I've just started a game as Elizabeth, but as the acheivements log file no longer updates I have no idea if I'm being credited with sinking any ships and how far I've got towards this achievement.

Can also confirm it, does work.
Yeah I have it and it works.
Best way to get it I've found is a modern era start and raging barbarians. Spam destroyers and just camp out like 2-3 tiles from a camp. Sinking barbarian ships count towards the total.

Do multiplayer games add to your counts? I can't tell because it no longer updates the log.
Edit: To add to that, do scenario games add to counts for achievements? Besides the scenario achievements obviously. It seemed like they did for some (I got the win as inca achievement from the scenario)

Yes I am aware that those work, I am more wondering about whether the wins, roads, mines, forests etc achievements continue to add during multi player or scenarios.

Any ides how to get current status?
I do believe other achievements counts up when doing a scenario. Atleast I got the Hiawata achievement (longhouse) while playing the new world scenario.
Though, scenario victory achievements is bugged. In the new world scenario you get the victory achievement even if you don't reach 1000 points as long as you're the one with most points. It seems the same with the Mongol scenario, I didn't get all the major powers I needed but was first in points by turn 100 and got the time victory which seems enough to trigger the victory achievement.

Yes, they do. I got "Paul Bunyan" while playing New World.
Yes, this is true, on the highest difficulty mode just beat xia-xia, korea and the yellow chinese and you are number one by points and so you get the achievement

Why is achievement progress showing xxx of 140 when there are only 128 possible?

Because there are now 140. Some were added after the game was released and cover Babylon, Mongols, Spain, Inca and their related scenarios.
