CrezNES - Another Return to Our Roots

when bengal gets nukes it'll be renamed to "bang-all".

The Origins of the Library Colony
In the reign of Rudd II, the primary focus was on the consolidation of southern former East Jasiran. But this didn't mean he couldn't focus to some degree on other ventures. Among these was the Library Colony.

The origins of this development were in the aftermath of the Culture Wars, a series of wars in which the Australian tribes were pushed into western Jasiran. Most of them submitted to the government (having no choice), but had nowhere to live- the locals, in practice, refused to accept them.

A small minority of them were sent to the fort-town of Nauru to consolidate East Jasiran, but with most of them President Rudd hired them as his personal "bodyguard", hoping to use them as an additional force.

The problem was that there were too many- the local area could not support them. As he had attacked legal fictions before, he could not without looking foolish have an "extended bodyguard". Therefore, he needed another option.

The answer ultimately opted for was the creation of the Bureaucratic Commitie- the word bureaucracy, although quickly invented in response to the Committie's corruption, did not previously exist. It became such a farce that for the next ten years (during which Rudd II died and was replaced by his nephew, Beasley XVI), they went so far as to not actually report.

Ultimately, a solution was proposed (although by now there was opposistion- the tradition of the enormusly-sized bodyguard was seen as part of Jasiran's culture). A new institution, the "scholar", would emerge- studyers of books whose job would be to analyise events from the information written and write down "impartial" (although this was a legal fiction in practice) accounts of events.

At first, these "scholars" took up the palace, and acted more as bodyguards then scholars in the later sense. But eventually various buildings were constructed after rebellions led to opportunities for confiscation, and eventually 40% of "scholars" lived in the countryside.

Eventually, in the fall of the North Cadredec Dynasty, the rest of the scholars (who were very bodyguardish in their ways still, and fought to the death for their President) were killed. Slowly, the "scholars" would become the institution known to later years...

Pirates 2: Threat from the West
Piracy, which the treaty between Florida and Tartessos was expected to be put to bed, returned with a vengeance as Floridian pirates began raiding Tartessian settlements all across the Atlantic coastline. This came about recently as the Floridian colony defected completely to the Tartessians. When the flag of Tartessos flew above the small settlement, enraged and nationalistic Floridian sailors donned a pirate's hat and went the way of Carthage. Although no pillage was able to be successfully returned to Orlando, it distracted Tartessos significantly such that assaults on Sardinia were easily repulsed.

Speaking of, Carthage continues to hang by a thread this year as wave after wave was fended off by the reconstituted Carthaginian navy. The invasion force of Tartessos was easily countered with minimal casualties on both sides as Tartessos attempted to protect its cargo, and Milan's assistance largely was relegated to protecting coastal settlements. Rumors abound of secret Carthaginian alcoves running in southern France and Italy, facilitating raiding efforts. Although the quasi-war went no way in either direction this century, it may be that Carthage's continued survival and constantly improving position will allow it to scrape out a victory in the long run.

All in all it was an uneventful and quiet century in the Mediterranean as both sides remain at a standstill. With Floridian-Tartessian relations once again put on ice by rogue privateers, and as Carthage manages time and time again to thwart Tartessian efforts at crushing the pirates, it seems that a war of attrition is in the making.

RANDOM EVENT: Legend has it that the unconquered lands of the world contain treasures! The sages tell of where three such treasures may be... "Eastmost islands hold the secret." "The center of subcon von Asia." "The farthest south before the ice."

Switching to Teutonia.

EDIT: Switching back to Jasiran.

President Latham III and the End of the Cadredecs

i: Introduction
Circa 2145 BC, the Cadredec Dynasty had a glorious record. They had lasted for centuries, and whilst various branches competed for the throne no non-Cadredec had ever held it during their time- and were resigned to never do so. Centeralisation had increased greatly- by now, the whole of what outsiders saw as Jasiran could be said to be such.

The long reign of Latham II was considered (in hindsight) the golden age of the Cadredecs, if not the whole country. The northern islands were assimilated, sucess in expansion came in on all fronts, and Latham's personal prowess in battle was unrivalled (a tradition called the Budokai Tournaments began here, as Presidents challenged any fighter in the world- except rebels- to try and defeat them, with a large cash prize (by peasant's standards) if they suceeded).

It was perhaps, however, not good for the realm that Latham II lived to the age of 105. He had consistently lost every Budokai Tournament he stubbornly continued to hold, and whilst he was still able to govern the realm there were doubts about his son's capabilities.

When, at the age of 105, Latham was assasinated by a madman, the future of the dynasty was considered to be at stake. This was a correct assessment...

ii- Trying to Adjust:
Whilst his father was still healthy, Latham III was struggling to speak at 85. (Incidentally, his mother's line, from the House of Timor, had a reputation from then on for being cursed) It was proposed that a Regent be appointed, but for this there was no precedent. Invoking the authority of Parliament was considered too risky, as they might regain real power- the Mandate of Heaven, having been denounced by Latham II, was not avaliable as an option.

The first test of his reign was the Budokai Tournament. Latham III insisted on it with his every breath, making it's not being held treason. Reluctantly, his court watched as a series of individuals (including a 14-year old boy) proceeded to defeat Latham in a battle to the death. (One in particular was noted for being, besides the 14-year old boy, the youngest fighter to attend- and for punching a guard on the way out)

Sadly for the Cadredecs as a whole, most of their lines had been exterminated. The last two surviving ones, the Java-Cadredecs and the South Cadredeces, had been exterminated by Latham II. The Cadredec candidates remaining were limited to Latham himself and Governor Beazus (the heir to the throne). Scrupulously, Beazus refused to rebel against his father.

This left one option...

Toleto, 21st May, Year 918 of the Kingdom

Angelo was really keen in getting out of his home so that he could play with his friends, and so that he could show the thing his dad had made for him.

Angelo's father was a leather-worker, and, knowing how much his son liked to play around, he had made a ball out of leather strips which he then sewed together, so that it kept a spherical form and the air didn't escape from the inside. Angelo had liked the present a lot.

As soon as he reached the grassfield in which he usually met his friends, he instantly found Alber, Jorg and Jose.

"Hi, guys!"

"Hey, Angelo, how did you get that ball?" Jose asked.

"Dad made it from the leather he doesn't use and gave it to me last night," Angelo said.

"That's nice," Jorg said. "What do you want to do?"

"I'd say that we could play to kick the ball around, and also a monkey-in-the-middle game."

"Not it!" Alber shouted.

"Not it!" Jorg and Angelo repeated.

"Damn," Jose said, "it's always me."

"Let's try to play only kicking it," Jorg said, "it'll make this funnier."

"OK," Angelo said, dropping the ball to the floor, "if someone that is not the monkey touches it with the hands, he is it."

And then he kicked the ball towards Alber. Jose tried to intercept it, but to no avail. It would take a few minutes, but Jose finally managed to catch it jumping and using his left hand to catch the ball.

"Wow! That move was good," Alber said.

"Hey! I thought that you couldn't use your hands!" Jorg said, as he had been the last to touch the ball before Jose caught it.

"No, you can't use your hands if you aren't the monkey, but as he was it, then he could," Angelo pointed out

Jorg grumbled, but he knew that Angelo was right, so he took the position of monkey while Jose grinned and jumped out of the middle of the group.

Las excelencias de la Cocina Tartesiana

The excellences of Tartessian Cooking

Oliva Oil has been a part of the Tartessian way of life ever since the Olivo (the symbol of the province of Janea) was first found by scouts of the Kingdom. The taste of the olivas on themselves weren't very attractive to them, but one of them discovered that the juice the olivas produced when squeezed gave their bread a wonderful taste. They decided to take some of the seeds back home and planted them in their gardens, taking care of the small trees until a few years later, in which the delicious juice of the olivas was again squeezed and spread over slices of bread. The taste would improve even more when putting slices of jamón tartésico (Tartesian Ham) over them.

The newly discovered tastes were a hit among the low classes of the city of Malaca, and slowly reached the higher ones until, reportedly, King Tonio the Fifth was served this simple, yet delicious and nutritive, dish. The king's delight at the taste was what definitively launched the oliva oil and the jamón tartésico into Tartessos' markets.

Nowadays, many farms hold a few hectares dedicated to the cultive of olivos, giving out many tons of olivas every year that were nearly all (according to certain historians, this would be around an 80 percent of production) consumed in the form of oil, with the remaining 20 percent being eaten directly by people who were able to go past the acid taste of the fruit. Even the pulp left from the squeezed olivas was used, this time to create a liquor called Orujo. This would be the main alchoholical drink among the low classes, as the higher ones preferred Tartessian wine, grown in the north-east of the Iberian Peninsula and southern Tartessian Frankia.

The benefits of oliva oil were many, as people would discover over time. For example, it was (and still is) healthier than animal fat to cook with, as the oil's fats were of a more beneficial kind, and it was easier to both product and store, while animal fat tended to make foods oilier. Also, people that used oliva oil were normally slimmer than the rest, thus making them more able to resist long bouts of exercise, what attracted the military.

It would become to the point that the High Council decided that all the Olivo's would be under the protection of the State, as they were a very important product for every person in the country, and trade with other nations for the tasty liquid gold gave many benefits to the country...

Rumours of Pirates

Not long after gaining contract with the Tartessos, the some of the Songhai settlers began to hear rumours of pirates to the north.

Up to this point the only threat to trade that the Songhai had to deal with was small time bandits but these were rare in Kingdom as their armies was in charged of rooting them out and to an making them an example of. They never any real threat as they lacked the resources to attack large trade caravans or ships.

However these northern pirates were different, it was say they ruled the seas and now the ocean with no rivals. Nations only able to limit their damage but unable to stop them! It said that these pirates came across the great ocean to meet up with pirates who was based in sea to north of the continent.

If these rumours were true then we and only hope that they choose not to travel south and trouble the Songhai.
