I got this strange thing from Seagate about the RMA. What does it mean? I only sent one drive back.

Ok, called customer support, it is getting shipped back. Its terribly confusing

Question: Is Softpedia generally a reputable site? Would you download a program from there if the original was unavailable?

I downloaded 7 Pro but I decided to wait until my new drive comes back before reinstalling (In case things go wrong, it'll be annoying to have to restore backup from all those discs.)

Question #1. The newspaper says the government is spending $3.5 million to secure its computer systems from "hackers and cyber attacks." Wouldnt it be cheaper to disconnect the vital computers from the networks and lock them in a room?

Question 2. Today in networking we did some stuff on IP addressing and the teahcer gave us a sheet. They give us a Host IP address and a Subnet Mask and they want us to find the Network Address, Host Address Octets, Broadcast Address, and "Range of possible host addresses." The teachers explanations of it managed to just pass by my head (some days I really hate being dumb). Could somebody give me a dumbed-down explanation of how to do it?

For government budgeting purposes, "Cyber Security" means, "Pay my friend who owns a software business"

Question: Someone I know online got the same rogueware twice in three days. The first time I wasnt around so she did a system restore and apparently cleaned it up. The second time I was there so we did get it cleaned up. My question is how could this happen? She wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary. Could a malware somehow come out of a system restore to mess things up again? I googled it and one site said that malware in a system restore is relatively harmless while some other sites said the opposite.

I generally do not download betas but have recently downloaded the IE9 beta. I realize IE is not the most popular web browser among Civ posters. Has anyone tried the IE9 beta? What was your impression? Thanks.

IE9 is perfect in every way. except no adblock.

it sucks to me. i refuse to use any web browser that doesn't have ad-block. i do not want my bandwidth wasted for useless stuff.

I block ads because I never click them anyways. AFAIK they dont make any money for not clicking. So Im saving bandwidth

I've been using the IE9 beta, and even though it's nice and much better than the old ones, it still has some problems and lacks add-ons. I don't think I'll be using it. Firefox 4.0 beta is really nice, I've been using it as my main browser since it came out.

I figured out that means its a refurbished drive ... Oh well, as long as it doesnt fail again I dont have much a problem...

Question: How do you tell what program is randomly trying to access the CD drive? I think Process Explorer can do it but I dont recall how to do that

I had to reinstall Firefox. And I haven't gotten it fully reset as I want it yet. I'm coming up with one weird effect on CFC that I've never seen before and don't know how to handle though. On the main forum page it is possible to collapse sections that you don't look at to reduce clutter. Except now, every time I load or reload the page, those sections expand again. Any idea how to fix that?

Try deleting all cookies and flushing the cache.

Seems to have worked. Odd, because I did a fresh install after a 100% delete yesterday. So I wouldn't have expected a corrupted cookie.

Maybe next time create a new profile, Thats what I would do. I have a blank "test profile" though I suppose Firefox Safe Mode would work too.

You can set up the Firefox profile to direct to where you want, I keep mine in an AppData folder on the data partition.

Heres a silly question: My network thing says "Local Only" yet Im obviously online. I googled it and got people who couldn't connect to the net. Whats going on?
