@dutch - W-W would go against our theory that the best settlement location for city #2 is to the south. Eventually we'll want to see on the other side of the W-W hill, but that should be on a lower priority than the south, IMO.
@Chamnix - That makes sense. I didn't look closely enough at the terrain on the other side of the hill.
If we want to use our warrior for nearby scouting then I think dutchfire's approach probably makes the most sense.
The counterpoint is that I thought we might want to use that warrior to hunt for contacts - in that case we just want to pass through our potential second city terrain fairly quickly and keep moving away from Baldric instead of around it. Future warriors can do the nearby scouting.
EDIT - now that I'm staring at this picture for a while, is there something in the fog 3 NW of Baldric, or is my vision blurring? Not that there is any hurry to explore that way because of that - we will see that tile once Baldric's culture expands, but I'm just curious if any expert fog-gazers have a prediction...
No cultural expansion this turn - since we started at "turn 1" instead of "turn 0", we don't get our expansion until turn 11. It looks like gbno1fan is up again in classical_hero's absence - a screenshot of what James Bond uncovers is always nice (maybe this time with the grid on ).
In the short-term, west should uncover a few more tiles than NW (peering out over the coast). I might move 1 more west before turning north. Also, we don't really want to go north through area we've already seen.
How interesting do you think that the coast will be?
We could go west and then north of course, but I doubt the sea will be that important to us at the moment, or in the near future.
You are absolutely right that the sea is very unlikely to be interesting. It is more a matter of where we are going next - northwest then heading due north will overlap on stuff we've already seen. If we are planning NW-NW, then W-N will end up in the same spot and will always uncover more (albeit most likely an uninteresting more in this case).
