Common Errors and/or Crashes Section

Not sure if you have a multiplayer thread, but having not spotted one I thought this might be a good place to say that I have been playing both 2 and 3 player multiplayer games recently. There are a lot of out of sync issues (not surprisingly when thigs get this epic).

We play using Hamachi and all of us use the same v20 download. We delete our "my docs/my games/beyond the sword" folder to begin the game so everything is generated fresh.

It seems to be worse when we have tribes or settlers out and about but the longer the game goes on the more errors we get.

Rise of Minkind:AND seemed to be mostly stable but C2C still has a lot of OOS errors. I'm just hoping that can be ironed out at some point?

If you need me to specifically supply any info and report on when it happens etc just let me know. Glad to help as much as I can to try and solve the annoying OOS.

Great MOD guys, thoroughly enjoying the GEM map at the moment!

With the logs provided since then several common OOS issues have been fixed so V21 should be considerably better for multiplayer.

Also this seems like something you might know about. A friend of mine is having the following problem...

"in the middle of my screen where it would tell you about natural disasters and resources found ..... the scrolling text thing it lists errors which cover most of the middle of the screen"

I once had the same problem but I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it?

I once had the same problem but I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it?
That usually means that BUG can't write in the folder where it likes to store user settings.
Either run the game as admin or give your normal user writing rights in the Civ4 folder and subfolders.

Btw, V21 is released by now :)
 
Trying to build a Nautilus unit (Steam Punk National 15 units) crashes the game to desktop in the attached save. It's Liverpool that can build it.

Oh, it game me a MiniDump file too. Sweet.
It's with Revision 1831 and any changed files I've added too.

There's some problem with the Nautilus, but I can't seem to figure out what. Hydro said that the icon is the proper size/formatting, and I can't find anything egregious in the Art Defines. Maybe the Minidump will help.
 
I have the option checked for ranged attack, the unit roll over says it can make ranged attack, but no button shows up for the ranged attack for archers.

I've tried to look into it myself but am not that versed in what's needed where. I do wonder though why most of the nautilus art are called submarine_xxx.xxx rather than nautilus_xxx.xxx.
I also can't find the <KFM>Art/Units/submarine/Submarine.kfm</KFM> file so I take it that's in the Core and so should work.
One more thing I noticed was that the NIF and the SHADERNIF both pointed to the same dds file. Is that by purpose too?

I'd really appreciate if this was fixed soonish. In the game I'm running SteamPunk is part of my strategy and Nautilus submarines an important aspect of that.
As I'm nearing Modern Age I don't really feel like restarting again so am a little bored here. *grin*

If you restart a game, try this once and let me know how it goes:

Dont do any attacking the enemy (not even barbarians) animals ok) till after you get Rifling, and see how things go from then on? I am just curious is all.:mischief:

It more than likely has to be Continents or large islands on a HUGE or larger map. Just guessing, If you have them all in one place then it wont work.
 
See how things go? They go decently well. The AI can't really touch me.
The game above I've mainly defended myself after initially taking out the Assyrians. Persians have attacked me now and then but haven't been able to dislodge me. I liberated a few of their cities to reduce the chance of war further down the line (the now 90 turns forced peace is great, almost too long for Eternity).

Attacking doesn't seem to be too difficult now, and I'm past Rifling, and so is the AI. A great general or two and my odds are around the 90+% using the most modern unit with base (15-20) xp, or 99+% using Blimps.

Speaking of Blimps, are not both Air Balloons and Blimps a tad overpowered?

*laugh* Didn't miss that, but hadn't played a game with them in yet. You can probably easily half their power, imo, as hot air balloons really shouldn't be even close to a match for gunpowder units. I mean, fire one volley and the balloon will pop. Same goes for a Blimp.
Apart from that I was wondering how non-gunpowder flying units would take out an army of soldiers, or take out a city defender, even if they weren't gunpowder units. Have an armada of hot air balloons filled with dynamite to throw down? Same goes for Blimp. Once you have gunpowder weapons for them it's another matter though they'd still be darned vulnerable to gunpowder units (maybe -50% vs gunpowder units, regardless of what their strength lands on).

Hello i just installed a mod (v 21) but he doesn't load. Just crashed before even loaded. Thanks for hints.
 
Starting game (beyond the sword) as administrator, then change in game to mod. Should i enable (in some way) especially this mod for administrator too? (if yes, how?)

go to the BtS exe and right click and it should be a pop-up thats says "Run as Administrator, i believe.
