Clockpunk mini alt history development thread

If graphics exist then we can. If they don't then we can't.

Sadly this has been the main limitation of our mod. We (as in the C2C team) can practically code anything we want, but we are a the mercy of the non-C2C graphic people. However some have been nice and added some requests. I have also managed to re-texture some models like the Police Car, Police Mech, War Wagon and Siege Wagon.

oh so that explains why my ideas are ignored :(

i can't really help you with ideas but with graphics(something i have no idea about)

well, maybe one day someone who knows these things will help you out (i hope, amen ;))

If we could use the graphics of civ3 we could have so much stuff. 2D animated graphics are MUCH easier to make than 3D models. Some days I wish Civ4 had Civ3's isometric 2D graphics since it would be way easier to add graphics stuff.

I HATED the old Civ III isometric gfx, it drove me nuts! That said, it would be nice if someone on the team could make unit graphics.

here are some clockpunk building ideas:

clockpunk computing device(couldn't think of a better name )
clockpunk car maker
clockpunk robot maker
automated orchestra(being played by robots)
clockpunk master computer
clockpunk weapons manufactory
waterclock maker(source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_clock)
candleclockmaker(source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candle_clock)
automated trademill crane
clockpunk balloon\zepplin maker
clockpunk typing machine
automated factory(or self producing factory)
clockpunk foundry
clockpunk microwave factory (not sure but it would be cool:lol:)
clockpunk aquaduct
castle clock(source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_clock)
elephant clock(source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_clock)

well thats it!! hope u all like it;)

according to hydro's request, i uploaded my self made building and added a button too!!!!;) the only problem with it is that it is a bit pixelated , but aside from that i think it's a good start for me to get into modding :)

Just to note... there's some discussion on the low res problem some methods get when converting into dds files that you may wish to note in the main modding assistance region on the site. Easier to find it if you try some keyword sight searches though. If I run across it again, I'll send you a link. But I figured it might be helpful for you to know its out there anyhow.

*bump*

I wanted to remind everyone that we
can have more ongoing discussion on these ideas when you think of them.
It may help create some solutions and eventual implementation over time.
I hope that players and modders feel comfortable in sharing their opinions here.

To spur some more ongoing conversation I remember mentioning this in several other threads here at different times:

The Antikythera Mechanism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
The Antikythera mechanism is an ancient analog computer designed to calculate astronomical positions.
which basically is an ancient computer that was actually found in the classical era.
It was recovered in 1900–1901 from the Antikythera wreck in Greece, but its significance and complexity were not understood until a century later. Jacques Cousteau visited the wreck in 1978 but, although he found new dating evidence, he did not find any additional remains of the Antikythera mechanism.
The construction has been dated to the early 1st century BC. Technological artifacts approaching its complexity and workmanship did not appear again until the 14th century AD, when mechanical astronomical clocks began to be built in Western Europe.
The Antikythera mechanism is displayed at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, accompanied by a reconstruction made and donated to the museum by Derek de Solla Price. Other reconstructions are on display at the American Computer Museum in Bozeman, Montana, the Children's Museum of Manhattan in New York, in Kassel, Germany, and at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris.
I think this is still notable an impressive.
What if computers were developed more extensively back then?
I for one would love to play that as an alternate clockpunk era. It could be the tech that opens it up as an optional(selectable) alternative era.
What do y'all think? :)

The Antikythera Mechanism

Can't argue with that - even though it's "too" early for Clockpunk as it is currently implemented. It's certainly an excellent suggestion for a (World) Wonder.

Maybe part of an AstrologyPunk or OraclePunk for the classic age? Bronzepunk?

In GURPS, you have Stonepunk> Bronzepunk > Ironpunk > Middlepunk before clockpunk.
I think if we take a -punk by era, bronzepunk can be for classical and stonepunk for ancien (clock for Renaissance, Steam industrial, cyber modern and Megafauna prehistoric)

And, about clockpunk... am i the only one having problem with Da Vinci tank? He's really TOO powerful
