Resourceless Roman Legions sound like a bit of a pain in the but though. I think that resourcelessness is a bonus on some of the UUs, but not on all. Might well be limited to the Elephant UUs and the War Chariot (because that is available so early)
Yes, I didn't mean to imply that all UU's would be resourceless, just pointing out that a few were. In the case of the War Chariot, it seems that being resourceless is its main advantage.

along with being damn quick, it can out pace a trieme, although admitedly not an english trieme, they'll have a move of 6, fanatically fantastic!

That's strange about the War Chariot. It really should require one (if it were a Sumerian chariot using Donkeys, I could understand, but not a horse-driven one).

Before long time of breeding, the horses were too weak to be ridden. So let's consider that's ancient "not the same" horses, which can't be used for mounted units and they are very common in Egypt :)

i imagine it probably did in one of the first builds of the game and they removed the requirement from newer builds because it made the eygptain uu better.

While Horse breeding techniques weren't as advanced as later, I do think it's hard to believe that Egyptians didn't breed horses for warfare that they used on their chariots. Although perhaps, in the long-run, this is a discussion for another thread. It does feel a bit unintuitive, though.

No horses for War Chariots obviously isn't a realism thing, its a gameplay thing to ensure that you are actually able to build your UU.

Which is odd in itself, since the last two games have had uus with resource requirements.

And in a timely manner. If Ramesses is trying to secure horses while his opponent is pumping out warriors and archers from turn 1, it kind of reduces Egypt's effectiveness as an early rush civ.

It's interesting that resourceless is a much bigger advantage in Civ V than it was in IV. In IV, sure some of the UUs were resourceless, but if you HAD the resource there was no advantage at all. But here, since even having the resource means you can only build a limited number, it's a much bigger advantage, since now you can use those resources for something else. Your total units will still be limited by other caps, but it's still nice, assuming that's how it'll work out.
