CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

I've got it. I'll try to play tonight. I'm up in my other SG as well.

I think it is kind of late for a settler factory. I think we could use a worker factory, but I am wondering if the granary in Osaka should be switched to something more beneficial at this stage of the game. I think I'm going to leave the build as a granary because Osaka will be nice large city and we can pull a worker offf of it every once in awhile.

Does anyone else have any comments?

I think we previously decided that Osaka would be a good worker factory, so the granary was a good idea. I would agree at this point.

How many troops do we need before going to war with Abe? I think we should ally with Joan when the war begins. The two settlers by Dark Humor are intersting targets. We sure could use the extra workers. Could we hold off Abe at this point? I kind of doubt it and think I'll let them pass. We can let Abe settle two jungle cities for us. :)

Do we still need the kayak exploring down south? We could disband it and recoup it's 1 gpt.

I think we should upgrade our troops and establish embassies with everyone asap.

Not sure about the troops, and no, we're not ready to fight Abe ... galley disband is probably ok. What do you want to upgrade? I think we should be building Horsemen and saving gold to upgrade them. Embassies are ok, especially with Joan

spearman to pikes is probably a good idea; at least 1 a city. Warriors to swordsmen may be unnecessary, but it's up to you.

Earp, I shouldn't worry about upgrading warriors to swords, but spears to pikes is probably a good move. Good luck!

Earp-san takes the keys to the empire from Wanderer.

0) 550 BC
check F1
Change Satsuma's tax collector to a scientist and turn off science slider.
Change Kagoshima and Satsuma's productions form warriors to barracks.

We can upgrade 5 warriors to swords for 200 gold and 3 spears to pikes for 60 gold. We have 842 gold and 38 gpt. I decide to upgrade the spearmen only.

MM-Dark Green for more food and gold and less shields this turn

1) 530 BC
Sirp-Orange Horse --> Horse
Dark-Green Horse --> Temple (to get the two fish within its border)
The people decide to expand our palace.
MM some cities
Kyoto is at 10 spt.
Worker by Dark Chocolate move to build road by Edo
Why is there an irrigated tile N of Osaka w/o a road? It will take an extra worker turn to go back and build road at some point.
3 Workers NW of Osaka irrigate
Galley to the far south begins to scout sea tiles. Removing black tiles will increase the value of our WM and when we lose the galley, we gain 1 gpt.
Selling World Map
Abe - TM+1gp
Gandhi - TM+1gp

Xerxes is the only civ with Theology. He will not trade it to us for 41gpt and 833gp

IBT India and Iriquois sign alliance against France

2) 510 BC

Our galley is lost.

Xerxes - nothing

Hiawatha - nothing
Joan - nothing
Has Theology now. Wants dyes and 610 gold

I decide to hold off trading for Theology. I want to save our dinero for Chivalry which is obviously of more use to us. I don't think we have a chance at Sistine's without a pre-build and Theology might get cheaper after the AI completes this wonder. Maybe?

3) 490 BC

Xerxes - nothing - has chivalry and wants 860 gold for it.
Hiawatha - nothing (has 11 gp)
Joan - nothing (has 19 gp)
Abe, Hiawatha, and Joan lack chivalry, but don't have much to give us for it.
The World Ranking is
Persia - 1234
India - 1098
England - 948
Iriquois - 901
America - 868
France - 665
Japan - 446
Xerses has 504 gold in his treasury. I think he was the one to research Chivalry. He didn't have it last turn.
We have eight horses plus three due next turn. Horses are 30 shields and samurai are 70 shields. I think it will cost us 80 gp per upgrade and we have 1048 gp in our treasury.
Even though she wants more gold, I decide to buy Chivalry from Lizzy. I would rather put the gold in her treasury than in Gandhi's. He is more of a threat to us being our northern neighbor. I buy Chivalry from Lizzy for 33 gpt and 151 gp. We upgrade 7 horsemen for 560 gold. The eighth is in Kagoshima and lacks a barracks.

IBT America and Persia sign a military alliance against France. Poor Joan :(

7) 410 BC
Dark Green Temple --> Samurai
Dark Humour Temple --> Barracks
Move scientist to Kyoto
Joan will not trade us Theology for Chivalry, but she will make the trade if we agree to an alliance against the evil Americans. I am not sure if we are ready for war yet and I noticed that we still have an active trade with Abe. We trade Chivalry to Joan for Theology, 14 gp, WM, and our only Horses. Samurai do not require horses and Joan needs them to beat on the Americans for us. ;)
Gandhi, Lizzy, and Xerxes have Engineering. It's too expensive for us. All of them have less than 100 gp. Xerses must have upgrade alot of troops with his 504 gold.

The SAVE

I got it, unless inudog wants next? Decide quickly, I'm playing this afternoon (will discuss/comment after looking at save)

(Is it just me, or is the forum all hosed up?)

The zip file is corrupt or something, when I open it there are no files inside?!? (despite having a filesize)...can you reload the ZIP or SAV?
Thanks

Ok, here's what I'm thinking:

my 10 turns are going to be boring. I'm going to build Samurais across the board for the entire length of turns, until our military is average compared to America's.

Our targets in the war with America are as follows: Denver, Cincy, whatever city that settler builds east of Cincy, Baltimore, Detroit, and St. Louis. Those are the close cities, and those will secure our borders. If we're able to, we should try to take Seattle, San Fran, and Atlanta, but they might be tougher.

Since not much is going to happen on my turn (unless someone attacks), I'm going to play now to keep it moving...

Turn 0 -- 350 BC
I stop a worker from mining the iron, and send it to help Dark Blue/Chocolate with Irrigation

Everything else looks ok

IT: Iro & Joan sign a peace treaty

Turn 1 -- 330 BC
Kyoto Sam>Sam
We get some cultural expansion
I up Lux to 10% to keep a couple cities from rioting

Turn 2 -- 310 BC
Americans request an audience...we exchange World Maps (in lieu of Pact vs. France)
Incense deal expires with America, I renegotiate it...WE CAN NOT ATTACK US FOR 20 TURNS (we should probably coordinate appropriately)

Turn 3 -- 290 BC

IT: Persia demands 41 Gold and TM...too powerful, I can't risk it
India and France sign a Peace Treaty. I think we'll need to get India and Persia fighting each other at some point...

Turn 4 -- 270 BC

Sirp-Oracle Sam>Sam
Our World Map is worthless, but I sell it anyway :D

Turn 5 -- 250 BC

Turn 6 -- 230 BC
:wallbash: Wake Up!

Turn 7 -- 210 BC
Dark Choc Sam>Sam
Dark Humuor Barracks>Worker
Bombay finishes Hanging Gardens
Military is still weak compared to Americans

Turn 8 -- 190 BC
Kyoto Sam>Sam
Dark Blue Sam>Sam

Turn 9 -- 170 BC
Kagoshima Barracks>Temple

Turn 10 -- 150 BC
Dark Green Sam>Sam
Tokyo Spear>Barracks

Military Check:
Strong v France (no surprise)
Weak v India, America, and Persia
Average v Iroquois, English

Keep building Sams up, remember we have ~12 turns on our last deal with America. Watch Happiness, and watch our Scientist, a couple times the computer changed it to Entertainer on me

Here's the Save:

Ok, I looked at the save. I've checked how our power compares to America. It's like this:

CTR1--power_150BC1.JPG

They're about twice our size... I feel we need to think about what we try to achieve. Do we want to cripple America or do we want to claim their cities? If we go for the nearest cities, I think we'll autoraze them. I that case we need to have settlers ready to fill the gaps and they won't feel it very much. In the 11 turns of left over in the deal we won't be strong enough to take very many cities IMO. Also because we don't want to spread out our troops too thin.

For you lurkers out there this is the current situation:

CTR1--overview_150BC.JPG

If we want to hurt/cripple them we need to attack one ot two of their developed cities and sue for peace while we are threatening another city. Maybe they would be willing to hand over one of the smaller towns in the peace deal.

What do you guys think?

edit: This won't happen in my set of turns but I do need to know whether to build settlers or not.

America has poor Joan down to four cities. I think most of Abe's forces are probably in former French territory. I think we should hit him as soon as the trade deal runs out.
