Situation Assessment: I start by taking a look at our diplomatic situation to try and figure out a way to get a UN victory out of this game. I agree with ChrTh that the only way it is going to happen is if our opponent is Khan, rather than Capac. Capac, however, is pleased with both us and Khan. So, in order to make sure Capac votes for us, we would need to damage that relationship. The best way to do that, of course, is to incite a war. Unfortunately, neither Khan nor Capac are interested in a war at the moment (the options are red-lined in the trading screen).
Short of war, the only other way to get Khan on the ballot is to gift him a sizeable city or two. This, of course, is frought with risk. If Caesar and Capac both vote for us, we would win this game. However, both of these folks are also pleased with Khan and could very well vote for him, instead; in which case we would be snatching defeat from the mouth of victory. Personally, I don't believe this idea is worth the risk.
We have a 650 point lead over Caesar with only 20 turns remaining. With a time victory, this should be a quite 10 turns.
On a side note, did anyone notice the aquaduct at New Shanghai? Its going across the channel to pull water out of a desert hill.
Turn 0 - 2010AD: Since the research slider is turned off, we are just swimming in gold. A few of the builds have already been cash rushed, but I go ahead and rush a few more items. I also upgrade our last Galleon to a Transport.
I decide to send our Marines northward, for no other reason than to have a look around. What should they find? That Settler that Methos discovered, however many turns ago, is still on that island!
Turn 1 - 2011AD: Guangzhou completes a University and starts a Drydock. The Theatre in Nanjing is complete and work is begun on a Battleship. Xian completes a Tank and starts on a Submarine. New Shanghai completes its Market and begins a Bank. Wow, this city sure is back, bigger and better than ever! Ningbo completes its Granary and starts on a Forge. Baoding also completes its Granary but starts a Bank.
Meanwhile, Kaifeng completes its Destroyer and resumes work on its Bank. And, Beijing trains our 4
th Spy and resumes work on the Hollywood wonder.
Then, it is time for UN elections. I decide to put Universal Suffrage up for a vote. I noticed that Capac was running Heriditary Rule, so switching civics may give him some happiness problems.
Since we have open borders with Capac, I sail into his waters. So far, all of his cities are being defended by Infantry, with a Machine Gunner or two thrown in for good measure.
IBT: Kahn completes the Apollo Program. Should someone tell him there isn't enough time to launch a space ship?
Turn 2 - 2012AD: Hangzhou completes a Marine and starts a Submarine. Shandong completes a Work Boat and starts a Bank.
The vote for Universal Suffrage fails, as nobody but us voted for it. Oh well.
Turn 3 - 2013AD: Xian completes a Submarine and starts on a Destroyer.
One of our spies has sent an intel report back on the Incan capitol:
My first thought on seeing this screen was to sell Capac Industrialism, since he is only 1 turn away from learning it himself. Unfortunately, Firaxis thought about this possibility and Industrialism isn't on the list of techs to trade.
IBT: Khan gives us a call and asks for open borders. I go ahead and give it to him.
Turn 4 - 2014AD: Guangzhou completes a Drydock and begins a Destroyer. Hangzhou completes a Submarine and resumes Marine training.
Since we now have open borders with Khan, I sail our Marines to Khan's capitol to have a look at his troops. An Amphibous invasion would be tough with all of those Destroyers. But, I see surprisingly few combat ready ground troops.
IBT: I agree to Isabella's request for open borders.
Turn 5 - 2015AD: We've got 5K in the bank. It will cost 2K to rush the Hollywood. As there really isn't that much to spend the money on, I go ahead and rush it. The power graph shows us in 2
nd with Khan having a comfortable lead on us.
Turn 6 - 2016AD: Hollywood is complete in Beijing. We definitely will not have any happiness problems now. It will take Beijing 3 turns to move the Palace back. I also preempt the Destroyer build in Xian for the Forbidden Palace. IIRC, building this was part of our variant.
Kaifeng completes its Bank and begins a Courthouse. It is currently paying 11gpt in city maintenance.
Turn 7 - 2017AD: Hangzhou completes a Marine and starts on the Heroic Epic. Shandong completes its Bank and starts on a Courthouse. New Shanghai also completes a Bank and starts on a Grocer.
Since we are back up to 5000 gold again, I go ahead and spend 500 gold to rush the Palace and Forbidden Palace. Ahhhh, might as well buy a couple of ships while I'm at it ...
IBT: Khan completes his first SS Casing. With 12 turns left, he is officially leading the space race!
Turn 8 - 2018AD: Well, our palace is back in Beijing, so we start on the Pentagon, next. Guangzhou completes its Destroyer and starts a Marine. Nanjing completes its Battleship and starts another one. A Grocer is built in Macau and it starts on a Tank.
Turn 9 - 2019AD: The Heroic Epic is built in Hangzhou and Marine training is able to resume.
The vote for UN Secretary General comes up. We have 212 of the 271 votes that are needed to win election.
Meanwhile, our Spy has sabotaged one of Khan's Ivory sources. He is currently giving Ivory to Capac in return for Horses. Our other spy in Mongolia sends back this intel report of one of Khan's cities:
Turn 10 - 2020AD: Well, it looks like we missed out on the Pentagon. I start Beijing on a Bank, instead. Chengdu finishes its Marine and starts on a Grocer. Shandong completes its Courthouse and also starts a Grocer. Kaifeng also completes its Courthouse and begins a Market. We don't really need the money, but these builds are required due to our variant.
In diplomatic news, Caesar votes for us to be UN SecGen allowing us to be re-elected.
Meanwhile, Kahn catches one of our spies. The other spy is able to disconnect his second ivory source. This should put an end to his trading with Capac.
Six of our Marines are loaded on Transports outside of Khan's capitol if he starts anything over this spy. There is also a couple of Destroyers, the Submarines, and a Battleship is en route. My guess, though, is he will let it slide this time.
10 Turns are remaining. Our score lead has increased to almost 800 points. Assuming we don't lose anymore cities, this game is in the bag. Cash is definitely not a problem. We've got almost 6K in the bank and are accumulating it at just over 1K per turn. I leave you with the demographics screenshot:
I think we've done pretty well for ourselves in this game. This has certainly been a fun one!
