Pedro was talking yesterday about his presumption that civfanatics members are in-athletic (read: fat computer dorks
tongue.gif
). What this thread is for, is to find out if this stereotype holds true.

I know Suntzu plays baseball, quite well from what I've heard, Cornmaster says he's good at tennis. I used to be quite the ballplayer in high school and college and I still play (though not as well as I'd like
wink.gif
) basketball quite often.

So is pedro right? Are civfanatics un-athletic for the most part or no?

Too old for much these days.

Besides, I have other outlets for that these days.

Sports I play:
(* = Organized Sports, ** = With Friends)
Tennis - * (For 2 years and continuing on but not organized.
frown.gif
)
Figure Skating - * (For 9 years)
Street Hockey - ** (I mostly play defence...but I can score
smile.gif
)
Basketball - ** (I'm a horrable shooter but I can really jump, and make the crazy layups. But I'm kind of a hot-cold player. One day I'm awesome and the next day I suck.)
Baseball - ** (I played a lot of baseball. I can switch hit. I usually play second, first, or center field. I also pitch or catch on occason. I have a pretty ok curveball.)
Soccer - ** (Not a whole lot of soccer. I usually play Goal.)
Football - ** (Not a lot of football. Just some touch or light tackel. Usually played quarterback or reciever.)
Track - *(sprints/long jump/javilin) (6th in long jump...and second last in most sprints. 14th in javilin. In the 4x100m relay our team came second (behind our other school team) And that was after I dropped the batton.
wink.gif
)
Cross-country running - * (2k/3k/5k) (I Came 11th in regionals (of 50) and bumped an "A" team member off of my school team. I got to go to provincals but I broke my toe and came 49th of 63.
frown.gif
)
Golf - I played golf every few weeks. I'm no Tiger Woods.
wink.gif

Anyone want to go???

I'm not trying to blow myself up.....but I play (And are pretty good at) most of these.

Sports I don't play:
ANYTHING in water. (Swimming/water polo/etc...)
Rugby
There are more....but I can't remember.

I play soccer and I'm damn good at it. ONe of the best in the house league.

I also play street hockey with my friends and I'm also damn good at it. I can't play real hockey because I'm not a very good skater.

I am completely useless and crap at virtually all sports, team or individual.
wink.gif

Exceptions are boxing, which I am quite alright at, and shooting (pistol and rifle) which is a little interest of mine.

In terms of mainly Aussie sports, I am a patient yet destructive batsman in cricket who cannot throw five yards. Bowling wise, I am a medium pacer who tries a few offies and the occasional leggie.

I'll have to dye my hair garish blond and wear lots of gold jewelry before I can perfect that last delivery
wink.gif

In footy, I am a slow, unskilled forward who hangs around trying to scrounge a kick, let alone a goal. Still, my career conversion was alright: 4 kicks for 2.1. I was a very hard player, and was the nominated team hit man. I guess you could compare me to Jacko ( Mark Jackson) except he could play a bit

Just posted this under Pedro's thread before I saw this, so once again:

I ran cross country and track in high school (20 years ago) and used to ride my bike to work until we moved recently. Not good access to the bike paths and too far to ride and still have time to make my second job in the afternoon, so had to give that up. Still manage to stay moderately fit and active, though, just not usually by doing a "sport" of some sort.
My daughter is moderately good at soccer, and becoming a very good sprinter. She starts middle school this coming year, so we'll see where she goes with it in a little more organized fashion.

I play pretty much any sport you can think of, though some very rarely. Basketball and Track/Field are my main two that I actually work at. I High Jump and Triple Jump primarily.

I used to play a lot of soccer, but my coach was a crackhead, and so were half of my teammtaes, so we sucked big and I gave it up after 8 years.

I've played some competitive Rugby at a junior level, though I don't quite have the weight necessary to excell (slender, I'm a jumper, right?) and I'm a very good roller-hockey player, though I've never played formal ice-hockey as I cannot master the art of stopping, an important skill

I come from Nebraska (Greatest State in the Union and best football), so football was shoved down my throat very early in life...

But I am 6'5 195 (I was in the same size in high school) and played either reciever or quarterback in school. As I had no desire to get crushed by angry defensive linemen, I decided to play reciever and get blasted by pissed off linebackers and safeties.
smile.gif
But I am a bit skinny for my height, and was not big enough for football (Plus you RUN the ball in Nebraska) IMO.

Basketball was for me frustrating because I was the tallest kid in my school and was forced to play Center. Well my weight and strength weren't up to par with bangin' down on the blocks with guys who outweighed me by forty pound. So I became a small forward with a nice 15 to 18 foot range. Since I have been in the Army, I have played alot and am a pretty fair basketball player.

Golf... I love it. But I refuse to buy clubs (I had some clubs given to me
smile.gif
) and I NEED them to get better as the ones I have are to FRIGGIN SHORT!!! At least that's my excuse!!!

Baseball: Probably my favorite sport to play, but it's hard to get eighteen guys together for a game
frown.gif
. I was a pitcher in high school (82 mph fastball, good split fingered fastball, decent control) but could only throw about 30 pitches before my arm would threaten to fall off
smile.gif
. So I played first base, and was our teams closer.

Boxing: Tried boxing with a friend who was really good at it... Big mistake. I looked at it as a sport, and he looked at it as an oppotunity to put me on my ass
smile.gif
. Anyway, he pretty much beat the crap outta me, and we remain friends, although he still offers for a rematch. (IMO boxing is the toughest sport, physically and mentally)
Hockey and Soccer... Never got into them at all. Soccer pisses me off 'cause people like to trip and such, and hockey is a bit too rough for my knees (Plus I can't skate!)

I am in pretty good shape (due to P.T. every morning
biggrin.gif
) but am feeling age more and more after a good long run or hard workout.

I'm so tired of being tired... Sure as night will follow day... Most things I worry about, never happen anyway...

My father was a seimprofessional golfer, so I learned to play golf early. I played a bit of tennis as well. I also played on my neighborhood softball team, and ran track in high school.

I'm not very athletic these days.

I ran Varsity Track and Cross Country in high school. I also played Junior Varsity Soccer my first two years, but I quit because most of the soccer players were mean crackheads and I couldn't stand it anymore.

I like to play touch football, and I have been playing volleyball quite a bit this summer. Other than volleyball I have not been very active since I graduated from high school in 2000. I took a weight training class in college each semester and that's about it.

soccer: i was supposed to play in the junior northern premier division but got a injury. later a got a offer from a division 4 club but didn´t accept it because the club was too far away. but i´m still playing with my friends.

ice hockey: like a almost every kid in this town i´ve been playing ice hockey. peter forsberg, markus näslund and the sedins are some of the nhl-players from örnsköldsvik. however, my team sucked. we used the smallest guys as defenders, a not so clever tactic.
smile.gif

cross country skiing: i did that for some years but gave it up because i didn´t have time for it.

I'm quite a killer at basketball, but haven't played any in high school because well i'm white
wink.gif

I've played Baseball(13 time all star)since i was 4years old. Played basketball since i was 5, one 5 league championships for my elementary school. Played football since i was 8years old. One 4 Pee-Wee football championships. Play 3 years of junior high, went undefeated and one league in 9th grade!
smile.gif

Played soccer for 3years winning 3 championships.
I have 45different trophies and 13 medals and 36 home run balls in my baseball career.
I'm looking for the state championship ring in baseball and football this year!
I've played street hockey for 4years from 12-15.
I have a 1.2-1.5second speed from Home to 2nd base.
You can't steal on me in a game
wink.gif
I top 83MPH.
Batting .467 with 5 homeruns right now in my traveling team.
We're playing the arkansas state tourny here in my town. We're in the 3rd round. We beat the first team 10-0. I went 3-4 2b, and 2 1b with 3RBIs and i popped out.
today we played and won 13-4 i went 3-5 with 3b,1b and a monster homerun that went 425 over left field fence.
If we win the tourny we go to dallas to play in the national tourny!
Peace!

Impressive resume, SunnyTzuTzu. I'm not one for baseball myself, but....

Yeah, on what? A teeball diamond? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0> Otherwise....damn. That's fast. EDIT: That is a typo. It's 90 feet between the bases, right? So 60 yards in 1.5s? Not likely. Your 100M time must be 3 seconds or something

Yeah i can do some minor switch hitting, i'm a right handed batter. I can hit alright left handed, but when i hit left handed its ground balls. I'm just gonna stick with the right
wink.gif

Yep, if you see me or any one else that can throw like me it really doesn't seem to be that fast but it is.

My hobby numero uno is pistol shooting! Then I like biking, walking, in-line skating, cross-country skiing, exercising, badminton, swimming and playing occasionally different ball games (basketball, rink-bandy, floorball).
