Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

No, Vista.

.....Um, I just checked the updates and no.

EDIT: Installed a crapload of updates now Vista's at SP2. Yay!

An unexpected side-effect of doing so is that now it lists my full 4 gigs of RAM. Used to say 3.10 GB or something.

Would I be breaking any rules if I asked for a Google Wave invite, from anyone who might have them? Or if I start a thread to discuss Google Wave (and ask for invites)?

Just wondering: How does google know the "related searches" at the bottom? Where does it get them?

Oh good lord! Do you post every random thought that enters your head?

This is really something you should try and google for.

I did try googling it. I got some stuff about the related searches becoming more noticable and stuff, nothing on how they actually determine what's related or not.

They have cameras tracking your every move. They know all your likes and dislikes. I'm betting you get a lot of Petty ads right?

Google has access to a lot of info on you. Every time you view a page with google ads, you get ads related to the page, or the info you're looking for (if you're on google search.) You also have cookies that track you. Google is also using another set of data points: sequential searches. When people search for one thing, and dont find what they're looking for, often they'll rephrase the search. Google records this info, and sees that some searches come up more often after a specific one which means that the two are most likely related.

You may wanna improve your google-foo Aimee. "google related searches algorithm" gave me plenty of info on how it works.

Well, I was going to try that, but I couldn't remember how to spell algorithm.

No, I couldn't remember the spelling at all, except the first two letters. So I dont think google would help too much with that.

Another google question:
I was trying to look up a phrase and I kept getting books with the title. So I went "-book" and got results with "books." Then I went "-book*" but they still came up in my results. What did I do wrong?

I don't understand? I know how to use google, but what did I wrong?

No, aimee, you don't know how to use google. If you knew how to use google, you wouldn't keep posting these inane questions about having problems googling for something. I don't know how many times you've posted "Oh, I googled for it, but the search results were weird." I actually doubt you do use google. I think you come here and just start posting stuff because you can't look for it yourself.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, learn to use google and stop posting every random thought that pops into your head here.
