Great Asian War

The millenium kicked off rather auspiciously for the Imperials when the empire found itself under attack on all fronts by foreign powers. In the south, expansion efforts were stopped in their tracks by dedicated natives, pledging allegiance to the Jasiran, who fought back against Imperial settlers. In the west, Imperial efforts to seize control of India from the Betal-Darese were thwarted when the Darese garrison refused to give up the land, resulting in fierce fighting. Finally, Koryo and Wu both attacked the Empire, with an amphibious attack on Honshu and a giant campaign against the Imperial Chinese colonies outstanding.

Perhaps the worst of these fronts for the Empire was the home front. A massive Koryoan army landed in northern Hokkaido and quickly marched south, in a matter of days smashing the partisans rallied to defend against the Koryoans. The indefatigible JugguhNOTaughts utterly crushed all Imperial resistance, and captured the Emperor. With the home island under control of Koryo, Imperial command has devolved down to the head Admiral of the High Seas fleet, who pledges to destroy the enemy at all costs.

Further bad news floated home to the Imperials when it was reported that Betal-Dare did not cede control of India to Imperial command. The local Imperial forces, under orders to secure West India, marched into Betal-Dare and, after they tried to establish control, were regarded as hostiles by the Betal-Darese forces. The Immortals swarmed and destroyed the Nipponese garrison and even gained some land in a counterstrike, dividing lower India from the Bengal province.

The news only gets worse for the Imperials, as the Chinese front proved no better. The massive Imperial garrison in China responded to the Wu invasion in like, and quickly moved to meet the attack. In a massive battle north of Hong Kong, the Imperials defended themselves against the Wu invasion. In a massive display of military inadequacy, the Imperials failed to inflict any casualties on the invaders and were utterly routed, many divisions destroyed as thousands retreated and control was lost of Southeast China.

The war is thus far looking bad for the Imperial army, however with the fleet still intact and a massive industry asyet untapped, the war could still go either way. (-7 Iron armies for Empire)

RANDOM EVENT: The stars say that this millenium will be one of building, but the next will be one of discord... wise men and clever folk advise to hunker down for the coming storm...

Stories:

The Rise of Norism

i: Influences on Norism
The Cembrians (of OTL New Guinea) were not one people prior to the Jasiranese conquest. Jasiran, despite it's contrasting approaches (in the west they used pure force for conquests, in the east pure culture), saw them as one people- giving them some degree of identity. But they were not.

Various animistic "faiths" existed throughout the islands. Most of them believed in ancestor-"worship", though some in particularly Jasiran-influenced areas were, like their patron power, polythiestic. There was a small Yagratist (local term for people from the Empire of the Rising Son) area in the north (sailors causing some influence), Weneran immigrants (the Werenan were one of the most loyal peoples in the Empire, and sought to develop the new territories), and finally the town and port of Shalmasere and Cogrious respectively.

These two were both influences on Norism, each arising from a synthesis of cultures already there. It was these two, along with influences from the Continent, which would produce the Norism that would become the state religion in 1600 BC. Therefore, each is worth looking at in it's own right.

In the Shalmaserist compromise, ancestor-spirits were said to have been minor Gods all along. Worship was done in a Jasiranist fashion (with sacrifices), and turned into something closer to fitting the term 'worship'. The Yagratist Gods ruled the pantheon, but in practical terms were turned into "clones" of Weneran Gods. The Gods, however, subdued the peoples and made the President ruler- for why else was his empire so large and powerful?

In the Cogrian compromise, there was less synthesis. In some places ancestor spirits ruled, in others Gods. New Gods and "cosmic forces" were invented to be rulers of this pantheon- ones who delegated to many peoples according to their nature. Each region's ancestors and Gods were said to be as they said they were.

It was into this world that Norism was born.

ii: The Rise of Norism
Norism was a three stage process. Each stage was a "major" jump on it's own, but none on it's own would create a religion quite so appropriate for the Jasiran of 1600 BC. It was by no means inevitable, even factoring for all three jumps, that Norism would prevail in Jasiran- but it was those which gave it the features which made it able to "fight" in such a "war."

The first began when the Madarite (Madaria being an Indonesian island controlled by Jasiran) Frannius came to Cembria. His family were an unusual case, having migrated to Cogrious to settle down after their father's long merchant career. Frannius was born late in life, and his earliest memories were from Cembria, more specifically Cogrious.

Frannius wondered at the nature of the truth, and tried to free himself from the trappings of his society. He threw off most Madaria influences, but could not help but incoporate Cogrian ideas. In his world view, many Gods and ancestor spirits were in fact the same (as they had similiar personalities). He also added another element- that by pleasing the Gods, one could earn immortality. One of the primary ways to do this was to spread the Truth. One part of the later appeal was born here- that of the Missionary.

The second jump incoporated Shalamaserist views. Two generations after Frannius's time, Navegid (the son of a tribal immigrant from the countryside and a member of the tribal bourgouise) incoporated Shalamaserist views. In his world view, inquiry and mediation were the best way to advance the Truth (justifying his breaking in some respects from Frannius). The Gods of Jasiran (some synthesised with ones from other pantheons) were seen as the best way to gain favor and immortality, but the worship of one's ancestors seen best to do in exchange for their aid, and a moral duty as well. Jasiranist methods of worship were adopted.

The third jump was not doctrinal, but in terms of creating a religious base. Soon after Navegid's death, his right hand man Pansark began spreading the new doctrine. Pansark, a natural charismatic, used the promise of immortality to suceed. Local authorities did not persecute him- after all, he was better then the natives. Comparative to tribalists, Norists would gain posistions of power and status- and would soon become, in the eyes of the outside world, representative of "the natives".

I have your homeland, and my army is strong enough to repel any invasion you make to either retake your homeland, or invade Koryo propper. Thus, you could outright destroy my fleet and still not be able to gain anything from this continued war. I require the rest of the nipponese islands. The Rise of Norism- Part II

iii- The Prophecy
An institution of the old Jasiran religion was that of the Prophet. Once manipulated by the state, the Prophet's seat was a hereditary institution as a concession to the Wrondecs (at that time, there was a largely unjustified fear of the "Queensland Bloc" allying with "the countryside" to destroy the traditional Northern interests). After this, it was a seat of their power.

The Wrondecs made a play for power, beginning with the Prophet proclaiming that the Gods wished them to rule. The Ziman Dynasty began to run into a dilemna with this particular situation.

The trouble was that they had always supported the Prophets. Every single prophecy so far was made for the State's interests. (People on the mainland, especially in the city, were sceptical- but new possesions usually fell for it) They now had the choice, they thought at first, between admitting them a lie (thus discrediting the religion and thus the basis of the President's power) and looking like complete hypocrites. The choice of "repenting" of making the Prophetship hereditary was considered too hypocritical-looking.

They decided to take a fourth option- adopt a new religion. Many possible options including many invented candidates were proposed. Ultimately, it was narrowed down to three. Of the three, Norism is already known to the reader.

The second was Pracadism, at first the leading candidate. Pracadists were a far-Southern mix with animistic religions, thus acceptable to the Southern provinces and tribes which could be expanded into in the future. It accepted the Mandate of Heaven, and was opposed to Parliament. (Which the ruler of the time, Kidmos III, disliked as useless)

The third was Bron-desde. This was a "home-grown" religion which was monethiestic, but practically kept the old institutions. The idea was that they would minimally upset the status quo by developing a subset which would be usuable for the war with the Wrondecs.

The trouble was, however, that all candidates were too hypocritical-looking. In order to suceed, it was believed, "fresh blood", or the appearance of it, was needed. By pretending to adopt the teachings of the Norists, the central government could appeal to one of their Gods or Cosmic Forces to override the Jasiran Gods and the Prophet.

Eventually, this was the road taken...

UUs: Guerrilleros Acerados:
Spoiler They are really strong :
These Guerrilleros are undoubtly the most experimented and lethal warriors in all of Tartessos, and perhaps the world. Their training, consisting of learning how to survive in the most extreme conditions (from Eires', the Pirineos' and Sierra Nevada's coldest winters to the extreme heat that hits the North African savannah in the middle of July, and even in tiny islands in the middle of the sea), has taught them how to feed themselves even if there doesn't seem to be anything to eat. Their favoured weapon is the famed (or notorious, depending of who you are) axe-knife, which can help them kill many enemies in a matter of seconds thanks to the iron knife embed in the axe's handle, although they are also able to use small throwing knives and a bow to kill enemies at a long distance. Their most interesting feature is the armour they wear: iron armour covered with Campustellan alligator skin, and a helmet made with an alligator's head and iron, which gives them a terrifying appearance to anyone that faces them. In close quarter combat, sneak attacks and ambushes, they have no rival, but should they face an enemy in a frontal attack, they won't be able to score an easy victory.

1 gold per.
We are also missing several things, like some Iron Age and later ages wonders and the name of the ages after Bronze Age in the first page.

I'll be sending my orders soon. Stories to be posted here in the very near future.

History of the Kingdom of Tartessos

Year 1120: The Great Travel

Probably only surpassed by Florida's travel across the Atlantic Ocean and the Empire of the Rising Sun's attempts of expansion through the Indic Ocean in the matter of riskiness and importance, the Northern Expansion travel is seen by historians as a very important point in the history of Tartessos, because it was not only an attempt to find new lands to colonise in the name of the King, but because it would open a route that could take ships to North America without having to resort to the Florida-controlled Route of the Azores.

According to plans developed and stored in the ancient Archivos de la Marina, this expansion plan was a premeditated attempt to reach the American continent designed by the High Admiralty, nicknamed Plan Colón after the former Milanese admiral that suggested the idea.

The plan, which had been put immediately into action, called for many people to join a fleet which would take them far away from the already known lands and towards the cold north, where hopefully islands where living was possible would be found. Many youngsters would leave with the fleet, searching for adventures and a new life, and several artisans and expert farmers and fishers would join them in their travel.

The first stop done in the Northern Expansion travel was in an archipelago that would be called Merina. It was formed by eighteen different islands, all of which would be inhabited by fifteen people each, who would start to build the first houses and farms for the cities that would soon be populated by more people from the ships that would come behind them. A statue in the city of Nueva Orania commemorates this colonization effort, as well as remember the names of the people that risked their lifes for it.

After that, the fleet reached other island, slightly bigger than Sicilia, where the coldness made it clear that farming would not be very easy, not to say that it would be impossible. It would be called Isla del Hielo for the glaciers that could be found in the interior of the island.

Finally, the long travel reached an end when the fleet arrived to the hugest island they had ever seen, even bigger than the Iberian Peninsula, which was very big on its own. They settled in the southern coast, starting at the point they had landed, which would be where the first city of the island of Colonbia (named after the Admiral who designed the plan) would be placed, under the name of Nueva Iliberri. It would take several years before the other side of the island could be reached, but by that time the presence of the Kingdom of Tartessos in the island was indisputable.
