CTIV-6: Germs! Germs Everywhere!

We have a GE in Sparta? That means we have 2, since we have one in Rome as well.

Three Gorges seems like a decent plan. Without Kremlin its not worth cash rushing wonders. And we're probably going to need to save every penny we can to sabotage England. Anything she builds in London is going to be really expensive to sabotage, she has about a billion units in there.

I would build Scotland Yard in Pharsalos while three gorges runs in Rome. Have Antium pump out troops, because if we keep letting our soldiers ranking drop, we're going to get blindsided by Kublai. While we can handle it, that war would do nothing besides slow us down at this point, we don't need any more cities, because they'd take too long to make productive. Then Ironworks in whichever of those two cities is free to build it first.

Get spies in England asap. Sabotage Apollo if its not done yet, otherwise work on disconnecting resources and sabotaging any big parts she builds in smaller cities. We really need all the production we can get, we need to build internet, apolo, and I'd like the elevator for denial purposes. And I wouldn't tie up the major production centers with space part builds until we're sure we're in it. Let the crappy towns pump out 13 turn casings so we can focus on building important stuff in the cities with actual production capacity.

All that, and we'll still be waving to Liz from her spaceship probably.

I have the save now, and am only going to play 6 turns to even up the turn count and also to let more people discuss about the priest and 3 gorges/GE idea...

As i said, i didn't want to play too much so i stopped @ 1940. Also, i figure every town should get a forge and factory since they'll all get a power plant and could use the extra prod. Also, remember observatories are needed for lavratories

Got it. Might play tonight...

Hey, I'm back now. (from Argentina) However, I'm a bit out of the loop as far as this SG goes. Wouldn't want to mess it up, you know. Maybe pencil me in for turns in a few days or so? So I can get caught up on what's happened. Or I could play now and just use Gaspar~'s handy reference guide of "what to do know" :) Let me know what's best.

Welcome back! I don't feel like shuffling the roster around so you can after Gaspar~.

Turn 0 -- 1940 AD

Goals for this turn: 3 Gorges and Scotland Yard

Cancel Pharsalos' Tank and start Scotland Yard there.

Convert Rome's 3 Scientists to Engineers. 3 Gorges in 10.
Great Prophet merged to Rome as a Super-Specialist. 3 Gorges in 9.

Great Person due in Shangian next turn. Golden Age to follow.

Science has to drop to 60% to keep us in positive gold.

We need Radio. I trade Cathy Ecology for Radio and her treasury (360 gold). There's a risk she'll trade it to Elizabeth, but I don't see a choice. We'll be able to research Computers during the Golden Age and that's the only Tech before Fiber Optics. Science back to 70%.

Here's to good luck.

Turn 1 -- 1941 AD

Artillery is in, start Computers due in 8 (for now).

Antium: Factory > Tank
Shangian: Forge > Factory

We get a Great Scientist in Shangian. Golden Age started. 3 Gorges and Computers both due in 7 at 60% science (+71/turn).

Ok, we can now see who has what: Elizabeth has Rocketry, Computers, and Mass Media. Kublai and Toku both have Rocketry. Elizabeth still doesn't have Ecology, but she does have Fission.

Turn 2 -- 1942 AD

Athens: Drydock > Bank

Turn 3 -- 1943 AD

Cumae: Recycling Center > Forge
Antium: Tank > Tank

Elizabeth completes 2 Casings. Still doesn't have Ecology.

Turn 4 -- 1944 AD ... a year that will live in infamy ...

Ummm ... uhhh ...

Toku cancels Defensive Pact. Followed by Kublai Khan attacking us  Let's see ...
Our destroyer kills a destroyer before succumbing to another one.
Kublai artillery pounds the hell out of Sparta before taking it.
We lose 2 workers.

Well, this is going to take some thinking through ...

Delphi: Observatory > Machine Gun.

Wait! Toku does declare war on Kublai! :crazyeye: The problem is Toku has to go through us to get to him, and I don't know how seriously he'll take this.

On the plus side, Cathy will now trade with us ... so I can get Gold for Corn. Hey, Cumae is now happy!

In the meantime, Russia captures Philadelphia.

I drop Science to 60% and Culture to 10%. I try to build up the troops in the border cities as best I can, but Kublai has significant troops in our territory:
ctiv6c5ub.jpg

I defeat another of Kublai destroyers and pillage his fishing boats.

So I guess the question is, how fast can Toku get his troops here?

Turn 5 -- 1945 AD

Destroyers go 1 and 1.

Looks like we have some pillaging, no city attacks.

Antium: Tank > Machine Gun
Neapolis: Recycling Center > Machine Gun
Shangian: Factory > Tank
Samarkand: Hospital > Infantry
Athens: Bank > Infantry
Thermopylae: Factory > Infantry

Should've brought a book for the all the pillaging reports ... but on the plus side, here comes the Cavalry!
ctiv6d2ql.jpg

Oh great, Elizabeth has started a Golden Age ... sigh ... also completes another Casing.

We're about to lose our Aluminum...not looking good for our heroes.

Turn 6 -- 1946 AD

Samarkand has been restored to its ancestral lands ... however Athens holds on with much killing of SAM Infantry by defending Machine Guns.

Lots more pillaging.

Antium: Machine Gun > Tank

Kill a couple of Cavalry without losses. Tank takes out SAM Infantry, leaving Pharsalos alone.
Lose an Infantry but kill an Artillery.

I am of the suspicion we're about to lose Thermopylae ...

Turn 7 -- 1947 AD

Athens and Thermopylae are attacked, but not a lot.

Destroyer kills a Destroyer.

Pharsalos: Scotland Yard > Tank

Tank takes out a couple of Cavalry, as does a Grenadier.

On the losing to Elizabeth front, she has researched Flight (nice). Still doesn't have Ecology.

Turn 8 -- 1948 AD

Lose a destroyer.

Kublai keeps throwing troops at Athens, and they keep dying. Thermopylae and Athens continue to hold on.

Computers is in, start Fiber Optics. Due in 9 (that's in Golden Age years)

3 Gorges is built!

Rome starts a Tank
Antium: Tank > Infantry
Shangian: Tank > Infantry
Delphi: Machine Gun > Infantry
Athens: Infantry > Tank

In other world news, Elizabeth completes her 4th casing, and Washington falls! Roosevelt is on his last legs.

The good news is, Elizabeth doesn't have Fiber Optics. The bad news is, she has Robotics.

Pick off some stray troops.

Turn 9 -- 1949 AD

Kublai Khan continues to throw troops away at Athens and Thermopylae.

Rome: Tank > Machine Gun
Antium: Infantry > Tank
Cumae: Forge > Factory
Shangian: Infantry > Machine Gun
Pharsalos: Tank > Infantry
Thermopylae: Infantry > Machine GUn
Cornith: Harbor > Machine Gun

Our Golden Age is over. Fiber Optics now due in 10.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words:
ctiv6e5mj.jpg

In other words, we've eliminated all the invaders except for the troops in/outside Samarkand. Kublai's big mistake? Attacking walled cities defended by machine guns. Over and over again.

Turn 10 -- 1950 AD

Kill off SAM Infantry hanging around Samarkand.

:coffee:

Ok, who's up for a counter-attack? Samarkand is mostly defended by Artillery and Cavalry. Sparta has a couple SAM Infantry and Cavalry.

Suicide Squad....ATTACK!!!!

:goodjob:

I do want to add: I don't think Sparta is worth retaking. Samarkand, yes, because it's in our cultural boundaries, but Sparta was a lost cause to begin with. Now, if we press the war (not necessarily a good idea--in fact, I'd give him something to stop fighting us so we can focus on Liz) and take out the cities behind Sparta, it could be worth it, but I don't think so.

I agree. We need to concentrate hard on the Space Race and if anything, warring against Elizabeth would be a better idea to slow her down a little (not a serious war...just a little one to keep her occupied). I'm happy to pull out of the war and let Toku get on with smacking Kublai around. As well all know, an AI at war will concentrate on war and nothing else...her Space Race will be halted, but us, being people, can defend and carry on our Space Race.

Any chance we can get someone else to attack Lizzy?

I still think throwing a nuke or two in her direction might be an option...

So I couldn't sleep last night and got up again for a relaxing read. And what did I see? That's just typical. First Alex and then Kublai...

I agree that we have to end the war quite soon. Maybe we can take Samarqand back in a few turns. Kublai shouldn't be allowed to keep it. Sparta is a hopeless case anyway.

We need to get Spies over to Lizzy asap. If the costs are always the same, it'll be 200 gold for each attempt to disconnect a resource. So we should plan to have some cash ready in time.

I don't think anybody will ever declare on Lizzy. Cathy and Toku are busy now and won't want to get into another war.

That's a bad situation here... too bad I can't join the fun again :(
I'll have no chance to play until thursday, so probably you may want to skip me... sorry about that, school is hard sometimes.

Probably I'll be able to post in 24h. So, if it's ok for everyone, I Got It :)

Typically enough, I had no internet access yesterday.
Good that mucco could take it after all. :)

Our ISP sorted this one surprisingly fast. They normally need a week to correct their own mistakes.
I should be ok now.
