cMM2 - STRANDED (easy level, tough map)

The neat thing about Banana island in my game was: One of my first Curraghs managed to spot one tile of the island before sinking; never reached that again, I even could see AI borders there later. That, and a Carthaginian Galley sailing by in an interturn without contacting me gave a real Robinson Crusoe feeling...they know there is land, but don't consider it worth to contact me

I'd sit tight! We can now estimate the distance to the other cont qutie well - the huge distance to the banana isle is a surprise, but it means we are truly isolated. We can build all ancient buildings, as we can't irrigate cities will not go so large that we need cathedrals , desperately, and we will have money to even BUY banks and Unis @ contact.

the later the better!

Agree completely. Maybe settle the NW corner of Banana Island to grab those 2 whales, and then sit tight. We might get found sooner, but that's such a a great spot it's hard to resist.

My suggestion to you guys is, once the workers are done and all your doing is infrastructure, keep making galleys... don't stop. Once contact is made it will pay off entirely (you'll be surprised on the AI's condition :) ... whether it's good or bad I can not say...)

Just a quick question....perhaps I'm a noob, but I don't understand the logic behind deliberately holding off in meeting other civs under the idea that we'll get more value out of the Great Library that way.

I mean, we're going to get the same amount of techs out of G/L (up to and including Education,) no matter when we meet people, right? So why not press the issue and try to meet others, just so we can have a better appreciation of the global strategic picture?

If the other civs are already up to or past Education, we'll get up to Education then lose the G/L. If they aren't up to Education, we'll continue to get use out of the G/L, researching up the "hard science" tech tree in Middle Ages until...someone else discovers Education, trades it, and it goes to us. Right?

(Assuming we GET the Great Library, naturally.)

Actually, we get all techs that at least two civs know, and the GL expires *after* it does the job. Theoretically, we could learn Semiconductors that way :)

Not entirely correct:
For unknown reasons, you cannot get the following techs in c3c (but all in ptw):
Music Theory, Amphibious Warfare. And you completely random don't get some optional tech from eras you don't get entirely: You'll always get Mon/Rep, but unless you make it into the IA, you don't get all the MA optional ones (FA,Nav,Eco)
Note you get all optional techs that don't come last in a branch (you will get PP/Demo). Same logic applies for Ironclads and Advanced Flight.

This may be important, if you are prebuilding Shakespeare's, Bach's or Smith's.

update: we have Great Lib, game's pretty much in the bag now.

Well that was an easy game ;) What should we do next?

PS. So which direction are you going to go to try and NOT meet anyone carlos??

game's pretty much in the bag now

Well, maybe Emperor made the huge difference here, but I wouldn't be so sure.
I mean, I 'only' won by inferior UN victory, but it was one of two close UN victories I ever had...I wasn't the first to Fission and to start the UN...surely I had a prebuild, but the CIA doesn't hold that much shields.

Sorry, work's a real hassle, here the save, we have Great Lib. Nothing much else to report.....

I don't even know how many turns I played because my Window Exploere keeps dying, taking all open programs but C3C and my mail prgram along. I just lost 3 hours of work because Word can't read its own autosaves:mad:

So, sabo is next, then danz - he mentions himself in the third person?

Ok, I'm pretty busy tonight and tomorrow, I won't be able to give it much time till day after tomorrow, hopefully I"ll post my save by then.

carlos: it sounds like one of those "reinstall windows things"

Time to port Civ to Linux. Enough of this Windows nonsense. It's such a waste of time.

Another (noob?) question....I see we're three turns away from building the FP. Should we actually build the FP now? It's always been my playing style when stuck in an island situation to hold off on the FP until a foothold has been established on another continent, then build the FP there.

In the latest C3C patch it almost doesn't matter where you build it. It's more important to have it sooner rather than have it in the perfect spot.

Not exactly. Make that "...perfect distance."
Near perfect city spot is mandatory, with the FP city the only other city with zero corruption (after Court+PS).
