CVH- Comeback of the Century (Axis of Evil)

Preturn (1050AD) All right, let's make this suckah dance.

Looks good. Every city is at 12 citizens and putting out 20 uncorrupted shields per turn. We have pretty much all the money in the world right now. Everybody loves us, except for Mao. Too bad for him. England and America are even gracious, since we have military alliances with them against China. 10 turns left to go on those, but no signs of war weariness yet. We can sell Democracy to Rome for 35gpt and 70g (his treasury). Seems like a good idea to me. Caesar is our friend for now, so we don't mind feeding him some techs. Gracious to us as well. If only he know what was in store for him once the panzers roll. We also sell Democracy to Liz for 30g and 32gpt, which breaks her bank. :) Nobody else has more than 20g to spend. We're still tech kings of this world. Magellen's due in Hamburg in 8, and Shakespere's due in Konigsberg in 3. Knights on the way everywhere else. Our military is only costing us 18gpt, so we can build a few more units, I think. We may even have enough to burn Beijing and take away Mao's crusaders. I like that idea. One thing that is not so good is that we've apparently built a partially complete line of fortresses along the American border, but didn't man it, so now Abe has parked a few units in there. They will have to be told to go away as soon as our ROP with Abe is up. Three of our five cities are also without defenders. So we need to be careful of letting foreigners traipse around in our territory. Also, the culture borders of San Francisco have expanded to claim an incense tile near Hamburg. Don't like that. SF is now not likely to flip to us anytime soon. We have three workers over in Roman territory right now to help Caesar hook up an extra salt so we can trade. Odd, but I'll go with it. Magnetism due next turn. Japan and Russia are still at war, with no big losses on either side, it seems. Oh, and nobody on our side has contact with the other guys.

Enough fiddling around. Time to hit Enter.

IBT A rider takes out a wounded American MedInf. Abe moves a bunch of units through our territory. We get Magnetism, and I dial up Theory of Gravity in 5, while still pulling in 181gpt. (Really want Newton's in Berlin to go along with Cop's. We can hold off on MilTrad for a bit more.)

Turn 1 (1060AD) I cash rush the knight in Berlin and set to to make another. Looks like Rome and Japan just researched Metallurgy for us anyway. Tokugowa would be so happy to take Democracy in trade for it. Throw in a world map and 13g (his bank) it it's yours, my Asian friend. We still have monopolies on so many other techs that it just doesn't matter, and Caesar would have traded him Democracy sooner or later anyway. Shift some troops to hurt Shantung next turn. Eliminate a Chinese longbow that dared to approach our borders. (1-0)

IBT A rider kills a wounded knight that I couldn't get out of the way in time, but gets redlined. (1-1) I see a lavender crusader and some longbows head towards our borders. Japan and Russia finally call it off.

Turn 2 (1070AD) We must have lost a trade deal somewhere or something, as Berlin is suddenly cranky. It's not ww, either. No lux trades available right now. Rather than lose its lovely 20spt, I turn on the happy gas and set it to build a cathedral in 7. That should settle them. Rid ourselves of the offending rider. (2-1) Move some troops. Pillage a little.

IBT We lose a MedInf and a knight runs away to heal up. (2-2)Shakespere's completes in Konigsberg. :woohoo: Happy, happy. They need to contribute a knight to the war effort next.

Turn 3 (1080AD) Time to deal with Shantung. Our army takes out one pike (3-2), the next two knights put two pikes in the yellow, costing one of them his life (3-3), the next removes the last green pike (4-3), and a fresh knight finishes the job. (5-3) We we get renaming rights for Shantung and call it Rockpile City. Three former citizens head to our interior to become a future railroading crew. A knight disconnects one of Mao's silks.

IBT Lose a wounded knight to a crusader. (5-4) Another knight runs away.

Turn 4 (1090AD) Get rid of the crusader and the deserving knight gets moved up to elite. (6-4) Move some troops into Konigsberg to heal up for a push to Beijing.

IBT A lavender longbow retreats our elite knight. *shrug*

Turn 5 (1100AD) Kill a longbow. (7-4) I notice that Liz has managed to take over Buffalo, a former American town languishing under Chinese rule. It's way up in tundra territory, but significant because that was one of Mao's iron supplies. And now Liz will have iron as soon as she gets a harbor built. If she can keep her little outpost.

IBT Theory of Gravity comes in and we are now in the Industrial Age. And we get Medicine as our free tech. Steam Power is the next tech for us, due in 9. Our elated citizens add a new wing onto our palace.

Turn 6 (1110AD) Berlin gets its cathedral, and so we can turn off the happy juice. Starts work on Newton's, due in 20. Nobody dies.

IBT Abe would like our territory map. I think not, my friend.

Turn 7 (1120AD) Get rid of another lavender longbow. (8-4) Our knights are converging on Beijing.

IBT Mao sends a rider against a fortified longbow in a fortress on a hill outside of Konigsberg. And runs away again. We get Magellen's in Hamburg.

Turn 8 (1130AD) One of our beloved MedInf tries to get rid of that redlined rider in our territory and gets wasted. From a hill fort, no less. Stupid RNG. (8-5) A knight is diverted to finish the job. (9-5) Should be able to bring some pain to Beijing next turn.

IBT Lavender lonbow tries his best against one of our nights outside the walls of Beijing, but his best is not good enough. (10-5) Our road crew finishes connecting the Roman salt, so we can make a deal for that if we like. I may wait to see if somebody gets Military tradition in the next turn or two so we can upgrade some knights.

Turn 9 (1140AD) The battle of Beijing begins. Our brave blue knights attack from a hill, avoiding the river on the other side of town. We lose 1 knight, have 3 retreated, and Mao loses 5 pikes. (15-5) Beijing still stands. For now.

IBT Mao sends out a longbow against a yellow elite knight. End result? One dead longbow. (16-5) And this.

Abe would like to renew our ROP. Since we need to be able to move through his territory to get to China, we say yes. Likewise we renew our dyes for incense deal with Liz, throwing a whole 10g in the pot to make her say yes.

Turn 10 (1150AD) Troops outside of Beijing are too hurt to make a successful assault. Move them into American territory to heal up. Move in some reinforcements as well. Our leader heads back towards Konigsberg. Not sure what we're going to do with him. Suppose that if our current sword army dies taking Beijing we can make a new army right away.

And that's it.

We have more vet knights about to pop in Kongisberg and Frankfurt. Mao's defenses in Beijing are probably pretty slim about now. We can probably take him. Short-rushing knights has been working quite well. Our military alliances are about to expire, and we should definitely not renew them. We want to take peace as soon as we raze Beijing. Which I think the next better player can do.

Here's the >>SAVE<<

Good job, CVH. Not bad for coming out of retirement.

Next person should sell off all of Beijing's improvements and abandon the city. It's supposed to be a 5CC after all. ;) Oh yeah, and abandon Canton too. CD may wanna kill another city just to stay in practice, but then I'd suggest accepting peace. We can't expand our territory until 1900, so Chinese territory doesn't help us right now, and we're only going to end up making Abe stronger.

I would probably have passed on the saltpeter deal with Rome. We were trying to keep the two continents ignorant of each other for as long as possible to keep tech trade prices up at monopoly level. CD may wanna see if he has any other contacts to sell, as the AI will swap them all around once one of them gets contact. Actually, it probably doesn't matter that much, since they were gonna get Navigation and/or Magnetism soon enough, and would have come over pretty quick after that. Saltpeter isn't all that significant, as we're not going to have any major military expoits until it's panzer time. Don't know what the odds are that we'll have oil and rubber in our territory. (In my current solo demigod game there's only one source of rubber on the entire contient I'm on, and the Spanish -- the only other civ still alive on that continent -- has a major city parked right on top of it. )

Oh, and you couldn't make another army out of the leader because you can only have 1 army for every 4 cities you control. So no more armies for us until we 1) disband our current sword army for 100 shields (although a sword army can still take out a cav, they're going to be obsolete soon enough) and 2) we go on our killing spree/world conquest in 1900 and start adding on more cities. I suggest that we use the current leader to rush the Pentagon as soon as we get Military Tradition (someone will reasearch it soon and we can trade for it or even steal it -- I prefer stealing), and then disband the sword army the next turn to get a big start on building the Military Academy. Unless I'm wrong and you really can't do any kind of rushing of small wonders. If that's true than we can save the army to help build a factory.

Go get em, CD! :ar15:
