We already had an atheist president, but he would never criticise Jesus on public as that would be political suicide in Brazil.

He or she could be electable but his or her statements would sound intolerate and thus would lead me to question if he or she would have the best interests of ALL the countries citizens instead of a slim minority that would agree with that rhetoric.

Would that be the president that did commit suicide?

Yes he would and he would get a lot of media attention when doing this...
Perfct example is the politician who was drunk when he celebrated his victory during the elections, eversince he's an icon in Belgium.

In concur dearden is a clear representation of f***ed up politicians, but ever imagine DeDecker would be elected
don't forget this politician you see on youtube can be the next vice-
premier "shudders"

Any politician who called jesus a drunkard and imperialist would get my vote

Vargas was an atheist, but not the only atheist president of Brazil. Atheism was fashionable among late 19th and early 20th century republicans, after all.

I know you have some point to make about some Indian politician who called Ramakandra or whatever a drunkard and you're pissed about it...

lol, Vishnu was a pill popper.

You hit it right on the head.

Although it is missing the obligatory Muslim hate.

In the U.S.? probably not. I sure as hell wouldn't vote for him

Nope, the openly atheist was FHC, who is still alive.

The one who commited suicide, Getúlio Vargas, was a religious man. He firmly believed that he was God.

Edit: And innonimatu is quite right that the early presidents of Brazil were fierce enemies of the Church, and they probably were all atheists. But ever since suffrage became universal, publically declaring to be an atheist became complicated for a president, and that's why FHC is a notable case. And even he was very cautious when making comments about religion.

I wish this could happen in the U.S., He/She would get mormon votes though.

probably not since christians make up a very large portion of the population

Ah I think I got the answer wrong. Neither his comments nor his platforms would make such a politician unelectable in France. But while his comments would not probably hurt him too much, I don't think he would win on his platform, though, and thus I voted 2.

In San Francisco or Manhattan, maybe; but I can't imagine anywhere else... :(

In my country, there are too many Fundamentalists for them to make it to Primaries before being assasinated.

Man, here in the US, the guy would get shot immediately by some person in the crowd! Religion plays such a fundamental role in the way we elect our leaders. It pisses me off to no extent, simply because in a land of Free Religion, people need to be informed of "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE"

He'd never win, but the statements are fine. I didn't know Jesus, so for all I know, he could be right, and he's entitled to his opinion. If Jesus is as awesome as a lot of people believe he is, he'll get over it.

His anti-religion platform is not acceptable. People have the right to believe what they want to believe, just so long as we don't make laws because a scripture told us to.

Where are you from?
