Current Status + Future Updates

Yeah, once school's over (in like a week for me) I should have a lot more time to work on anything you guys need (I finished all that I could do with my UB's).

Guys. I'm a sound engineer, with access to recording equipment. I can do voices for the South African civ. Is there no sound thread anywhere?

im alive! Sorry, been really busy with real life stuff guys, alota stuff been going on recently.

Back on the case though :)

when will the mod accomplish?

We're working on it. We were on hiatus for a couple months due to school and other work related stuff that interfered with time for making this mod. But now its summer and most people on the team seem to have more times on their hands, so its picking up again. I can't (and won't) give out a release date because I have no idea when its going to be completed, but just for now know that we're still working on this ;).

Wow, a month has gone by already since anyone's posted. Anyway, I think we're finishing up 0.5 on the roadmap, and we're nearing private beta.

I had a big post in for NikNaks...and received ZERO official info from him. Until I have the questions answered that I asked...I don't know that anyone has any faith in what is going on. They were very good, general questions that would help everyone know exactly where we are...

This is the list of questions I'm talking about:

idk, this forum (at least recently) tends to die really quickly, and I have not the slightest idea why. But hopefully some of these posts will garner attention and get the ball rolling again. And then maybe we can get a more accurate standing on where we are by NikNaks and such.

it seems to me as we are all waiting for nikNaks to tell us where we are and what we need to do. i know we havent been posting much but i check this thread every day to see if anyone has post and i think alot of other people are doing the same but we don't really have anything to post. i know sandman is working on the units and i am going over the buildings xml still to check for any errors but i don't know what else needs doing at the moment. is the civilisation xml all up to date and ready?

Well we're waiting for NikNaks because he is really one of the only people programming the main components for this mod (and so we kinda expect him to know how far along we are), and he is been kinda organizing it since the beginning, back in '08.

And really, this forum and mod really hasn't been the same since winter break earlier this year, and since one of our big contributors (DVS) left us .

Once NikNaks can answer these questions, we'll be able to actually do some work. Until then, though, I don't know that anyone really knows exactly where we are.

What do you already have implemented that is supposed to be in the mod?
What is needed, still?
What things have you seen that simply cannot be done the way we wanted them to be done?
What are things still needed to be done that you cannot personally do, and we need to find outside help?...

First up, apologies for not being very active recently. While school finished a few weeks ago, I've been away in Italy, then Manchester, and then Leeds for various reasons. Anyway, all that aside, we all, I'm sure, have a whole lot more free time than normal to really start cranking the wheels on this thing.

Too true. Hopefully I can clear some things up. If I'm being too vague, pester me, and I'll do more digging.

Right. Well, I currently have the RevDCMWoC bundle that was released a few months ago, and was (I think) half-way through rewriting the XML to make it compatible. I'll upload what I have, if I haven't already, and we can see what's missing that's already been done.
What is needed, still?
None of the new features (i.e. the coding aspects) have been done, due to none of us having any relevant knowledge. All that aside, there are a lot of things we can do with the functionality brought to us by the SDK bundle I mentioned above, so we can still do a lot with it. Other than that, I think there are still many parts of the XML waiting to be written, but as to which those are, I'm not entirely clear. Once I've updated the repo, we'll have a clearer picture.
What things have you seen that simply cannot be done the way we wanted them to be done?
How do you mean? With the skillset of our team, there are many, but all are possible if we get a code guru to help out.
What are things still needed to be done that you cannot personally do, and we need to find outside help?...
See above.

I hope that's at least made it a little clearer. If it hasn't, keep asking questions and keep things alive. I've been a pretty c*** team leader recently, and I know that, but I want to try and make up for it before autumn comes.

So, if you've helped out in the past, want to help out, tried to help out but couldn't because I wasn't here, or can help in any way, please get on board with the SVN. If you don't know what that is, there's a thread right here. I know many of you have read through that, followed the instructions and tried to download, but something went wrong. If this is you, post in that thread and I'll try and get as many of you on as I can. For those Mac users amongst you, there are clients around, but I'm yet to have a consensus on the best one around. If anyone has any suggestions for that, pass them on. :)

On the front of files, if anyone has done any work in the past, say, six months, and has it to hand, upload it in this thread that I just created. In my own special way, I've overlooked, ignored, deleted or even forgotten about several files full of your hard work. If you still have those files (which I'm sure most of you do), post them there and I'll see how much further along we are than I thought. Of course, if you've correctly installed the SVN, you can upload it yourself. :)

Okay, how's that? That's pretty much everything I care to remember about the status of this project. Any more questions? I'm happy to answer them.

Okay...I guess:

Name the features - from the threads that we DO have the ability to do & create. Understandably some things will be easy: Units, Buildings...Unit & Building placement, etc. What other things can we actually DO?

Name the features - of the many - that we cannot do. What exactly do we need to find someone for? There is no way to find some outside help without knowing exactly what we need so we can scour the board and ask the experts for advice/help...

Maybe you might want to detail in-depth (boring I know but do it :D) the features that you insist on saying repeatedly. That way, he can give you better picture if he know what you mean by features precisely.

Hmmm... what I think we should do is basically make a whole list of all the features in this mod, and then by each one say if it is finished or not (as in put into the mod or not), what skills you would need to complete the feature (xml, python, sdk, etc.), and who, if anybody, is currently working on that feature. I can try and make that list (with a little help with the skills and such) but I was wondering if it should be placed here, or in a new thread for the sake of not cluttering this one up?

List of "Ideas" for the mod. Niksnaks...feel free to hijack this thread and create your own that you can update, etc.

#1 Ideas for Unique Buildings & Units (Top post in the following link):
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=303068

#2 FULL Final Civ list with accurate city & map settings & alliances

#3 Working & fully complete Tech Tree

#4 National & World Wonders (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=306283) With them working correct with regard to Tech Tree

#5 All Leaders with Working Leaderheads. If we do NOT have custom leader heads - I propose we simply use still photographs. If we DO have leaderheads - great.

#6 Correct Army sizes and correct amounts of Units for Each civilization

#7 Working Trade Organizations (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=302824)

#8 Working Civics (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=275872) - Also - Civics should be LOCKED in, or - at the VERY LEAST we should have the AI have "favorite civics" so that we don't see a Central Planning USA, etc.

#9 Units Ratios (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=308930) - How many units are going to be representing factions of armies (full armies, brigades, etc.)

These are 9 items that are pretty much the "basis" for this mod existing. Of these 9 - which ones do we have FINISHED and implemented or ready to be implemented. Which do we not have, yet. And which will we NEVER be able to have unless we get someone that can create/code them?...
