Civilization V Announced!

just discovered that Civ 5 is coming and all I have found out is that its due in the Fall of 2010..for all us non Yanks out here, whats that id date form..ie month etc?

For most products that would mean November but as far as software releases go I would expect Fall 2010 to mean sometime around April 2011:lol:

Thanks UncleThrill

Just the the knowledge that a beloved game is doing a comeback is great news. I've played all the versions from way back on my old amiga 500 to the new one to come, may have to update my system..from the looks of it, it will require a bit more oomph

Well, yeah, but I think it's more expensive to order from Amazon from abroad. I do it all the time, though, that's how I pre-ordered CV. (wow, now something that connects all this to the topic!)

i would not be satified unlied a world as big as giga map for test of time was map with this hexagon thing a ma jig.
it has to have 255 territory slots or more per world and up to 4 worlds. for a total of 1020 territories

the only 255 territories was a big draw back to test of time it had room for 1020 on two giga maps with minimum over lap. in civilization 3 and 4 i assume small worlds was a draw back and really big earth could not be on the game. dont for get to let the cheat mode be on the game the ability to modify your world as if its a giant sim city region is excelent.

I wont to see a screenshot of the civic page just one screenshot plz

I'm glad they finally once and for all killed the SoD :D . It was a little extreme but better than nothing (implementing combined assault might have been difficult).

I like how they're moving to simplify everything. I usually quit halfway through the game when the number of unit become silly.

I hope they did something to prevent the bronze age victory (collapsable empires?). I want to play a long game that isn't just a procession towards the inevitable.

The saga of Civilization!

Civ1 :spear:
Civ2 :egypt:
Civ3 :queen:
Civ4 :sniper:
Civ5

Seems premature to be honest.

They seem to have taken all the good ideas from the Civ IV mods and re-packaged it into another civilization game. Now part of me is wondering what, if anything, this game will bring to the table. Yeah.. the graphics are amazing, sure. I just hope they fix the problems in Civ IV like the music.. and the small technical details that would you feel like you actually have a civilization in your hands.

I'll hold on until I see the reviews and modded it can be.

It's true that there was something... Odd with the music. It seems I theoretically enjoy all of this music, I've even listened to it by itself while doing other things, but... A lot of it is almost too hectic or busy for a game that requires my attention. The Ancient Age through medieval age were fine with the choir and all. But past that, the awesome Beethoven symphonies from classical to romantic music to the modern hectic minimalism of the modern era, that was almost too much. I would turn it off and feel a big relaxing feeling in my brain.

Too bad you had to tweak your game files in order to turn off the music but STILL hear the leaders' musics in diplomacy... Little options that would show you put a lot of thought into the options menu.

Around February I became extremely turned off games and instead switched to movies and anime to burn time. Now I know why and I am absolutely ecstatic.

HEX TILES!

Are you guys kidding me? I thought music was one of the best improvements for civ 4! I love john adams' modern soundtrack, love hearing good music - it was great for me :D

I hated modern era music so much yak... Whenever I got to modern era, I switched to custom soundtrack...

Anyone who knows who John Adams is, and is a fan of his music, should be well aware that they are a double minority.

Like I said, I actually like the music, I just can't stand it in the context of the game. I am easily distracted by noise. It's hell for me to work with people being loud around me in the office, I get the same with hectic music for renaissance-through-modern eras of Civ 4.

There is nothing more concentrating than listening to "Tiesto" or "Metallica" very loud while working for me :) ...

I like the music UP TO the Modern Era. I am not a fan of today's atonal classical music. After about 1900, the only good music is anything but classical. I have been trying to change the soundtrack to my iTunes library for years, but haven't figured out how... [offtopic] I really hope they keep the soundtrack up to the Modern Era and then change the Modern and Future Era soundtracks and make them distinct.

To me it is. It appears to either be happy or sad, (mostly sad) but it doesn't have a resolving note, and it is non-metric. It has no pulse, it has no tonic-dominant relationship, etc. This is the reason that IB Music HL doesn't go into too much depth with modern classical music. It pretty much stops around 1900 and then talks about jazz, rock, funk, etc. I'd gladly replace the Modern/Future Era music in CIV with the genre's I stated previously in CV so that I don't feel like turning off the music once I get into those Eras. (Then again, it may end up like the CIII Modern Age/Future Age music, which has its highlights...)

Civ4 modern era music makes my frontal lobe suffer. I'm starting to feel constant urge to smash the screen if I don't turn it off! :)
