CTIV-2: The Money Game

Got it and will continue the peaceful expansion of the now puny but soon commercially mighty Chinese.

1000 BC
Beijing begins: Settler
Comment: Start a settler in Beijing. Might as well go get those fish

Turn 77 (975 BC)
Comment: Our exploring work boat has come to the end of the line to the east

950 BC

925 BC
Tech learned: Sailing
Shanghai finishes: Barracks

900 BC
Shanghai begins: Lighthouse

825 BC
Tech learned: Mysticism

800 BC
Beijing finishes: Settler

775 BC
Beijing begins: Galley
Beijing begins: Warrior

750 BC
Beijing begins: Work Boat
Beijing begins: Galley
Shanghai begins: Warrior

Fiddled the citizens at Beijing to get 0 growth at maximum commerce and hammers. It involves using a citizen specialist, but the alternative of working the hill gives the same build time.

The settler is currently unescorted but can retreat to the safety of Beijing if necessary. There is a warrior coming up from Shanghai to replace the Beijing garrison.

Hey gang,

I grabbed the game. Haven't started yet. Have we decided where to put the next city? I'm guessing one of the 3 tiles that works the fishes right away.

Well, we don't have a galley yet, so we can't get over there (Bede's turnlog disagrees heartily with what's happening in the game  ) ... so for now I think we need a fishing village (and a canal through the continent for when Beijing makes one)

Actually with two fishes and a lighthouse, it should grow pretty quickly ... it just won't build much :crazyeye:

My vote is a canal city right smack between the two fishes.

BTW, how many turns until a galley is complete?

Right now, infinite, as there isn't one being built. I don't think one is necessary until we get another settler in the pipeline, but we'll see.

Check Bede's 750 BC log. Beijing is now working on a galley.

Well, as I already said:

Look at the screenshot: Beijing is working on a library, and has been for a while (it'll be done in 3 turns). I'm guessing the turnlog entries are erroneous.

Turn 0 -- 750 BC

I've decided to build the next city on the tile that's below the fishes (towards Beijing). I'm doing this in order to maximize the usable spaces. Yes, it'll be sharing more with Beijing, but I think minimal waste of tiles is a worthier goal. Plus it'll make the trip to the canal quicker.

After Meditation, I'm going to work on The Wheel and Pottery (remember, we have to research techs on the beeline to Banking, but it doesn't have to be in the order specified when you click on Banking)

Turn 1 -- 725 BC

The Oracle has been built in a far away land

The AI agrees with my city placement. I can't decide if that's good or bad ...

Guangzhou is built. Workboat casts its nets.

Turn 2 -- 700 BC
:coffee:

Turn 3 -- 675 BC

Meditation is in. Start The Wheel (due in 2).
Beijing builds Library, starts Worker (due in 9). I fire the Citizen and work a commerce tile. Once Worker finishes, probably should build Galley

Science down to 90% so we can sit at positive income for a little while.

Turn 4 -- 650 BC
:coffee:

Turn 5 -- 625 BC
The Wheel > Pottery, due in 2.

Turn 6 -- 600 BC
:coffee:

Turn 7 -- 575 BC
Pottery > Bronze Working, due in 4.

Shanghai completes Lighthouse > Obelisk (for the piggies, due in 7).

Guangzhou is now guarded from the Polar Bear menace.

Turn 8 -- 550 BC

:coffee:

Turn 9 -- 525 BC
Stonehenge has been built in a far away land.

Turn 10 -- 500 BC

:coffee:

Ok, except for the city, not much happening. Once Guangzhou hits 3 you might want to hire a citizen to get the Lighthouse built faster...or revolt to slavery next turn and whip it.

After the Worker and Obelisks are done, probably should think about Settler and Galley (build the Settler in Beijing I would think).

Since Stone is present, we may want to use our "free to research" choice this beeline on Masonry.

Here's the save:

Sorry for all the confusion, but I forgot to edit out my dithering from the log.

@afpunk: Do you want to swap with me? If you don't play until late New Year's Day than I won't be able to play until the 4th. The 1st thru the 3rd will be extremely busy for me. Tomorrow is no problem at all so it actually works out much better for both of us if we swap this turn.

Do you mind?

Sorry Methos, I didn't check back in to the thread until right before I played my turns.

Looks like a nice, easy turnset ahead of me.

475BC

Bronze Working comes in, start on Priesthood.
There's copper on the southern Island
I revolt to slavery, since one of our 3 towns is in pretty desperate need of the whip

425BC

Priesthood comes in. My tech choices are Metal Casting, Monarchy, or an off the line, most likely Masonry. I go with Metal Casting. I think this being an Archipelago and us being financial, getting the Colossus would be a good move.

Beijing finishes its worker, and I start it on a settler. Worker goes to hook up the horses.

375BC

Somebody needs to set this guy straight.

CTIV-2Tacitus.JPG

Shanghai completes its Obelisk and starts work on a galley.

300BC

Guangzhou grows to size 4 and the lighthouse is whipped.

275BC

Guangzhou finishes its lighthouse and I have it start on a granary--an essential building in a whipping city.
Confuscianism is FIDAL.

Where to go from here:
We will soon have a settler and a galley to send him on his way. Before this set of turns, I would've said go for the eastern island. However, with the copper to the south, I'd recommend the settler settle on the plains square on the southern isle. That location will be able to support both the mined copper and one of the desert hills, and grow up to the number of water squares. Not a horrible city after all.

CTIV-2southdotmap.JPG

Be sure to bring out the whip whenever you can in Guangzhou. Whip the Granary, whip a forge, whip an obelisk. Don't stop!

Researching Masonry next might be a good idea. A few extra hammers a turn in Beijing would help quite a bit.

Getting that copper on line is key. Its almost AD times and we still only have warriors. Axeman/Spearman would be a big help.
