CNN wake up!

All the fighting in Israel is because the arabs didn't want someone else in the middle east. That's why they attacked Israel in 48, 56, 67, 73, 82 and 91. Now were just waiting to see what war will we have this decade (terror doesn't count - we always had terror)

Why all the fighting over Israel? Because too many DAMN religions have their start in that small strip of land? What if we evacuate Israel and blew it off the face of the earth. What would all those countries fight over then?

I think there was a somewhat less radical solution proposd at one time - set up Jerusalem almost as a "Vatican City"-type government, with self-sovereignty, run by a multi-religious council.

That would only solve part of the problem.

G-Man - - My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. We need to remember that the whole creation of Isreal was part of the post-colonial pull-out by European nations. Many of the nations 'created' when the large colonies were set up to be self-sufficient have had magor border problems. The Israel situation is unique in many ways, but a Palestinian state is probably a reasonable solution.

The problem is who would control that state, and how would the borders w/ Israel be defended. A fully independent Palestine could allow Iraq to set up military bases, for example, causeing lots of problems.

As for this most recent attack - it does seem like a very clear case of a terrorist-initiated attack, and not easy to characterize as a 'self-defense' action.

IMHO - Arafta has lost it. He has no power, and negotiating with him makes no sense.

Peace -

The problem is that if we won't negotiate with Arafat who will we negotiate with? Arafat had enough power to start the intifada (It's been proven that he's the one that started it, using Sharon's visit to the west wall as an excuse) so he better have enough power to stop it.
And Mikoyan, when was the last time that Israel attacked "random palestinian villages"? Please give a proof to what you say

Mikoyan doesn't mean what he said Gman, he's just trying to piss people off. No opinion there, just idiocy.

I thought the fighting over Israel went farther back? Way farther...

I see that our "unbiased" media giants reported today that the "evil" Isrealis killed several Palestinian policemen and bulldozed some farmland.

Oh yeah, I think they may have said that it was because some Hamas guys shot up unarmed civilians including children, killing a couple in thier home. But I'm sure that wasn't important because it was on the back page.

Chapter 2:

How the US sold out Israel to get Arab support for the war on "terrorism"

Yeah, I'm a pessimist. I hate to say it, especially since people like G-man and Eli live over there, but I think there will eventually be a new war. (And I mean a full scale one, not the guerrilla one occuring now.)

Ow, well, that's like the gulf war - at first you didn't need us, but when Saddam started using his Al Hussein missiles the US was afraid that we'll retaliate and destroy your precious coalition... So in return to not retaliating you guys had to fund half the development costs of the "hetz" (arrow). And that's why today we're the only country with a reliable anti-missiles system.

Just wanted to inform you of another attack in Afula, a city very close to were I live. Two people were killed and 10 injured. The terrorist was dressed up as an Israeli soldier and used an M-16 to shoot in the middle of the central bus station in the city. He was able to shoot almost 100 bullets before real soldiers that were near by shot him dead.
Also, and more importantly, Israeli security officials suspect that the aircraft that crashed into the black sea crashed because of a terrorist attack. A pilot in a near by plane said the aircraft exploded in the air.CNN's report

Not M16, AK47.

The link is just for Eli, to show him the attacker used an M-16 and not an AK47 - no english translation I'm afraid. Anyway, another Israeli woman died after being injured in the attack. And about the plane - it was probably hit by an surface-to-air missile, maybe accidently shot by the Ukraines during a military exercise. But the big question now is what was the plane doing there in the first place? It wasn't in it's route...
