Crusade! - "Middle Ages" scenario

Who here is the History Buff? What really happened here in the Crusades? And what religion was the Byzantines? Orthodox, Christian, and Muslim? or was I the mightiest Christians who was destroyed by other Christians? Having done a little reading on this subject has made me more confused.

Hey,

The Crusades were a series of military conflicts of a religious character waged by Christians during 1095–1291, most of which were sanctioned by the Pope in the name of Christendom. The Crusades originally had the goal of recapturing Jerusalem and the sacred "Holy Land" from Muslim rule and were originally launched in response to a call from the Eastern Orthodox Byzantine Empire for help against the expansion of the Muslim Seljuq dynasty into Anatolia.

So I am Christian or have a common desire to remove Muslim control from Jerusalem.

The Crusades an alternative view point

The overview of the crusades posted here is a bit like Klingon justice, a unique point of view.

In reality it was about land, power and money and getting rid of the trouble makers at home. In fact the Muslims seem to hold the moral high ground especially during the time of Saladin . Muslims even protected Christians from other Christians at times and were often more merciful in their treatment of captives though they could also be as cruel as the enemy.

Culturally I was predisposed to be on the side of the Crusaders, however after reading an excellent book (the cross & the crescent?) on the subject you can’t help but have your sympathies with the Muslims. Saladin is essentially an Arab El Cid. Alternatively imagine an alternative Pony Wars(?) where the Native Americans ultimately drive the white man back into the sea.

The movie Kingdom of Heaven gives a good feel for the motivations of the two sides, though the actual story is fictional the events are accurate(as far as movies can be accurate) including the Horns of Hattin where you will see a Christian relic (the True Cross) carried to war, and the final siege of Jerusalem. The historical characters shown are however very much Hollywood versions.

Now this is a game and there is no need to slavishly try to follow history, we may even witness the bizarre sight of Vikings on Jerusalem’s streets, or a Byzantine Empire that reaches to the English Channel. A few things that are all too apparent to me are ...

Jerusalem is a drop off point for big VP items
Jerusalem is a VP location :shifty:
Jerusalem is my capital

BTW anyone seen any barbarians recently? :mischief:

Hey,

GPS to Eclipse4449.

Bremen
The Germans, cut badly by heathen axes, rallied to the fray.
The attack on the city of Bremen lost the German Archers to
vile spearmen. But the vetern German Swordsmen defeated the
spearmen(now elite).
The surviving Alfred's Holy Avengers(elite 2/5) advanced
screaming their warcry :aargh: "Kein Himmel für Heiden" against the
elite Berserker of the pagans. There souls were
sent to Hell!!! More German Swordsmen have came to Bremen.

Vorbasse
The surviving German Swordsmen at Vorbasse hearing of the
Alfred's Holy Avengers victory at Bremen, destoryed a spearmen
& join in the ranks of Alfred's Holy Avengers.
Bremen_001.jpg

German archer 3/3 vs spearman -1 (became elite 4/5)
German vet. swordsman - 2 vs Elite Spearman -1
Alfred's Holy Avengers(2/5 before attack) vs Elite Berserker -1
German vet. swordsman -1 (became Elite) vs spearman

You all know that he is being  sarcastic.

You're the one person we didn't need to hold Jerusalem. :faint:

@Eclipse4449. The history channel basically stated the The Byzantine Empire was very Machiavellian. Any deal that would help the Empire. Dealt with both Muslims & Crusader. Switching sides & double dealings. Selling horses to the Crusaders while selling grain to the Muslims.
Sold information to both sides. Didn't really care who had Jerusalem.
Got to love them!!! :D

Thank you for taking the time to fill me in here, its been along time since history class and don't recall seeing a documentary on this. Both comments are very appreciated!
I have no desire to follow actual History of not, I'll just taking one turn at a time and see what transpires. Like its been said many times over, can you send the AZTECS to Alpha Centauri.

This is a sort of a poll, please help me out here.

I hope Quarky is still listening in here too.

Please pm me with reply:please:

Have you Downloaded any of the Huge(file size) Mods created by users here at Cifanatics or elsewhere?

Have you played any of them and/or recommend them?

Your feelings of playing a pbem scenario that you control several Leaders, possibly close together or spread out threw out the map. Example; you play your 1st turn and hit continue after each of your turns until its the next players turn then save and exit and send it off.

Are you playing Civ4 and Warlords yet? And user created Mods here also.

Ah the Frankfurt defense :yup: :rotfl:
Well you do like a challenge don't you? Now hush whilst I go defend Rome ;)

It did ultimately backfire on them as the Ottoman mercenaries they hired gathered intelligence which helped in the conquest of Byzantium whilst the Christians looked the other way.

Not really relevant to this scenario but many Christians found Ottoman rule much more tolerant than rule from 'Christian' empires. As long as people paid their taxes the Sultan's policy was live and let live for the occupied territories.

How does this translate to PBEM? (maximum of 8 civs)
dunno
will fire up a test run tonight, see what happens.

-----------

ok, fired up an 8 player game of El Justos AoI,
i was able to start an 8 player game.
the rest of the civs went missing.

we need to find a mod that will have either settler build capabilities or a limited number of civs.

i will see what can be done.

Do you guys have the bottom path? Conquest folder in a Conquest folder?

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Scenarios
and

Possibilities include changing ownership of some of the established cities. I've not downloaded this so it's difficult to judge and you need to decide which civs to leave in which is something only experience with the scenario can help with.
