Hi all. I've just bought C3C through Steam and I can't play it at all. When I launch the game the resolution changes and then I get the message "Civ3 Complete has stopped working". Can anyone shed any light on my situation, please?

I'm running 32-bit Vista on an Intel Core 2 with 2GB and a Radeon 1800XT.

Ok, here I go. I have the XPS 410 with all the bells and whistles. I just got CIVIII Gold. I start the install and it tells me to install "disk2". No disk two in the box, except for the expansion " Play the World". I thought that was strange so I put in the PtW disk and it continues. It tells me to put in disk 1 and i put in CIVIII disk. It finishes and gives me the "Play " screen. Hit play and it tells me that I have the wrong disk in. I talked to a Geek Squad guy and he says since the game is for Windows XP and I am running Vista. Thats plausable , I guess.

HELP!!!!!!! I am jonesing to conquer the world!!!

Thanks

I bought Conquest expansion on line a few months ago. Also have Vanilla Civ III and Civ IV and they both work fine, so it's not some "hardware incompatibility" isssue. I was really looking forward to playing it, as I like Civ3 a bit more than Civ4 (I'm just getting used to the latter one now - really slowly).

The graphics are completely out of order. The general screen seems to have the info areas smeared (see first picture below). Advisors have elements out of place, information obstructed by other random pieces of graphics that do not belong (e.g. domestic info in cultural advisor, multiple heads of Elizabeth I at random locations, etc.). Basically useless. Actual attempts of making basic unit moves do work until advisors or popups need to be used. The game crashes altogether when foreign advisor screen is called.

See sample shots below - one is general screen another is cultural advisor. Other advisors have similar issues. I have poured over all these forums, found one similar post unanswered. Perhaps we could try again, please?

Settings: v1.22 downloaded. Computer: Compaq Presario SR1500NX, AMD Sempron 2GHz, memory expanded to 1.25GB (issues were prior and after expansion), graphics card expanded to nVidia GeForce 256MB (alike). Windows XP SP2.

For me looks like my version is incorrect, but I have pretty much no recourse - I redownloaded and reinstalled the game. Patch 1.22f does not work as after the installation it calls for CD to be put in (this is a downloaded version).

Any help? I would really appreciate it.

I'm sure that a lot of people have had this problem as well but when i try to do a precison strike i can only target my own cities! what is going on?

@ Raf1270: The only recourse in those situations is to uninstall/reinstall. Something got screwed up during installation. If that doesn't fix it, go back to the company you purchased the download from, and complain to their tech support. (You did pay for a legal download, right? If not, you're on your own, here.)

Well, I've done all of that. I redownloaded, uninstalled, reinstalled, complained both to the Atari and the store. No help - generic anwers from the store (you those "check your card settings etc.), Atari blew me off completely (sorry we don't support old games). That's it. Was hoping somebody here might be of help, but I'm resigned to the twenty bucks I'll never see again

my son and I just purchased two copies of Civ 3 Gold and after loading the games on to our computers we can not play it. This is due to the error we continue to receive.

'Wrong disc inserted.
Please insert the original "Civ3Gold" CD/DVD"

We have used both CD's and a tried a number of other "fixs" that have been posted on a number of forums all to no good, nothing has worked.

We are both running XP Pro, fully updated, I'm running an AMD 2200+, 1.49GHz, 512MB of Ram, NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 vid, with Sound Blaster sound. I can run NWN and his computer can NWN2. there is no hardware reason why we can't play the game. It is a software issue with the game.

So, we need some help.

Raven and son.

Hello there, my first post to this forum!

A few days back I stumbled on my good old Civ 3 plain, and decided that it was time to wreck my relationship and start playing Civ again. But, unfortunately, there`s a problem which is quite annoying, and after reading this whole thread trough and finding no solution, I`m hoping that some kind soul could help me.

The game installs quite fine, I patched it, no problem there, but when I try to run it, there`s no texts or anything in the main menu, just the background image. When I press enter, I get the screen where you create the world etc (still no texts), and also get the screen where you can choose your civ etc (surprise, no texts), and when I try to launch the game, it crashes on the start, giving me the "unable to allocate draw-buffer; terminating program".

I tried every single thing mentioned in this thread, updated my drivers, ran windows update, uninstalled/reinstalled, practiced black magic and so on, but nothing seems to help.

The weirdest thing is, the game ran okay a year back on this very same computer.

Specs:
Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz
768megs ram
SIS 650 integrated display adapter
Soundblaster Live
Acer AL1916 19" monitor
DirectX 9.0C

If anyone knows what is causing this problem, please tell me. Thanks

This is really weird now. The power went out of my apartment a while ago, and after it came back, I started my computer, and decided to try Civ one more time. Much to my surprise, it worked perfectly.

I really don`t understand why it decided to start working now, after all, I did reboot my computer many times before the power went out.

Oh well, as long as it works, I`m not asking questions.

Cheers,

Kaiz

If you bought your copy of CIVIII Gold at Best Buy it may be part of a " Bad Batch" that they received from 2K. I talked to a tech at 2K and he said that they had received lots of calls from folks with this same problem. He said to take it back and exchange it for a new one. I tried and they were out of them. I am picking up ALL of the CIV IV games on Friday!!

I WILL CONQUER THE WORLD!!!

i had the wrong disk problem and got this response from tech support:

Hello.

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, based on your analysis file and the information you have provided, you do have a faulty production disc. Please return this game to your point of purchase for a refund. Please do not exchange this game for another copy of this game from this store, as you will experience the same issue.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

SecuROM Support Team
SecuROM on the web: http://www.securom.com
or via e-mail: support@securom.com

luckily i already returned the disk to bestbuy before they responded.

2K games will replace any of their evil Best Buy (etc.?) Sid Meier's Civilization 3 Gold Edition games with the incorrigible SecuRom "wrong disc" problem free of charge if it's within 90 days of purchase, you have the game and receipt still intact, and you follow their RMA (return merchandise authorization) instructions.

Just call or e-mail them about it, and they'll send an RMA form. (If you call, you may get to talk to a very nice person in Ireland! :) )
