Civilization V: The Mobile Game!

I imagine the mobile game being somewhat like that Civ3 mobile game.

I smell a flamer rebirth.

There is already a Civilization 3 for mobile phones. And actually as it is now, it's for free. Can be found in the web.
I have been playing it for a while and it's funny. It's closer to Civ 1 than 3, and also very limited. Yet, I enjoy it.
Only AW available and max 5 civs. Two maps are offered (small and large)

It would be nice to have a full Civ 1 game for mobile (maybe Civ 5 will be the one?)

Sounds like it will be a deep and satisfying game like Civilization 5. ;)

Civilization 5: The phone-y Civ. Lol

IKNORITE!

Anyway, it's only a matter of time before the console version is announced. Baby steps.

It's only a matter of time before *a* console Civ comes out. It has already happened a handful of times!

But, you know, Civ5 being released on consoles would be teh end 0f teh w0rld! :crazyeye:

In reality they are going to cook up a mobile phone game and slap a Civ5 logo on it. I also don't imagine that an unchanged Civ5 will be put on any current generation system. I am specifically denying the implication that the game was secretly designed for consoles from the beginning. It's just a flawed PC game, nothing more.

Heh, I had the SNES version. Good times.

Fact is, I got a DS specifically for Civ Rev. It's fun, good way to pass the time while a train is blocking the road or I'm stuck in line at the DMV. Is it a "real" Civ? Heck no. But I don't expect it to be. It's Civ lite, and there's a time and a place where that's perfectly fine. Civ5 mobile sounds like fun.

I see similar flamewars with SW:TOR. People want it to be SW:Galaxies 2, when in reality it's going to be WoW in space. That doesn't mean it'll be bad, just not the sandbox game people are hoping for.

You can't flame hotdogs for not being cheeseburgers.

I'm sure it'll be dumbed down or whatever, possibly barely resembling Civ, but ya know what, I spend an hour and a half on trains every work day and I would love to have some more good games on my android phone (there are Civ analogues for iphone but I haven't seen any good ones for android yet) to waste the time with. There's only so much time I can spend watching Whose Line Is It Anyway clips on youtube. Though I'll confess that if there is I haven't hit it yet.

Pft, count your blessings. The public transit in my city is horrible and we all have to drive. I'd love to spend my hour long commute riding a train.

It'll be CiV in strategic mode with still-shots of leaders (probably based upon their menu icons). Frankly that doesn't sound bad to me for a mobile game.

Who knows? It could be good....imagine a classic civ (1, 2, or 3) on your phone. :)

My main concern would be the UI. With the limited real-estate and touch/gesture based input, I'd be very impressed if they managed to make a decent UI for anything close to a full depth Civilization game.

Civ1 was 640x480, 265 colors, and I'm pretty sure could be played without a mouse. It'll be fine.

I will get it if they make it for android tablets. Then I will totally wasting my worktime :)

Well, fortunately the "strategic" aspect of this version can't be reduced any further without getting legal problems from the farmville developers

And if they manage to port it for iOS and Co. without any loss I would buy it! A real civ for handhelds would be great, unlike these "jelly bear - games" (Civ Rev and this *censored* real-time-facebook thingy)

Settlers of Catan (Siedler von Catan, dunno the exact translation) also works pretty fine as app, so why not a civ ... :goodjob:

iOS must be a target market, right? I mean, that's the largest mobile market. I've got to say, I'd be pretty interested to try it out, but I hope it would look a little better than strategic mode. I don't care about the fancy graphics, but I want the game screen to be clearer.

No, Android phones out-grew iOS in market share quite a while ago. Although iOS still has the biggest app store, in terms of numbers of apps. I'd guess the devs would target both markets at the same time. Might launch on iOS first, but I'm fairly sure Gameloft is a UK company and supposedly Android is more popular than iOS in the UK, so maybe not. It'll undoubtedly end up on both platforms though.

Yes, by using a keyboard, which a cellphone lacks.
Presumably it will be released for smartphones, which all have keyboards, albeit mostly on-screen touch ones, but some have slide-out physical keyboards.

If they can work it out so there is some kind of overlay with an on-screen keyboard, or just controls that pop-up contextually, it would probably work on most modern smartphones.

I'm not sure how much like Civ it would actually be though, but it might be good. 4" screens are not the best for this kind of game though.

As a turn-based game, some clever interface decisions could allow pretty much the same gameplay. I would be more concerned with being able to run an entire civ-esque game on a mobile device (though, as noted, our mobile phones today are significantly more powerful than PCs 15 years ago, and frankly there's nothing about Civ 5 gameplay except the AI that would have been difficult on a PC 15 years ago).

I have no problem with Civ on my Phone. I welcome it.
But really, I can't run Civ5 on my laptop at this time. Even in Strategic view only it lags.
HOW IN THE WORLD are they going to make it run on my 1ghz phone?
CivRev, sure. Civ1, 2, or 3, maybe. But It's won't be Civ5.
Don't call it Civ5 and give us CiVille. (See what I did there? Civilization+V+FarmVille)

gameloft.......

the only time they update their games is to release dlc....still their games are decent compared to most of the apps on iOS (i dunno about other platforms)

Modern smart phones should have roughly 10 times the performance required to make good-looking and polished 4x games. Roguelikes show that they can handle considerably more complex controls if the designers know what they are doing.

Very little in gaming ever sucked because of technological limitations.
