If you actually want people to use the culture slider maybe you should bring back the innate happiness from it, currently it only provides happiness with the relevant buildings.

But that would devalue theaters imo.

No it wouldn't, with the new border expansion mechanic culture is more important than it ever was, and Theaters double the happiness you get from the culture slider, meaning with a measly one time payment of 50 hammers you can save yourself a whole lot of commerce if you ever get unhappy.

Have you btw ever gotten around to the main reason so many buildings are not worth building? That is Wealth and Research being so efficient, as well as failgold. And don't forget the ludicrous modifiers for spaceship parts that kept the Soviet economy afloat all on their own in that one game I salvaged from schubert.

Oh thanks for bringing that up.

Further civic plans:
- reduce Autocracy to 2 drafts per turn (includes espionage modifier removal)
- reduce Vassalage to +1 happiness from Castle
- change Industrialism upkeep to low
- remove commerce modifier from Capitalism

Also maybe: make Republic medium and Autocracy high upkeep, but I don't know if that's going overboard in nerfing it.

Commerce modifier of what? Capitalism?

I do think you are going overboard with that upkeep switch, so leave it be for now.

i understand some civics needed tweaking , and others buffing , but for some the nerfs have no logic? I think that Dynastism needs redisign , you rearly use the happiness bonus from units , atleast i dont, Theocracy still outweights it imo. Capitalism was fine , dont know why remove the commerce bonus , even tho yea it can get out of hand if you control alot of shrines sometimes

Dynasticism is fine, there's plenty of civs that can use the extra happiness, especially those that aren't religiously homogenous. The only thing I would change is the upkeep maybe, or if we want to get creative, maybe add a slight production bonus for world wonders.

Shrines have nothing to do with Capitalism as they provide raw gold. While Capitalism was the best option in its category, I still think Leoreth is overdoing it when he is nerfing it at the same time as buffing Industrialism. Just leave the % commerce bonus be and half the extra commerce you get from towns instead. I for one think Towns should get an extra commerce with Railroads instead.

I think the changes are good. Commerce is far more important than what bonuses many other civics offer.

I tend to go:
Republic
Capitalism
Secularism
Representation
Free market
Standing army

And I rather not change those for other civics.

That's why I reduced happiness from Theocracy, it shouldn't be your preferred source of happiness.

Overall I wanted to nerf civic effects somewhat, ever since another column was added I feel the overall amount of benefits has increased, which in turn upset balance somewhat.

Wonder construction speed is interesting, but in the light of more bonuses as explained above I don't know if it isn't too much.

I prefer the town bonus to the flat commerce modifier, because it encourages synergy with specific play styles and strategic choice.

As another question, how often do you see AIs adopt Egalitarianism, and how big is the unhappiness from that usually? I don't have much experience with the late game there.

I see it very, very rarely if ever. The same goes for Representation - somehow the AI loves the other civics in that column more. The same goes for Guilds btw, at least half of the AIs run it in the lategame despite having the others available...

I also wonder, what is the general opinion on Scholasticism? I think it also needs a buff, currently Organized Religion is just far better with its +25% construction speed. Maybe increase the GP birth rate, or something like +1 :science: from monasteries?

General advice for stuff that boosts Great People emergence: Due to the ever moving goalposts any given bonus to GPP points is never as great as it seems beyond getting your very first Great Person, even more so as different boosts are added additive and not multiplicative. Just make any such boosts be 100% and you can't go wrong.

hey there.

felt like playing some Civ and well, of course it had to be DoC.

Adapting to the new SVN and its changes takes some time (how does the Japanese UP work? Is it really only a research bonus towards techs known by "friends"?) and I still hate getting "- 8 stability" from unhappiness when all my cities are happy and my whipping has been forgiven already, but hey, thats an old complaint and has been answered already, I think :D

Anyway, the reason I'm posting here is because I think this might not be intentional:

but then it might be.

Something tells me Leoreth would really like you to upload a savegame.

Oh hey, good to have you back.

Imagine Japan's UP as a one time Internet effect every time they enter a new era. But I'm currently thinking about changing it again.

Something tells me Leoreth would really like you to upload a savegame.
Actually, not sure about that. Seems like a fluke to me.

Haven't played in a while, and never been that much into the lategame, but I thought the Internet just *gives* you techs?
I advanced to the renaissance and didn't get either Printing Press from my Chinese friends, nor Astronomy from my Swedish buddies.

Overall I don't really see the point of the UP besides maybe for 1700AD-starts, but yeah, maybe I need to see it working first^^

also: wouldn't say I'm back, I'm probably more passing through, will play for a week or two and then be gone again for a few months, I expect. Still :)

The tech needs to be of the era that you just entered, and known to three civs you have OB with. The purpose is to allow you to leapfrog ahead when you're behind.

But the mechanics are kind of complicated, I want to move on to something that is more straightforward while still focusing on catching up.

Hello.

Is it possible to won a Domination Victory ?

Stability issue are annoying. I never liked it. How can I disable Stability ?
