Civilization Request Thread

Hey, its probably unfair, as she is learning history.
Also, I doubt getting 10 production in the modern era would change much for my 200 production- yielding capital....

We shall never surrender, though....
Also, wanted to do this for a while now:

Peaky Blinders Civ!(Thomas Shelby)

UA: By Order of the Peaky Blinders
Defensive pacts grant you +1 :trade: trade route, +10% trade route :c5moves: range and allow you to freely move through territories protected* by your partners. International :trade: Trade routes generate +1 :c5gold: gold per each luxury you trade with that civ and +50% more :c5gold: gold during WLtKD.

UU: Small Heath Rifles
Replaces Great war infantry. Though weaker(40 :c5strength:), it may be freely upgraded from the rifleman, and it requires 25% less XP to level up. Gains +2 :c5strength: strength per each promotion, and has the unique "Peaky Blinder" promotion, which grants a bonus equal to your :c5happy: happiness when fighting near cities.

UB: Bar
Replaces Zoo, but costs 1 extra gold to maintain. increases WLtKD duration by 25% and starts one upon completion. +1 :c5happy: happiness per each :trade: trade route sent to the city(doubled during WLtKDs).

It also starts with the unique promotion "Worringen Remembered", which grants it the ability to generate 1 :c5culture: Culture for every 3 damage it takes from an enemy attack

I like the idea of this promotion - but is it something you know to be do-able, or an idea you'd like to be done? If it can be done, I'd like to use that idea in my mod.

Natan that civ just made you so much cooler in my eyes - literally one of my favourite shows right now. Its a good civ too, synergetic and interesting. I'd play it.

Also if studying history means you're cheating at civ design I better go close my thread.

The amount of people that should say that...
(You can only cheat in contests\ challenges against other people...)

Plus, scapegrace, would you mind sharing your sources?

"Oh no, we're not going to cheat. We're going to play by the rules. Exactly by the rules. And the thing about playing exactly by the rules is it's even better than cheating."
-- Unseen Academicals, Terry Pratchett.

I grant you that the Bokkenrijders are evocative, but I didn't really want to have a UU for a Civ be marauding bandits from outside the area co-opting the name of a medieval folk devil to cow the local peasants. Instead, I went with a pike-wielding foot-knight-style of unit (thanks Google Translate!) as shown in pictures of the Battle of Worringen, the key turning point of the War of the Limburg Succession... which Limburg lost. So yeah, a defensive unit seemed useful. As for whether or not it's doable, er... um... SAY WHAT IS THAT INTERESTING THING BEHIND YOU *flees*

As an aside, I actually knew about the Battle of Worringen from a completely different source - when I was designing my Brabant Civ, it was one of the key events, since that was how Jan the Victorious acquired both a truckload of land in the area and, er, his... name. =]

The Kaasboer, on the other hand (thanks again, Google Translate!), is to celebrate the most famous Limburger out there - Limburger! It yields culture and gold because it was a cash crop (for lack of a better term), and it gets more food every time you age up because, well, it's aged cheese. And I'm a sucker for puns. =]

All this comes from wandering around the internet. I... can't remember the sources off the top of my head, but they're real, I promise. The little yellow pixie who lives on my shoulder says they are, and he's NEVER wrong.

Especially when he tells me to BURN YOU ALL. =]

Heres something that I just recently thought of...
Cretan State
Prince George
UA: Magna Creta
Artifacts and Natural Wonders provide :c5gold: Gold and Experience to Military Units equivalent to thier base yields, Mountains adjacent to a City provide +5 :c5strength: City Health and Combat Strength.
UU: Chorofylaki (Great War Infantry)
Much more weaker (37 :c5strength:) yet cheaper (280 :c5production:) than the Unit it replaces, may traverse Mountainous Terrain and heals twice as fast if it is stationed adjacent to another Chorofylaki, has no Maitnence Cost.
UB: Bank Of Crete (Bank)
+2 :c5gold: Gold from every Market in the City, +1 :c5gold: Gold from all Specialists in the City, generates a small sum of :c5gold: Gold upon completing a Defensive Building.

Hey guys a quick question. What's the name of the pikes that France gave to Scotland to help fight England? And would it be appropriate to use them in my William Wallace civ (which I'll post soon-ish) as a replacement for pikemen? Or is something else like say Highland Nobles as a replacement for Longswordmen be more appropriate?

A better idea might be to use the redshanks. They were Scots mercenaries from the Western Isles, and given they were armed with bows and claymores it might be an idea to use them as, say, a Crossbowman replacement that can make melee attacks and - you know what? Screw it, I'll put it here. =]

---

UU: Redshanks (replaces Crossbowman)
Unlike the Crossbowman it replaces, the Redshanks can make melee attacks - and has a reason to do so. With a base :c5strength: Melee Combat Strength of 21 and a +50% :c5strength: Combat Bonus while making a Melee Attack, and it also starts with Amphibious promotion. While it's cheaper than the Crossbowman, it can only be bought with :c5gold: Gold. Upgrades to Gatling Gun. Requires Iron.

---

Whatcha think? =]

The 'only bought with gold thing' kills that unit for me. Crossbowmen are so important in the mid game that changing them so radically would just be frustrating. Also the +50% melee is overpowered as heck.

I was thinking of a better version of Spain under Hernan Cortes. Even though Cortes wasn't the leader of Spain he was an incredible leader and claimed a bunch of territory for Spain in Central America and is one of the most well known Spaniards in history. Here's what I was thinking:
Leader: Hernan Cortes
(UA): Increased benefits from city-states if allied and increased combat strength vs city-states. +1 culture for each gold and silver resource.
(UU): Conquistador (Tercio), I think using the Tercio unit for the conquistador makes more sense since horses weren't very common among the conquistadors and also a musketman replacement is more historically accurate. Ignores terrain cost, increased sight, can build presidios.
(UI): Presidio, (colonial spanish fort) +1 gold +1 culture and +50% defensive bonus for unit on tile. Double gold and culture and +1 faith upon adopting a religion.

It's definitely focused on the Spanish Empire during the colonial period but I think that was when Spain was most historically powerful. Anyone interested?

That's just some odd sort of mix between Thailand and Mongolia.
Also, guns were as common amongst the Conquistadores as Horses, I'd even dare say horses were actually more common there.

The civ feels a lot like Colonial Mexico than anything else, Presidios weren't built as much in other parts of the empire, well, down here in Chile they were, but that's still not wholly representative of the empire.

Why not just make it a New Spain civ?

Yo I have an Idea for a Devil Survivor 2 JP's civilization, with Yamato as a leader.
(UA) World of Merit - Generates Great People 25% faster (except Great Prophet, Great General and Great Admiral)
(UU) None
(UB) Tokyo Tower (replaces Broadcast Tower) - Aside from Broadcast Tower's Bonuses, also adds +50 HP and +5 power to the city it is built in.

Yeah I guess it mine as well be New Spain haha. You're sort of right about the conquistadors but that's also why I was thinking the Tercio represented them more because they are only partly made up of muskets, plus they count as a melee unit. Also I see what you mean about the unique ability, I'm just laying out a basic idea I'm up for critiquing.

I loved Devil Survivor 2 and Yamato's ending was the first one I got, but this design could use a bit more flavor.

I would change the UA to something reflecting his extreme meritocracy in orderly fashion in contrast to Ronaldo's socialist bot radical society.
Something like:

UA: World of Merit: Specialists provide double :c5greatperson: Great People points during :c5happy: We Love the King Days and do not produce :c5unhappy: unhappiness and require 50% :c5food: less food. When a :c5greatperson: Great Person is born you receive :c5culture: Culture from all Specialists of their type.

UU: Dragon Stream: Replaces the Guided Missile but costs 50% :c5production: production more to produce and is slightly stronger. While stationed in a city it increases its :c5strength: defense and :c5rangedstrength: ranged strength by 25%.

UB: Teleportation Device: Replaces the Airport. Aside from the Airport's usual bonuses this building will also reset a unit's :c5moves: movement points after being used for an airlift and also produces +2 :c5happy: Happiness

Just my ideas. Big SMT fan

Here my ideas for a awesome new civ
1. Parthia.
Leader: Arshack I
Gameplay Focus: War
UA: "Rising Empire" - Parthians can conquer sities without losing citizens and gain 2X more gold and Golden Age points whenever conquering a city. All Mountead units' maintenanse costs 25% less, and all Mounted units already had Sentry promotion.
UU: Parthian Horseman(Horseman) - had range attack(with 12 power) and +1 Movement, but costs 90 Production instead of 75.
UB: Nobles' Stable(Stable) - give +2 Gold and + 15 XP for all Mounted units.
