Hi all,

I've finished my Crusader States scenario, that many of you have been kind enough to offer me advice on.
The files you need to download are:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/Crusader States1.zip
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/Crusader States2.zip
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/Crusader States3.zip

The read me file is in Crusader States1.zip.

The Crusader States scenario is set in the early 12th Century in the east Mediterranean.
The map size is 80x160

You can play any one of 16 civilisations:
The Knights Hospitaller
The Knights Templar
The Assassins
The Kingdom of Jerusalem
The County of Edessa
The Principality of Antioch
The County of Tripoli
The Seljuks of Rum (Turks)
The Fatimid Caliphate (Egypt)
Damascus
Aleppo
Homs
Hama
Cilician Armenia
The Byzantine province of Attalia
The Byzantine province of Cyprus

I will post a screenshot as soon as I can start up Photoshop (i.e. once i've finished watching Buffy :) )

Big thank you to Pdescobar, Elsihe and Don Quixote for all their help (Don Quixote going so far as to type up a tutorial for me!)

hope you like it,

Raymond

you've probably noticed that the hyperlink in the posts above get interrupted after the word crusader due to the space. Nice feature huh?
Just copy the URL to the browser address box and it'll be fine.

I really liked this scenario! It was definitely worth downloading!

Still, I have some comments. Regarding balance, I think that Jerusalem is far too dominant. The game starts in 1100, one year after the end of the first crusade, and (actually) just before the era of the crusading orders. If one sees the latter as separate entities, the expansion of Jerusalem from that point on was limited. In general, the crusaders states tended to be on the defensive between the actual crusades. :) In the scenario, lots of unsupportable units force the player to be very aggressive from the very start. From a player's perspective, such a strong bias towards a certaing strategy makes, imho, the scenario less enjoyable.

There were also some minor bugs. The Fatimid Caliphate can for instance build a 1.1.2 Cleopatra unit (for free). :) When playing the Hospitallers I had some dialog problems. Jerusalem, Tripoli, and Antioch were saying things like ; Jerusalem = AI's people (ADJ). Sometimes, the icons in the civilopedia and on the science advisor screen also looked funny.

Maybe this could be something for the next version?

Thank you for the feedback :goodjob:

I picked 1100 simply because it was a round number :)

That's a fair comment. The main reason i gave the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem so many units (not actually that many - i think it averages 2 per city) was because in the playtests I did before this the Kingdon of Jerusalem kept getting walked over by the Fatimids and Damascus.

"There were also some minor bugs. The Fatimid Caliphate can for instance build a 1.1.2 Cleopatra unit (for free)."

Sorry. Must have missed that in the editor. It's about a 30 second fix.

"When playing the Hospitallers I had some dialog problems. Jerusalem, Tripoli, and Antioch were saying things like ; Jerusalem = AI's people (ADJ)."

That is REALLY weird. I'm almost certain that my scenario does not have a customised diplomacy.txt file (what you're referring to is an issue with the diplomacy.txt file), which means that it is getting all that sort of info from your default diplomacy.txt file that gets put on your computer when you install the game.
Sorry, but I have no idea how to fix that. I didn't notice it on my computer. I'm wondering if the default diplomacy.txt file has become corrupted somehow? At any rate if this is the only scenario you're ever had that happen in I would just put it down to something weird with my scenario and not worry about it any more. Sorry I can't be more helpful on that one.

cheers,

Raymond

 'Tis a very good scenario.

The map looks great. It reminds me a map I've made for civ2...
:king:
A shame I can't play this scn.
The links do not seem to be working anyway.

The map is good and city placement and civs are fairly good too.
Only problem is that it stops when I try to load, looking for a caliph.pcx....
