Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

When you install a Firefox addon, it pops up a window and it has a timer, 5 seconds before you can install it. The timer is stuck on 5 so I can't install any addons. Obviously you can't install any addons in safe mode to test it. How do I unstick it?

(Google brings up various addons to track time and stuff.)

Not yet.

Try that. It's also possible that it wasn't counting down because the site wasn't able to download it just then.

Well, the issue suddenly resolved itself and I didn't even reboot. Odd, because when it happened it did that with all the addons I tried to install (three or four of them). Maybe it was an issue with connecting to the addon site or something.

I'm looking through my searches in Google Web History for something. I notice some searches back in August that there is no way I could have made. (Various lyrics for songs I don't even know and a lot of searches for some member on NeoPets). Nobody has access to my computer but me. What's going on here?

EDIT: Oddly enough, a lot of them are searches for musicians and TV shows that some of my "friends" are interested in. And they stopped shortly after I did my regular password change. Maybe I'm being paranoid here.

I find myself in need of bibliography/citation management software. Does anyone know of such a program that is
1) free
2) can output to BibTeX
3) can be queried (i.e., I can ask it "list entries where author==mankiw" or "list entries where journal==American Economic Review" or somesuch)
4) Bonus points if it can read in BibTeX source files, as well as output to them.

I could hack something together in C++ or Stata, but why reinvent the wheel?

:)

edit: I guess what I'm fundamentally after is a bibtex front-end, if that helps any.

BIB-it looks fairly decent. I've never used it, but it says it will do what you ask.

My scanner gave me an image with rainbow lines, something similiar to this but not even half as bad, I was able to hide them using an image editor. The next picture I scanned was fine.
The person there says something about a failing CCD, but I don't know what that means. (Lots of stuff about digital cameras, but I don't think it's the same thing.) I also found this which says something about flickering lights, which I do understand. Rest of the things I found weren't much help, got various reviews of scanners and things like that. It is something I should worry about for now?

EDIT: This blog describes replacing a lightbulb to fix the rainbow lines issue. I don't think mine is under warranty anymore, esp. since I bought it clearance. Oh, and I lost the warranty card, too.

CCD is failing - this is not a repaiir situation- time for this scanner to go.

The little electronic component that acts as the eye is failing. Can't be fixed. Machine needs to be replaced.

Well, the second and third links (minus the google define) I found said that its not always the CCD. The lines were vertical but only because I rotated the scanner image before scanning.

Find the manual for that scanner and see if the bulb is replaceable on that model. If it is, then you can try ordering one and replacing it. However, flatbed scanners that are probably sufficient for your needs start little over $50 new. And used is an option as well.

I have one of those combo ones with the printer in it, too. Because I don't have much room.

Well, I've done a couple more scans and no sign of those lines. Probably just a temporary thing.

What might be a good high def TV tuner card? I have PCI-E and PCI 2.2 slots on the mobo. I'm looking for something inexpensive that allows HDTV in and out. Possible with a DVR function as well.

I have a 29.something GB "generic" USB drive. It's in FAT32. Should I bother formatting it to NTFS?

It's hardly worth the bother unless you're going to try to secure what's on it.
