Yes we

As far as I'm concerned I only read history related books...

... in the end, I was obliged to look it up on the internet.

Question 28: Just about every illustration of Hannibal's famous march across the Alps features the Elephants that were a part of his army. But how many of them actually survived the mountainous passage?

7 Elephants, 1500 Horsemans and 20000 fighters.

7 Elephants, 1500 Horsemans and 20000 warriors. Before the trip there were
40 elephants, 7000 Horsemans and 60000 warriors.
(I hope this is not a repeat- I'm having problems with Explorer

I'm going to have to accept Juize's answer as correct.

It didn't jive with my source, so I double checked it against some others; and I found that there are different opinions as to how many of the Elephants survived the journey.

Oh well ...

In several anciet sources, the number is ZERO, and the carts got a seaborne re-enforcement of elephants shortly after the crossing.

No one is clear on this point.

I just looked up in some books too and number Zero seems a bit absurd to me...
Hannibal is lengendary for having crossed the alps with elephants...

Oh really Az?
And what books might those be?

No web sites, BOOKS!

I'm referring to two accounts, Fabious Pictor's, who served throughout that campagign as the principle guide for the Roman accounts, was a participant in the events, amd became a Roman senator, and Polybius, who is renowned as a great historian.

As I said, opinions vary.

I didn't mean you were wrong or that your sources were unreliable. (btw I edited my last message as some words were missing. modem probs. explorer just freezes sometimes and I don't see it).

What I meant was that it was the first time I heard that and it seemed strange to me.

And what's wrong with books?

Hmm, seems like we've encountered to another historical matter-of-argue! Myself I
remembered it was some of my history books, and checked all 7. And yippii, it was on
2 of my books, and in both the number of elephants we're the same.
Other book was from 1943 and another from year 1962, so not-so reliable and/or new but...
To the point, next question, which is:
Q 29: IN WHICH YEAR DID THE CHACO-WAR BEGIN?
I want the year and all the countries which we're in there.

There were two Chaco wars. One in 1865-1970 opposing the three bordering coutries (Uruguay, Argentina, Brasil) to Paragay.
The second lasted from 1932 to 1935 between Bolivia and Paragay. Bolivia lost but kept a thin corridor to the Paragay river.
In the first war Paragay lost 300.000 men from a total population of 525.000!!!
Of the remeining 221.000 only 28.764 (!) were men!!!
