Current Status + Future Updates

We'll figure all that stuff out once we're finished with the beta testing :)

Hmmm... its been a couple weeks since anyone's posted anything here. Is this mod on stand-by and we're going to pick it back up in the summer or is this just kinda still for the moment? Are we ever going to get back into the Renaissance we had over Winter Break where this entire forum was chugging along at light speed to finish this mod?

Oh and is everyone still working on this mod? I know NikNaks is, as he just recently posted some wonderful logo ideas, sandman is (I talk to him in school), I am, ianinsane, Eirik Blodøks, both just posted recently, sheep I'm not totally sure about you. And does anyone know where DVS is? He posted once a couple weeks ago and never posted again...

So just as a head count, everyone who is still here and is able to work on this mod over summer (as I think this is best, everyone is still kinda finishing up school now) post a nice "Here Here!" in this thread.

I'm happy to help out with research although i'm of the impression that's no longer required?

I think one thing which is needed is for another proper update from Niknaks on the front page to say where we are at, what needs doing etc. At the moment things seem from the outside a little disjointed and unco-ordinated.

I know Genghis Kai is working on this and committed, but is really awaiting some direction on whether to start placing map overlays i believe. Perhaps someone in the know could liaise with him?

See:

NikNaks, any chance you can tell us a bit more about the status of the mod?

Reason I asked is because you've mentioned that the scenario is not ready, and I wonder which aspects of the scenario is causing the delay. The city-placement work has been finished almost two months ago and all I've been doing since then on the scenario is basically shaving it up (which is unnecessary if time is pressed). From my perspective, as long as all the leaderheads, units and buildings are finalized, someone can start placing them on the scenario, which wouldn't take too long to do so.

Moreover, would it be possible to provide a 60civ dll version of the mod so that I could load up the scenario properly? (The scenario has only been loaded up with a 36civ version before).

Have the ideologies already been placed, too, Genghis?

I didn't, as I was not assigned to do so. But I think you have already done the hardest work on it, i.e. the research work you did and then nicely listed them in an excel file. Anyone can take over the excel file and start placing the correct ideologies on the map by simply searching and pasting.

The biggest part remaining for the scenario now, I think, is placing units. But there is also an excel file prepared for that distribution as well is it not? If so then again, it should not take too long to do.

Thanks :goodjob:

Okay, I'll be posting a detailed status update either later today or tomorrow. Watch this space.

I may be wrong, but i don't think this update has arrived?? Ianinsane, perhaps you might want to liaise with Kai re ideology placement? It seems he's waiting on this so i might imagine that others may be?

On a sidenote, really looking forward to it and keep it up guys. I'm coming up to finishing my final uni exam so i guess others are too. :)

Yah, I'm think research is no longer needed. All we need now are programmers n'stuff.

Yes I think a status update is needed from NikNaks, though I know that he is a pretty busy man.

Oh, and sorry Genghis Kai! I totally blanked out and forgot to mention that you're one of the ones still working on this :D.

I posted a detailed excel file which ideology where to be placed. That's all I can do for now, I don't have time at the moment to work on this mod. Someone else has to place ideologies using that excel sheet.

I would be happy to help with some programming, but it depends on what is needed. I can easily do XML though.

Welcome aboard cheesemijit

Well, if you can easily do XML, thats great news since sandman and I have been having some trouble with a couple UB's and UU's that need to be finished. Just go and check out the UU and UB forum and see the last couple of posts, they'll tell you what UU's and UB's need to be finished.

Oh, and sorry to hear that you won't be able to work on the mod right now ianinsane, do you know when you'll be free to work again? Because to finish this we're really going to need the entire team.

Cool. Yes I remember giving that a read and it looked very detailed, great work.

I guess Kai should be fine to place these then. To be clear i wasn't suggesting you should place them, just observing that Kai seemed to be getting held up by a lack of clarity/ instruction from his supply chain given there has been no recent overall status update.

Kai, are you still around?

My laptop crashed a week ago. Still working to try to ressurect it, but I can tell for sure that hours of XML translating is gone forever, so I will have to start over again. With upcoming exams and concept art for a game, I'm too busy to do anything in a few weeks now. But I guess we won't desperately need a norwegian translation of the mod to finish it, so that can wait.

In fact, I probably won't be able to give more help in this project since I am phasing out of civ modding. But I wish to finish up the part I worked on before I leave. So please inform me when the 50-civ-dll version of the mod is really for download, so that I can actually open up the scenario properly in this mod and then fine tuning to the point where I think it can be pass on to someone else.

I second that. This mod is becoming stuck in a rut.

 That sucks. I hope you get back online soon, buddy.

Sorry to hear about your leaving, but good luck with everything else. On the subject of the 50-dll, I'd left it with DVS, who had a coder friend from school, but as he's gone AWOL temporarily, I guess it comes back to me again. I'll see what I can do. Would it be feasible to use a default 50-civ mod and ignore the errors, or would that just crash it straight away? I'm inclined to hold off DLL modding until RevDCMWoC is released, but I can see we're under severe time constraints.

Too true. Unfortunately, it's that time of year for exams and people are busier than ever. I'm no exception, but I do have a couple of days free.

To all: There are a lot of people saying that they've added things to files, but I'm not seeing much on the SVN. If people could either upload them, or, where that's not possible, send them to me ASAP. We really have to keep pushing at this to get a release. If you have uploaded your file somewhere, and in my rush I've missed it, I apologize, and please post a quick link. Let's get this show on the road! :goodjob:

is already out. It has WoC included.

Other than that, I have no idea of Revolution part is doing great or not. I don't use Revolution part, just DCM part. I already used a few mods with RevDCM 2.0 included and was OK with them so far. No crashes or mess-ups from RevDCM.

I am waiting for a version of the World 2009 mod that allows me to load a scenario that contains 52civs and with the uniquely new leaderheads (Obama etc.), buildings and units. I would therefore think other mods are not suitable.
(Btw, it should be 60-civ-dll, not 50, as the scenario contains 52 civs. I've got it mixed up with some other mods.)

I've got the RevDCM mod with 50-civ-dll. But the unique nature (such as leaderheads, units and buildings) of our mod will made my scenario not compatible with RevDCM, unless I modify it. Note that I've always been working on the scenario in another mod (in GEM, my own mod), but the develop of it is up to a point that needs a change. It is necessary to be loaded in our mod so that the scenario can be bug tested as well.

Just to clarify, I am not asking for a complete release of our mod, but a temporary release. I had a 34-civ-dll version of our mod a few months ago and I could open up the scenario in it, provided that I deleted a lot of civs. It generates tons of errors when opening but it could still be opened. I am just hoping to have again another similar version, but with 60-civ-dll setting, which should be a dead simple thing to change in the source code (just one number to be modified and recompile).

Just for that, I've been waiting for months, which holds up my progress.

What is the hold up with this?
Can no-one provide a 60 civ dll?
Do we know who is dealing?
Has anyone been allocated to deal with this?
Who is project managing the project now?
Are we to assume that DVS has abandoned this?
If so can Niknaks drive this through?

We desperately need someone who knows how to do the technical engineering to grab this mod by the scruff of the neck and drive it through.

Sorry for stating the obvious and beleive me i wish i was a modder, but this mod is such a great idea and so much work has been done it would be a shame to let it fal to pieces. The nature of voluntary global internet based work is that no-one owes anyone anything and it can be hard to communicate, but we are crying out for an able modder amongst the team to drive this through.

If anyone feels like me and knows how to provide a 60 civ dll can they please do so?

Come on!
