Corey Booker and the SNAP (food stamp) challenge

That would involve people putting their money where their mouth is, and then chewing it ;)

We played this game last year and I proved decisively you can eat healthy for 20 dollars a week ( one adult).

If anyone cares to challenge me I shall do it again, as long as you play too.

No, you never did prove anything like that. The simple and undeniable fact that costs of living have big variations depending on location makes your proposal ridiculous.

Please tell me you didn't just have the money in one-cent bills and then ate the bills…

I did. And if you want to use a COLA feel free, as most aid groups do the same.

So do you accept the challenge?

Why don't you just post what you ate and its costs, so we can compare to the grocery prices in our own areas?

What does a Cola 33c can cost in the US?

I just added 20$ up in food costs and I wouldn't last a week if it's supposed to be healthy food... but I think the Cola currency would make it fairer.

That's how it would work to keep people honest, you post pictures of your reciepts and I use a grocery store you can verify online. Originally I also fit in a happy hour, I am down for doing that again (yes all alcohol is included in the twenty dollars. Condiments you own are excluded, even the poor have plenty of those in house, but you have to report what you use for discussion/possible disqualification.

The benefit of this is that it is a good way to learn/teach how to save money with food.

Due to being on a ship right now I don't have any say in food, but I transfer on the 4th. Anyone down with starting on the 7th, seven full days?

I would, but devaluation would mean that U$S33 would go a looong way if used properly.

Let's see… one dollar's worth nearly five pesos in the legal -restricted- currency market, so that's anywhere between 6.50 and 8 pesos on the black market…at the very least I'd get 150 pesos.

Oh, that! 20-30% year-on-year inflation, then. Which, according to your website, gives…

Consumer Price Index|Rent Index|Consumer Price Plus Rent Index|Groceries Index|Restaurant Price Index|Local Purchasing Power Index
76.36|22.65|50.10|70.59|67.73|51.39

So we should actually decrease your allowance by 30% (I am using the grocery number), if I lived in NYC.

Still about a hundred and five pesos left.
