I'm bored, so here goes. You did, after all, say first to post questions:

1) Which ancient people were the first to defeat the up until then undefeated Charlemagne?

2) Who was the "Swedish Meteor"?

3) Who was the most trusted of all of Genghis Khan's generals, the one who eventually led the invasion of Russia, and soon thereafter of East Europe?

4) What was the mysterious to modern historians, elite, highly mobile infantry in Alexander's armies whos name translates to "Shield Bearers". (Bad speelling excepted ;))

5) What was the rising shahdom that seemed to be the new superpower of the Middle East, until the Mongols came crashing down?

6) Name the highly acclaimed Mauryan Emperor who converted to Buddhism after his bloody conquest of Kalinga, transforming a small sect into a world religion?

7) Which was the largest Chinese empire until the Ming, discounting foreign dynasties of course?
Bonus: On an unrelated note, what is the Class of the millipedes? Hint: In the phylum Arthropoda. :p

8) Name the city that predates the Incas, and is most likely a contemporary of the Huari Empire... More specifically, it is located near Lake Titicaca, and is most famous for a large gateway carved from a single stone, the figure on which bears a striking resmblance to a completely different figure thousands of miles away in England?

9) Random obscure question of the day: What North American tribe has a common name deriving from their neighbor's name for moccasins?

10) One last one to slog through: What medieval people were one of the last in Europe to convert to christianity, one of the largest empires at their zenith, and only faded into obscurity after a union with a nearby kingdom did them in as that kingdom was eaten up by nations all around it? Hint: This nation is currently independent.
Bonus: Name how this nation fell a second time, after regaining their freedom.

I just want to point out that I made a terrible mistake in my quizz. The battle of ager Sanguinis was indeed in "Outremer" but between Antioch and Alep and mostly involved Antioche and happened in 1119.

It is not related to the battle of Hattin that I mixed with it. Sorry for that and mille grazie to Gagliaudo for pointing it out !

@NorthKing: Interesting quiz! Do you mind posting the scores so far? I am tempted to try, but since I don't know all I would like to know if anybody already has clinched it...
It would also be nice to know the time limit.

It is L-U-C-E-A-F-A-R-U-L actually, but no problem. I have started to collect the way people spell this, and I am up to 9 so far...

I might take it, but then it will not be posted before Sunday at best.

Gustavus Adolphus.

 Surely you mean Karl (Charles) XII !?

I'll see if I can't get something put together tomorrow, though I have a hunch this group will knock anything I come up with right out of the park pretty easily. ;)

Excellent. :) I leave it to you then, and look forward to a fresh angle!

Wow - I'm used to not knowing the answers, but I don't even understand that last question! I'm guessing it's something to do with sport, but you never know...

You're dead on, college football, to be more specific. I admit that one is a bit unfair to most, though, so consider it a bonus.

Edit: And for clarification on #6, I don't mean peculiar as in rare or unheard of, just as in notable.

 I'm used to not knowing the answers, too, but this is one of the few that I do know.

I'm more of a UVa guy, though. They had a decent draft, volume-wise (though not the caliber of '97).

I have no idea what the answer to #9 is. It's obvious there were three cities in "Tri-polis," but I don't know what they were.

All right, three entries so far. Come on, folks, it's got to be at least worth throwing a guess at. ;)

I'll give it another day or two and see if any entries come in.

YNCS is our winner with 6 correct.

1. Who commanded the 15th Alabama Infantry during the War of Secession and was later elected governor of Alabama? Bonus: What was the name of his book about the war. Disclaimer: This one's here because the answer is a distant cousin of mine, and the pride of the small town my mother's from.

William Oates, and the book I was looking for is simply titled The War between the Union and the Confederacy and its Lost Opportunities

2. Give the modern cities to match their ancient predecessors:

a. Mediolanum - Milan/Milano
b. Hispalis - Seville
c. Colonia Aggripina - Cologne/Koln
d. Lugdunum - Lyon
e. Lutetia - Paris

3. Which 3rd century Roman emperor was known to dress as a woman and refer to himself as empress?

Elagabalus

4. What company built the first new automobile factory in Russia under the Communist regime?

Ford Motor Co.

5. Who, according to Gibbon, is justly considered the principal author of the decline of the Roman Empire? Bonus: To what act in particular does Gibbon ascribe this credit?

Septimius Severus, and his indulgences of the legions/Praetorians is the prime reason, for the long-term effects it had.

6. What is peculiar about the lineage of Ghengis Khan's first son, Jochi?

Temujin's wife and Jochi's mother, Borte, was captured by the Mekrit tribe in a raid, then freed when the Mekrit were defeated and reunited with Temujin, all in a timeframe that raise doubt about who Jochi's actual father was.

7. Who killed Commodus?

Narcissus, the wrestler

8. Of whom did Robert E. Lee say, "He has lost his left arm, but I have lost my right arm."?

Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson

9. What ancient cities make up Tripoli?

I was looking for Oea, Sabratha and Leptis Magna, which combined to give Tripoli its name, but took Oea, since that was the closest anyone came, and is the actual city site.

10. What university is the first to have its entire backfield drafted in the first round of the NFL draft? Bonus: What three players fromed this backfield? (Okay, so this just happened today, but it's my alma mater, so I'm indulging myself ).

Auburn University (RB Ronnie Brown at #2, RB Carnell Williams at #5 and QB Jason Campbell at #25)

Shucky-darn, now I've got to come up with some history questions.
