Civilization

Read the whole story across two evenings. I must play Civ now...

Writing it does that to me, too. As I'm describing one turn, I get the itch to load up the game and go further. Making myself post every turn, though, slows me down and keeps me from blowing a whole night doing the old "one more turn" routine.

looks like you just found *puts on shades* a new world

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!:cooool:

How I love this story, the fact that it has come back... Love it.

good update, i espically like the alpha centauri pic

Yeah, I didn't want to totally abandon the interludes in this second half of the story. Of course, I just snatch the SMAC screencaps off the web since my copy somehow blocks my screenshot function while it runs. Originally I'd intended to kind of have a whole game within a game thing going on, but oh well...

Anyway, back to the grind!

O.k , found this thread a day ago. I usually don't keep up with "lets play"'s , or , AAR's that long ,but , the use of creative writing to explain inelegant aspects of Civ 5 mechanics in an immersed and fluid manner. I am sure the senators will hem and haw about the archeologists destroying tile improvements.
The hot seat was a surprise, i thought you just wrote a city name list into the Attila file at first , so , it felt like a big twist , one that still leaves me guessing on the story. I haven't done a hotseat before , so , i don't know if a hotseat could be abandoned. What is that alternate Adesmeftos going to do? Maybe settle a couple of new cities in the west ,defend the boarders , but basically not bother anybody? Which is all he really could do if : he keeps his word to not stir up trouble. (paraphrasing) Perhaps collusion to make that perfect , peaceful world they need to save the universe with. After all : Greece took two cities from Carthage , and , looked like choir boys in the process. The alternate Adesmeftos could cite that example to : take on the "dirty work" of world policing that he feels Katarina couldn't stomach. I kind of wonder how this same story would have played out if : it was Austria , instead of Greece on this same CS heavy map. Maybe a bit more R-rated

As for the actual game itself , i am kind of surprised you still have flawless diplo w/ Dido. How is she not coveting? I know the diplo hit for having Cartha ,and , Hippo are somewhat laundered through the hotseat , but still, they usually covet if : you have anything they "want" without much regard to the legitimacy of your acquirement , hence the appropriate term "covet".
This is probably a gap in my Civ 5 knowledge more than anything.

this looks awesome. can't wait for the future era

Yes, many things have surprised me about the second half of the game. Carthage declaring war on the Huns and then never doing anything about it surprised me. Then the Aztecs turning around and surrendering three turns into the war kind of shocked me, too. I decided to let Katarina win the day and do the honorable thing (even though I could've wailed on the Aztecs and used liberating Dutch cities to offset the warmonger penalty). I kept Carthaginian territory before because the citadels would've left a really, really funky border and I just couldn't stand it.

As to what's ahead, I do have some plans, but we'll see how well I can play as the Huns. I will say that some of what you said is...somewhat prescient.

Something i caught , that , might have been slipped between the lines : "What happened to the geese?"
Seems odd that you mentioned that. More so what is not mentioned. All these graphic descriptions of the jungle combat , but ,.....no snakebites, or tropical diseases???
No mention of cats ,or , dogs, aside from horses , no one seems to have pets of any kind.

Senility seems fairly common in the aged , almost .....expected. Katarina cursing her luck that the president hadn't turned senile ,yet????. (thinking back to the old general)

Also: The barbs are now called "rebels". When the existence of barbs first was explained ,it was made to sound like : they were zombie like creatures. A gruesome side effect in the hurried and forced creation of new humanities. Are people from the city states and civs venturing out , and , taking on the ways of the barbs of old, Museum Barbarians?

Yeah, the idea I've had is that most Earth fauna gets dropped off along with Homo sapiens at the beginning, but who knows what survives. I can't say I left out pets and snakes intentionally, though. Maybe it just says something about my psyche...Hmm, I did remember millipedes, though. Gosh, that does say something, doesn't it.

I also meant to invoke that explanation at some point to account for the total lack of rice and corn in Civ 5, but I haven't gotten around to it.
