President to run for second term
President Pavlov announced today that he will run for a second term of presidency with massive support from his party.
His opponent, senator Wilkins, attacked the president for focusing too much on international affairs and ignoring the business of the United States. It is possible that the presidents new hard line against China is a way to show his determination and resolution.
Attack on Kuwaiti airbase leaves 26 dead
Armed men, believed to be disguised members of the Iraqi republican guard, made an attack on a US airbase in Kuwait. Ten marine corps soldiers, five maintenance workers and eleven civilians were killed. About thirty persons were injured. All the attackers were killed by US marines and Kuwaiti soldiers.
The planes currently stationed at the airbase were evacuated and the US servicemen there will be brought out later. The aircraft carrier USS Independence, currently on course to Colombo, was redirected to support the airbase. As of yet it is unknown what the US response will be, although outraged congressmen from both parties called for immediate strikes on Iraq.
Anti-pollution aid to the Russian federation
After reports from EPA officials in Russia the president has granted a $ 1,6 billion dollar aidpackage to Russia to combat pollution. He trusts that this money will come to good use.
GPS implemented on all US ships
All ships of both the merchant fleet and the navy are now equipped with the system that will not only increase the safety of ships but also their efficiency.
War in eastern Europe?
It appears that the seizing of Odessa and Bucharest by Russian forces was not seen lightly by neutral forces. In a statement from State department the president pleaded with both sides to remain calm.
Major fleet exercise in the Philippines
Elements of the Pacific fleet conducted a joint exercise with Philippine forces. Commander Garcia of the USS John F Kennedy took the opportunity to put down a wreath at the memorial to the American and Philippine soldiers defending the islands 55 years ago.
