Civs lacking flavor

Kael, any hints about which 4 civs are getting special treatment in Shadow? I'm assuming Malakim, Svartalfar, and Sidar. Who is the 4th?

And the more you make each civ step into character and play differently from any other civs available - the higher the replayability of the mod as a whole will be.

That's my opinion exactly. I would like for every Civ to be a different experience. I'm not demanding radically different mechanics for every civ (like Fallow and Sprawling) but I would like to see every civ differentiated by more than a couple unique units and buildings.

I know this is not supposed to turn into a "my most favorite and least favorite civ" thread, but I really have to take exception to this. The Bannor are one of my favorites to play. I like the "crusader" motifs and enjoy smashing other civs that have cities with evil religions.

I acknowledged the interesting "motif", both in the sense of story and graphics. However, other than a unique civic, there isn't really anything unique about them.

I would also like to note that the "crusader motif" has some overlap with The Order. I could easily see the Malakim falling into the exact same role, albeit without the "Crusade" civic.

The Hippus are a great example. We will probably delve deeper into their mercenary aspects, but by and large they are done as they are. Their mechanics aren't flashy, but they are effective. Some civs will follow that design.

That's exactly what I had in mind. At the moment, the only real "mercenary" aspect of the civ is Magnadine, who is too-little too-late; most of the living barbarians are gone by the endgame (and thus unavailable for joining), and Mercenaries are a Tier 2.5 unit at a point when you have at least one kind of Tier 4 unit.

The Balseraphs.

Calabim, I'd think. They were cursed by Lugus, so I'm assuming that makes them a part of shadow.

EDIT: Eek, I was way off. I do like playing Balseraphs though.

How will the Balseraphs be changed? They already seem like they have enough unusual mechanics.

They have some cool UU's but no real design. "Shadow" should include a more dynamic culture system that we will need for the wilderness regions. We may have the Balseraphs take advantage of it too. I also love the functionality of the BtS improvements (building improvements outside of your borders, improvements that grant happiness bonuses, etc) for some Balseraphs mechanics.

Yeah I feel that they are lacking some Cultural Ooomph... I hope they can be a bigger cultural threat in the future.

Well, the recent change to Balseraph just weakend their cultural "oomph". With Acrobats coming from the Hunting Lodge, and Freak Show just being an *extra* building instead of replacing the Hunting Lodge, you now have an extra building that you need to make if you want those Recon units - a building that produces no culture. In addition, it's not as easy to just go for Carnivals as early as possible in every city (since they provided culture, happiness, *and* a good unit).

I guess I can understand that maybe Carnivals were too strong for Balseraphs, but it makes sense that every city of theirs should have one, and I never thought they were all that overpowered as a civ...

With the end of Shadow comes Ice. The Illians get the spotlight then.

Sooo...the Illians are complete then?

Did the Illians get any new graphics or units or specials in the Age Of Ice mod? and if they did will we get to see them when FfH2 hits Shadow?

I know AoI has a lot of wilderness, do you intend to implement that for regular FfH in shadow? If so, that would be pretty awesome, because I've always found the most fun part of the game to be the part before the map fills up with advanced civs.

The plan is to create wilderness areas, yes.
