CO-3: Immortal Emperors

We've got the marble so we might just as well do a run for the GL. I agree on joining the hindu community.

Hi team!

I am back... I can play tomorrow if it's my turn (really no idea of the roster... Colony?).

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

Sorry, I've been busy and haven't been able to really check on this. As Ralph doesn't seem to be around do you want to take this turnset and swap with him?

Which would make the roster look something like this:

Colony
Sweetacshon (just played)
RRRaskolnikov
Stuge
Ralph_Jackson

And then back to the original order after this round.

Apolgies had completely failed to realise I was up  if Raskolnikov takes it I can play over the weekend!

Apologies again

ralph

Hi,

sorry I was really busy in RL too... playing now!

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

edit: report to come... played 12 turns

As I said I played 12 turns because a prophet is born in Moscow in 410 BC... so that was a good stoping point.

We should discuss of the specialisation of our cities... My vote is Moscow as GP farm and the rest cottaged (run scientists at times)... so we need a prod city as the HE will soon been unlocked with Lit.

IHT: put science to 0% (-2 gpt ) and whip the two libraries...
Hire one scientist in Moscow.

T135: battle of Saint Petersburg:

initial situation:

After losing half our army (:goodjob:)...

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0303.jpg

But our best axes (CR3) are all alive! Our GG gain a promotion and I gave him leadership (@team: on the path to forest3??? )... we also gained some gold and an additionnal worker!
Aksum and Gondar start on granaries.
St Pet: Library
Up the slider to 100%

T136: Switch to Hindu (one turn late, sorry :()
T137: MM cities (read nothing happened )
T138: Ask nicely fishing (Moscow has nets) to Darius and he agrees... cool

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0304.jpg

T139: MM cities
T140: MM cities
T141: Gondar starts a chariot for exploration
T142: MM cities
T143: Aesthetic is in and I start the litterature path (Myst-> Poly-> Lit)
I trade with darius for Alpha (Gandhi has already Aesthetics, and he doesn't want to trade any of the religious techs... I suspect he is also in the race to the GL)
T144: MM cities
T145: Darius grabs Assyrian before us... :(

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0305.jpg

T146: Aksum starts on a settler to block Darius... and a prophet is born in Moscow... I stop.

MM notes: first sorry for the sign spam near Moscow but I feel precise prechopping is our only chance for the GL.
So 4 forests are prechopped to one turn and two are being prechopped (3 turns to go).
Gondar will grow in 3 turns as the slavery unhappiness wear off...
Spy points are allocated to Darius as Gandhi doesn't seem to be on the same landmass and Darius already stole us Myst...
Also we should remember to beg for Masonry before finnishing Literature...

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

Ok to try and be prompt this time... GOT IT!!

So, what should we use him for? All he'll bulb ATM is Meditation, which would be a bit of a waste, so settling him somewhere may be a better option. IIRC we'd need Meditation and Priesthood as well as Polytheism to get him to bulb Theology.

We should discuss of the specialisation of our cities... My vote is Moscow as GP farm and the rest cottaged (run scientists at times)... so we need a prod city as the HE will soon been unlocked with Lit.
I'd agree with that. Gondar has 4 hills and the copper, and later on is on a river so should still be a good site later on. Apart from that and Aksum I can't see many of the other cities having as good production for a while.

All good ideas, Literature will take a while to research unless we can get some scientists up quickly, so building the actual wonder quickly will be very important, especially as Gandhi may already be building it. After Literature we really need some way to get some more happiness, otherwise we'll never get out of the current situation. We have sugar and silk with Calendar, but that takes Sailing and Maths, whereas Monarchy only takes Priesthood once Polytheism's done.

Hi,

agreed with settling the prophet... Theology seems like a gambit (and we are already going for the GL so...) and settled this early he is as good as a gold mine (nearly) :goodjob:.
I think we must settle south of Aksum to block room for one or two more cities... here are some nice prod sites I think (will perhaps try a dotmap later but I trust Ralph judgement if he plays before that).

And yeah, we really need some source of happiness for our people.

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

Well a quiet hunkering down set to see if we would get The Great Library...

IHT Configure cities other than the capital to maximize commerce/ research as we are in a race. Left the capital configured to get our settler out at max Speed as that is also a priority.
We get the Great Prophet and I decide after a little umming and ahhing to settle him in Moscow as his hammer boost will not go amiss in the race.

settlegp.jpg

Early on it looks like we are going to lose the race to our Southern blocking site as Darius is on our way and our settler is far from completed.

]

But the Barb axe wounds the immortal enough for the AI not to want to risk it and he settles in a truly poor location AFAICT.

Now we have been pushing through Literature and having failed to beg Masonry from both Gandhi and Darius to decide to take this one sided trade to get us to TGL faster..

dariusmasonry.jpg

Now I have been joining in with Sign Spam Anonymous and its getting out of hand!!!

signspam.jpg

However when we have Literature it does let us do this, must confess this is some pretty serious synchronized chopping and if we lose the race after this I will be gutted!!

masschop.jpg

Now with Literature done we pick up Priesthood / Org religion in a trade from Darius and set off down the Monarchy line to manage our happiness (about 7 turns left) whilst finally finishing off..

tglmoscow.jpg

And of course we have our blocker up and running...

Notes
Heroic Epic and National Epic started
Some cities are either teetering on the brink or have unhappiness but when Monarchy come sin this can be solved so I didn’t sweat it.
Haven’t taken Org religion swap yet.

You will see the odd wonder (S of Z and Parthenon) with a few hammers as these were just hammer dumps which will hopefully turn to cash at some point..

Veeery nice. :hatsoff:

I'll check out the save and post some thoughts tomorrow.

Good round Ralph!

Nice landing of the Glib... :goodjob: Your blocking city is great: it lets room for interesting cities 3 east 2 north of Aksum and 4 east 2 south of Aksum... But i would rather have the HE in Lalibela than Gondar because Gondar can more easily run cottages and Lalibela has a lot of forests to actually build the wonder (+ 3 hills, fresh water and room for workshop later).

After Monarchy, i think we should go to COL and bulb (if scientist ) philo... because we really need that to fil the tech hole compared to Darius/Gandhi... :crazyeye:

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

I agree with RRRaskolnikov on making Lalibela the HE city and on going for CoL after monarchy. I'll have Gondar build research, as it takes a turn off of monarchy.

Temples will be whipped where appropriate. I'll also redistribute some units from the Novgorod garrison. We'll be able to start growing those cities now. :goodjob:

Nice to see all that pre-chopping MM paid off. If we pop a spy instead of a scientist do we go for some tech stealing off Darius? We could really do with the techs ATM. Also, wouldn't we have to try and trade Monarchy with Gandhi for Maths before being able to bulb Philosophy?

Damn, just lost what I'd previously typed. :gripe: :badcomp: To summarise:

I'm away and need skipping after colony.

Nice play with the the GL!! CoL and perhaps a philo bulb is fine ith me.

Longer term, race (=beeline) for lib, get our own optics, or beat on Gandhi or Darius?

We're now a monarchy, with an organized religion to boot. So build some missionaries and spread the good word to Aksum, Moscow and Gondar.

The best deal I could get out of Gandhi was monarchy for IW. Now we can replace those icky rainforests with cottages. Iron was discovered in Aksum's BFC.

CoL will take seven turns. We should then be able to trade for meditation and maths and bulb philo with the GS that's hanging out in Moscow. Darius is going for feudalism.

I explored the east coast and marked some city locations. They aren't of high priority right now, but it might be a good idea to build some placeholder settlers in case Darius decides to encroach into our back yard.

And keep those garrisons growing, lest the plebs get uppity.

Hi team :hatsoff:,

I didn't had a chance to look at the save for the moment, will try to do it before Colony plays...

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

OK, comments:
everything seems OK...

We can trade our copper against Darius's silk (more happiness and we have iron anyways).
BEWARE of Darius, he has an immortal fortyfied east of Aksum. Usually the AI does that when it is planning its next city... So Colony, you should build or pre-build (hammers in a settler by a size 6+ city, ready to be whipped) a settler during your set I think... we don't want to loose the 3 sites left. Also I would prefer Moai in the southern site as it will be probably more production oriented than the other one...
Philo bulb is also very important as we could then backfill metallurgy, feo...

Good luck for the next round :)

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

edit: a switch to pacifism after philo can be nice if we don't plan on an attack before liberalism...

Just finished playing, and didn't quite get all the techs needed, but got most of them. The only techs left that we could've traded for are Drama and Music, Darius still won't trade Thelogy, Feudalism or Currency. I didn't make the switch to Pacifism, although it might be a good idea, as I can't see a Mace/Treb war with Darius being a very good move yet. Now that we have Calendar we should probably try and get the sugar and silk hooked up as quickly as possible. Darius hasn't made a move on the eastern city site yet, though the Settler is still in the queue in Aksum, ready to be whipped if needed.

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

Spoiler :

0 - 25 AD - Trade Copper for Sheep and Silk - Darius has iron already anyway. Switch to a Settler in Aksum for a turn, ready to whip if necessary.

1 - 40 AD - Barracks -> axe in Novgorod

2 - 55 AD - Aksum - move settler down queue

7 - 130 AD - CoL finished, trade:

CoL + 5 gold for Maths + Meditation (Darius)
CoL for HBR (Gandhi)
Bulb Philosophy, Taoism is founded in Gondar, send missionary towards border with Darius. Start researching CS - Thought about Currency, but I was hoping Gandhi might get it soon so that it'd become possible to trade for, but it didn't.

8 - 145 AD - Trade Philosophy for MC/Sailing/Archery/20 gold (Darius)

9 - 160 AD - Trade Philosophy for Calendar (Gandhi) - A very 1 sided trade, but it got us up to Friendly, so no fear of WFYABTA for now, and the only other tech to trade for was Drama.

10 - 175 AD Hindu temple -> Courthouse in St. Petersburg.
Stop building research in Gondar and start a Forge.
