CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

I am actually surprised at how well we are surviving so far. A lot of that is down to you and the other deity vets chipping in with advice Sirp :) I think everyone in the team can give themselves a big pat on the back for how we have done so far. There have been no disasters and everyone is playing well.

scouting is good, and it will build our warrior base a bit, for "strength" in the AI's eyes (grin).

Does Osaka have a gran ? I can't remeber.... that's another option, otherwise.

First time I read your 2nd sentence I thought you ment Osaka's grandmother . I don't think it has though, that would be good too. But I seriously think we need to know more of our surrounds to make a good dotmap. Sending out a precious settler 'blind' would not be good.

We'll give infoman another 24 hours (mostly because I have another game I'm late in :D )

Hi guys, I will be away for a few days starting tomorrow afternoon getting some . I'll be back saterday night (GMT). Maybe I could swap places with Mad if this speeds up (it might you know...;) ).

edit: That is, if it's okay with you Mad?!

Space, I think we need to skip infoman this turn. Do you want to swap with me and play next, and then I'll play after you?

Let me know, otherwise I'll play tonight (EDT)

Since you were looking for thoughts, hints, tips, advice, etc, I will add this by reiterating some points already mentioned:

What do you guys feel about this idea: let's build some warriors in Osaka to let it grow a bit and will allow scouting our surrounds for good spots to settle?

I agree with your suggestion for a) letting Osaka grow, b) scouting our surrounds, c) having escorts for settlers as they are built, and d) to improve our power in the eyes of the AI.

Good luck :)

Pre-turn:
Our current position (ppl that are easily scared should look away now):
CTR1--Histograph_1790BC.JPG

Optimize Sirp-orange for food. Switch Osaka from Worker to warrior. Press Enter.

IT: nada

1750BC (turn 1):
Kyoto settler -> warrior. Send settler to dark-blue spot accompanied by warrior, leave spear to guard Kyoto.
Worker near Dark green starts roading wheat. Worker near Osaka completes irrigation, starts roading flood plain. Roaming spear N to hill reveals elite/reg American warrior pair and a cow! That turns out a good spot (prolly where the other civ would have started). Eastern warrior NW to mountain. Western warrior S reveals French settler pair.
No trades available.

IT: Barb comes from under the fog near roaming spear.

1725BC (turn 2):
Everybody now has Map Making. Ok, this could be a good trading turn. I will think about this one for a while.
We can buy it from Joan, after some negotiations, together with her TM for WM + 6 gpt + 116g. I like her to get our money to counterbalance the strength of America so I make the deal. She thinks its highway robbery :) but makes the deal. India is broke but will trade his TM for our WM. Before I make the deal I check what our map is worth with Abe. He'll give 4 gold. After I trade with India it's still 4, I make the deal anyway, now he's polite :). Ok so maybe this was :smoke: but Abe *is* expansionist so he'll know a good deal about the map already. At least we're on good terms for the time being. Should make deals cheaper. We have 15 gold and 7 gpt left. Indian lands look good and India is indeed starting to get ahead.
Spear moves E, eastern warrior SW, western E trying to get in the way of the French settler pair.

IT: nothing

1700BC (turn 3):
Roaming spear NE. Eartern warrior E, Western warrior N following the French pair. Barb hut near blue disappears at the approach of our settler pair.

IT: Barb horse attacks roaming spear, wins but doesn't promote :(. France founds Avignon on the river, how appropriate (sur le pont..).

1675BC (turn 4):
Osaka warrior -> worker (Weed?? We need workers!)
Worker starts irrigating the wheat.
Kyoto warrior -> settler
Worker moves to BG.
Settler pair moves on Dark blue spot, America has a complete warrior stack 4 regs and an elite. There's another pair of warriors next to them. Try to buy time (peace) by selling our WM + 24g for his TM it turns him from cautious to polite. In an effort to get some back we trade our WM for TM+1g to both France and India.
France now also has Philo (too expensive).
Eastern warrior E, western warrior E (leaves what is now french terf), spear NE finding coast.
Pray and hit return.

CTR1--Warriorstack.JPG

IT: Phew, the stack moves away from our settler pair. It worries me that Abe is feeling cramped already...

1650BC (turn 5):
Osaka warrior -> settler (warr. moves NE for fog busting pink spots, should return for escort duty)
Worker starts mine on BG.
Dark Blue founded, starts warrior.
warriors E, spear N
check diplo:
America: CoL, Philo, Lit
France: Philo
India: CoL, Philo, Lit
Can buy Lit from India but France is almost broke but she has Philo and her WM, which prolly would make the fog busting unnecessary, hmmm. Ok, let's try that:
WM+8gpt+12g to Ghandi for Literature
Literature to Joan for Philosophy + TM + 1g
So we again have tech parity but at a price: we have 4gold and 2gpt.
Pray for Dark Blue and press enter:

IT: America establishes embassy, :goodjob:, that's good for Abe's attitude. He leaves Dark Blue unharmed.

1625BC (turn 6):
Roaming spear NW, finds barb settlement. Fog buster W. East warr. S, West warr. E.

IT: French kill barb village.

1600BC (turn 7):
Roaming spear NW. Fog buster N. East warr. S, West warr. N, leaving what is now Indian terf.
Diplo check:
All know CoL now, but that's the only thing they have up on us, Poly still in 23 (ouch). It's too expensive.

IT: Joan offers TM for TM+1, we say ok

1575BC (turn 8):
Kyoto grows and goes in disorder, Aiaiaiai :whipped:, lux to 20%
Whip temple in Sirp-orange.
Worker near Dark Green north to road+irrigate plains.

IT: nada

1550BC (turn 9):
Sirp-orange temple -> barracks
Dark Green worker -> warrior
New worker east to build road for next settler.
Old one starts road north.
Diplo: nothing new.

IT: nada

1525BC (turn 10):
Kyoto settler -> warrior (lux slider back to 10%)
The pair heads to the silk, we need them online asap. We are on -1 gpt. But that'll be fixed with growth of Kyoto next turn. Horses come within reach in 3 turns.

the save

I got it...I'll play tomorrow night (East Coast USA) so as to have time for comments :)

Ok, on first glance this looks to be a very solid turn a space oddity.

Looking at it, what does everyone feel about Osaka building a settler? It is size 3 and will grow after the settler is built and so will drop back to size 1. It doesn't seem to be working at a very sustainable rate. In the long run would it not be better to get a granary now and then set about building workers/settlers. What does everyone else think?

Here is my attempt at a dotmap.

ctr1dotmap5.JPG

Lol, I notice another dotmap uploaded at the same time as this and we probably have COMPLETELY different city sites. Just to say the orange dot is not in a particularly good position, it is just there to show that I think we should claim those gems. It wasn't a suggested city site, more a suggested city area.

This is just my opinion.

I don't think the sites are so very different SHard, your yellow and purple are on the same spot as my red and orange ones.
Your green dot wastes the deer and misses the fish, which is a shame in the dry area it is. But I could not make my mind up on that one, hence the light and dark options for that spot.

As for the settler in Osaka, we can only claim the good spots if we can grow fast enough. It might be a good investment if we switch to granary, OTOH we could be too late by then. We could use the time to pre-road for the settler to get there quicker... Decisions, decisions...

edit: One More Thing, now that we have Map Making maybe we need to switch Dark Green to Galley. It's up to you ChrTh, good luck.

Yep my green dot needs moving. I didn't see the plains one square SE of it and that would certainly be a better site.

My comment on them being different was before I had seen your dotmap. I saw it in the list of uploaded files as being uploaded a minute before mine and I speculated they would be very different. It turns out they were pretty similar :)

You guys should just agree on your next 2 or 3 city sites and then make dotmaps after they are done. Extrapolating out to 8 future cities is a waste of time on Deity.
Hint: Grab Luxuries now, not later, they won't be there later. Get them even if you can't hook them up for 1000 years. The trade they'll bring later is invaluable.

Dark-Blue is in a spot that guarantees you zero Dyes. Settle so the Luxuries are in the 9 and not only the 21.

sadly, guys, I'm got to make a trip all next week (Sunday thro to Sunday, and I'm not going to get a chance to even see the net, let alone get to play. I'm afraid I will have to put in a leave of abscence until next week sunday ( 8 June) - look after our blossoming empire til then...

Ok, well bearing in mind what Quokka said I think our next city should go on a space oddity's red dot.

I don't know what people feel about trying to clinch the gems in the north. They would be very useful trading tools as the luxes will be worth a lot to the AI.
