It is totalitarianism and oppression that lead to inefficiency, not grand planning of the economy. You can't seriously tell me that capitalism, which wastes tons of resources everyday to redundancy and the most inane nonsense (Advertising! Spam! Cereal boxes with animal pictures on them!) is more efficient than a system which turned a backward agrarian country into a superpower history has never before seen despite constant attempts of sabotage by the rest of the world, and that wasn't even with its full potential unleashed as it was being held back by an authoritarian government!

How about Capitalism adds extra upkeep for units? Not just military units, all units! Workers, missionaries, workboat crews, they all need to be paid, don't they?

I mean the glorious Soviet Union, not the spoiled brat of the world's biggest imperialist that got a whole resource filled and fertile continent all to itself thanks to the help of the world's second biggest imperialist and after some initial hiccups never got invaded by anyone ever again while the rest of the world was busy killing each other in bigger and bigger wars. 'Murrica got everything handed to it on a silver plate while the Soviet peoples had to scrape their way up from the very bottom while constantly getting shot at, and they still managed to give the USA a run for their money.

There is no bigger success story in the history of mankind than that of the Soviet Union, right up until it was dissolved by traitors.

Please. You just don't know what your are talking about. I, on the other hand, was born in USSR. Industrialisation was made possible by the bones of GULAG slave labor. Economic system was absolutely unsustainable while party bosses practiced shameless ideological hypocrisy.

Industrialization tends to be based on exploitation, yes. The Soviet Union at least didn't invade other countries for their slave labor as the west did, and for the most part it wasn't based on such a ridiculous concept as race but more on (perceived) loyalty to the party. Also it had barely two decades to achieve what other countries had done in a century, without colonies of its own, and with imperialists breathing down its neck. Would you rather they slacked off with Industrialization and had a jolly good fifteen years with cupcakes for everyone before the Nazis come massacre evreyone?

You know what I always find hilarious? People bringing up that story about Jeltsin/Yeltsin/thetraitorthatisevenworsethanGorbachev visiting an American supermarket and losing his faith in communism after seeing the large assortment of goods available. If you have an entire continent to exploit at your leisure (something something banana republics) it is no wonder that you can offer lots of decent stuff to the people in the core lands.

A GULAG inmate usually had a better life than an American or African native once the Europeans came a'knockin', and for the most part did more to deserve his fate. And no, this does not mean I don't believe that innocents suffered in gulags as well, just that by definition the ratio of innocents to guilty* had to be lower there than in the Americas because the Natives there did literally nothing but exist when the genociding started.

Yes, that is part of why it collapsed.

In western capitalistic democracies meanwhile hypocrisy of leaders is what makes the system work in the first place, funny that.

To suggest the West was the only culture to practice mass slavery is laughable. They were certainly the most brutally efficient at it but they far from the only ones.
