Crossroads of the World and Right to Rule DLC - themed predictions based on what we know

As I wrote in the thread for Polygon article, there's still a significant chance of Polygon messing the order of civs. So, the wonders theory could still stand and CotW could include:
  • Silla, Antiquity (Emille Bell)
  • Assyria, Antiquity (Dur-Sharrukin)
  • Nepal, Antiquity (Nalanda)
  • Britain, Modern (Oxford University)
EDIT: My main argument pro is what I found it really strange to include full wonders into pack and not advertise it everywhere.

yes, I agree we'll see 3x for each of these. but I also don't think the overall enthusiasm for Silla Korea matches that of mainstay civs like Aztec & Zulu. I also think the play for specific markets works better in base game or expansion, as opposed to a civ pack like this one (and especially when you're getting 1/3 of a Korea playthrough out of it, not the whole thing)
I'm quite excited for Silla actually.. It gets a lot less attention than Goryeo and Joseon (which I assume will be the Exploration and Modern age civs).

But you do have a point in it only being 1/3 of a Korea playthrough.. It would probably not make good business sense to make a DLC only with Korean civs (because it would potentially appeal to fewer people than a geographical spread of civs), but I still really like the idea. I don't mind the Civ switching in general, but I definitely think I'm gonna have more fun following three successive nations from the same place rather than going all over the map. And there are only two of those "tracks" in the game currently (China and (sort of) India).

I would imagine a cothon is a harbor in ancient Carthage, that Carthage must have been filled with these structures. That is why I'm asking if we know of a "Great Cothon" or something similar, because if not, it sounds more like a piece of unique infrastructure than a wonder.
There is one famous in Carthage though, that can still be seen clearly. It would make a good wonder. And I think the most likely one for Carthage, just because it’s the city’s most famous feature now and in reconstructions. Afaik, the Romans were very serious in destroying the major temples and the citadel, so that there are hardly traces of these potential wonders left.

A Cothon could be a unique improvement as well, but maybe we are in for a civ that is named Carthage, but includes Phoenicia and a unique trade post infrastructure of some sort that can be built by a naval unit outside your territory? Or Carthage could receive a unique palace/city hall, which is an option that we haven‘t seen yet.

I would love the Crystal Palace, a great industrial, scientific, cultural wonder and a perfect encapsulation of the age. I am also biased, as I live in south London and the remains of the park is one of my favourite spots, complete with charmingly antiquated depictions of dinosaurs, which would look just lovely on the wonder tile…

If you believe Burma would make it, then I guess Dai Viet is the one taking its place, not Nepal, no?
Dai Viet having anything with Burma is like saying Russia is a replacement for Japan for they share a border.

Bulgaria is a bit of a strange choice to me.

There's nothing particularly wrong with Bulgaria, though.
Civ 7 has nothing dealing with Eastern Europe except for the abovementioned.
Bulgarian is the originator of OCS and Bulgaria the birthplace of Cyrillic.
And while there are stories worth telling about the whole Bulgars-Bulgarians interaction at the end of the day no one here nor in the audience cares. What they do care about is music and Bulgaria is the origin of Witcher's soundtrack. You guys are mad suckers for that kind of stuff. :goodjob:

Bulgaria is a great choice! And it’s also one that sits well between Greece and Russia for the people that insist on historical paths.

The only shame is that its inclusion might mean that Exploration Age Rome will take a while, as Bulgaria can occupy the spot of the orthodox exploration era civ.

One of the factors in choosing which civs are going to be in the game is geographical representation, especially for regions outside of Europe. Civ4 was the first time SEA had a representative, and except for the Khmer and Indonesia pack in Civ6 which was meant to add the SEA representatives Civ6 was lacking up to that point, there has not been any expansion or DLC packs with more than 1 SEA civ. This checkboxing can be seen with other underrepresented areas, like Africa, so it is fair to say Burma isn't there because the pack has already had 1 representative from that region

Maybe the Wonder Pack includes the wonders associated with the new civs?

I still stand by my hypothesis: the “wonder pack” highlighted in the photo describes the wonders associated with the new civs, that will be made available in addition to those “4 new wonders” (natural for COTW, world for RTR) mentioned in the row above.

Sure, but that sort of thinking makes Russia an East Asian representative because Vladivostok.
Vietnamese culture is alien to SEA much like Europeans are to the Americas, Australia and South Africa (and Russians Central + East Asia) hence why I don't really see them at all in the same bucket.
Otherwise, you could argue to swap Shawnee for French Canada (Exploration). NA rep for NA rep, right? Surely you can tell that European colonies and Native American peoples are not equally interchangeable despite sharing the same geographic area. The Mongols vs China/Korea/Vietnam. South African Republic and Rhodesia as equally representative of sub-saharan Africa as Nigeria and Ethiopia.

Taking Russia as an example in this situation is simply reductive.
Since the studio is based in North America, I think the devs are familiar enough with pre-colonial and post-colonial differences. But if you're telling that two civs within close proximity, both belong to a largely ignored part in the Civ franchise until quite recently, both could fit within the same Age in terms of gameplay, and the fact that only one of them makes it in the game in a pack of only 4 civs has nothing to do with their proximity, alright, you're entitled to your opinion, I don't buy it.

IIRC, people have seen Safavids as an Exploration Age IP. Not a direct confirmation per se, but an interesting implication nonetheless.
It would be awesome to have the Timurid instead for the Exploration Era. The Qajars and Safavids are too similar, imho, to be shown as separate civilizations. The Timurids could work as the "Persian representation" for the Exploration Era, even if the rulling class wasn't exactly Persian or Iranian, but they ruled Persia as one of their many dynasties. They could aslo transition into the Mughals and the Qajars in the Modern Era.

As much as I’d love to have a Safavid civ for once, this is a very neat suggestion. But please include Tamerlane or Shah Rukh as leaders as well…

But then YouTube would allow the name of the Timurid capital to be spoken out loud…

I do care, I'd personally been hoping for the inclusion of Bulgaria since Civ5.

That's the sort of things for which responsible marketing people could be fired on a spot. Including large pieces of content into DLC and mentioning it in actual promo materials is something extremely bad. Both Steam text and Firaxis FAQ don't mention those wonders.

I'll also accept the Great Exhibition should Firaxis not go in for your (excellent) suggestion

Nepal is as Tibetan as India or China is Tibetan. Tibet is its own culture and has its own history.
Didn‘t my whole post say how Nepal isn‘t Tibet (aside from the Mustang example)? Obviously, Tibet also isn‘t just one of its neighbors.

I wanted to express that I wishes for both, and I‘m happy to see one of them finally making the cut.
