Crossroads of the World and Right to Rule DLC - themed predictions based on what we know

I'd guess the Cothon maybe?
I hope not. For one, artificial harbors should be Phoenicia's unique infrastructure. For another, given that the Phoenicians were known for their monumental architecture, I'd really hope their wonder would be one of their excavated temples.

Qajar over Safavid is... a choice, but decent lineup otherwise!
I'd be disappointed about that as well if I weren't too busy being furious over Carthage. :(

My bets:

Antiquity: Assyria, Silla and Carthage

Exploration: Bulgaria and Dai Viet

Modern: British, Nepal and Qajar

Counting Shawnee, we'd have 13 > 13 > 13 in the end.

That does make a sort of sense. If Nepal is Exploration, then even though they added 9 civs (including the Shawnee), Explroation still has the biggest roster, and Modern is suddenly the smallest. But moving Nepal to Modern corrects that.

I had been thinking that the DLC would be focused on "filling in gaps," and while Assyria, Qajar, Bulgaria and even sort of Carthage (still closer to Songhai than Axum) fit the bill, the lineup for Asia... confuses me. Another leader associated with India, a Silla still destined to end up as Japan, I suppose Dai Viet is more cohesive for the old SEA path than Majapahit but I don't think the path was really that rough, and Nepal is really rather near Mughal and Siam and Qing, though with so much more added to the area I guess it's sort of needed... I'm sure they'll be interesting gameplay wise, in a vacuum I would be happy to see all of them, and there are probably a lot of people really happy with this even outside that theoretical vacuum, but I was kinda hoping that we'd get something to help out the Americas or Hawai'i other than another South American leader to be in charge of Mexico.

Yes, I was definitely really looking forward to Tonga just so Hawai'i didn't have to come from Mississippians and Khmer.

Sad that we didn’t get Tonga. Also, no Goths either. I still think they’ll appear eventually, though.

Anyway, it’s remarkable how they’re holding back major names while releasing more unexpected ones. I mean, who would have expected Nepal and Bulgaria now?

It seems like they want to extend the game’s longevity by gradually releasing the big names. Maybe civilizations like the Ottomans, Aztecs, and Babylon won’t be added anytime soon.

On a plus side, maybe they'll have more interesting designs when they arrive, as expansion civs often do.

they're really adding two more South Asian civs to the game...

glad we're seeing more MENA civs added to the game, but they're now 4-1-1 from era to era. at least they've got a modern civ now.

still just 3 Sub-Saharan Africa civs, which is disappointing.

I'm surprised they'd run with a pack of Dai Vet - Assyria - Silla - Qajar. Assyria's a big-ish name, but I don't think any of those civs will move units on the scale of, say, Ottomans, Zulu, Aztec, or Portugal

Britain, Carthage, and Assyria are probably enough Famous Civs to promote these packs. Plus Genghis Khan. This game is going to have a long tail, so it's best to spread the Famous ones out.

biggest gaps in my view:
  • Antiquity Europe, with 0 civs north of the Mediterranean
  • Mid East & North Africa, with only 1 civ in each of the Exploration & Modern eras
  • Africa in general. 3 SSA civs across all eras is pretty lousy, especially when South Asia now has 8 civs
  • South America, with only 1 civ so far

You're right, and those two continents have the most disconnected historical paths. Maybe they're planning to release themed DLCs for Latin America and Africa, with a touch of Oceania featuring Tonga? I really hope so.

ok..the civ player part of me: Absolutely awesome, Middle east eating good.

the Aztec enjoyer part of me: pre hispanic civs havent been this in shambles since the Spanish conquest.

I would certainly hope so, I was expeting the DLC's to sprinkle a bit of everything, I guess they are going to be way more geographically focused than we believed originally.

I did want to see dlc packs focused on specific regions similar to what humankind did
