Sometimes I speak in fragments sorry. My mind is faster than my ability to convert to written or sometimes spoken language.

I want to use a graphic that appears to be like a stone arch or waygate or portal of some kind in place of the airfields. I have a stone arch type graphic, but I don't know where I got it. A copy-n-paste job there will solve that. Something for the later ages when Mages learn to teleport and then build platforms so troops can teleport. Like a traveling mirror or portal. I didn't mean to use the victory point file as a waygate. Just the graphic that I have is a Victory Point file and I want to copy it over the airfields. Soon as I figure out how to do transparency (Need to read mrtn's thread) I will do that and then find a graphic for the radar tower that fits D&D. Then I'll post it soyou will have it.

BTW: The hobbit hole is cute. :hmm: Maybe we can use that somehow. Have to think about it.

ok, i better understand.

hobbit hole is nice, with a bit of rework, it could be fine. as to know if we can use it, i'll let u see.

today i made another part of the map, vulcanian peninsula. For this i used http://www.dnd.starflung.com/vulcania.jpg for help (about details).

As for the rest, i'm not sure what to do with this (and all others) kind of far away area.
Later, you should instruct me on what you have developed on terra incognita areas.

For transparency, it's easy in fact. you have to adjust your color table in indexed mode, and beware of img size. that's far easier than what i imagined before.

I don't have Photoshop 6. Where can I get that?

I have been using Adobe Photoshop, but it isn't very good and verry slow.

As far as details to the terrain? That site you are using is a great place to get those details. It is pretty close to what I had mapped on my own before. If anything is slightly off from my own notes it only takes a second to change it myself and most of the detail I added wouldn't be noticed on the world map anyway. The maps of the known world area are the same I used and I didn't change them except in sinking Alphatia at the appointed time, but that can't be done in Civ3 so don't worry about that till a later scenario.

I have an idea and was wondering if anyone out there had a disagreement or agreement on this.

I was thinking of making population cost for every unit.
Settlers would cost 3 population
Workers 2
Many units would cost 1
Some units like artillery would cost none. Mercanary types and free ones (the ones from wonders) would cost none either for sure.

The units would also be given join city option to have an alternate to disbanding.

I was thinking this would show the thinning population during war time when cities mass produce military. I won't put this in if too many of you disagree with it. Any opinions out there?

If I don't do this then only settlers and workers will cost population points.

i rather agree on this. i had a kind of the same idea. in fact it depends of the time scale of the scenario. a game spanning on centuries shouldn't have too much pop cost. at the opposite, a game lasting 1 century should have high pop cost. and that could make for interesting choices between shield prod / and farm prod.

it worth trying i think

AI has a tendency of starving its cities to small towns with units that cost population points. It doesn't know how to take the population cost into account. Also, if I've understood correctly, it won't join the units to cities.

I'd stay away from it if the mod is meant to be played against AI.

I can only confirm what Drift says... AI starves itself to death and never joins cities, even if he has 10 useless settlers. AI actually prefers to disband ie. a worker in open field rather than joining city...

Ok that solves that. Once again the stupidity of the AI is going to set a boundry for me. The mod is not specifically for vs AI, but many players will only play that way. I want the AI to take as much advantage as possible to be able to keep up with us humans. Too bad. Some of the scenarios will be for short periods where every turn is a week and that would have been interesting to do. The lack of people to fill the ranks of Thyatis' military is what forced them to finally sign a treaty with Alphatia in the War of Wrath anyway. They didn't have enough people to replace their lost armies.

I've toyed with the idea to do a version for MP only. Maybe I'll set it up in that scenario only then. If I do that one.

Thanks for quick response.:)

i think u should consider changin some like Malpheggi, Hinterlands or Norwold, to use for more diversity in the (vast) savage coast area (city states are an important place, a bit like Karameikos, for instance)

U don't put Ochalea (Chinese like area) ?

OK I changed those you mentioned. Those were some I wasn't so sure about. My campaigns didn't take my players to those regions and they (and I) did little research regarding them.

Hinterlands: I won't use this civ for every scenario, but they are useful since Thyatis has never conquered their entire nation, just 1 tribe capitol. The tribe has moved it's capitol and the other 3 tribes still fight as well.

Norwald: Same as Hinterlands, it is ruled and fought over by Thyatis and Alphatia most of the time, but in my campaigns, the people rose up after the War of Wrath that broke both of those empires strength and they gained independence from the larger empires. Norwald was finally united.

Savage Baronies: I understand the importance of this region, but I'm not too particular on city-states being seperate. A corrupt style government can make it seem that the Barons fight and argue a lot. I'm not sure the real importance of the City-States other than the only source of cinnabar on Mystara.

I can't get rid of Malpheggi because I need civs for Davania. Also this civ is one of the more dangerous "evil" civs that existed in my campaigns. The remnants of the Temple of the Frog. In fact I am changing part of that past and making them ruled by a Draconian (which don't exist on Mystara as far as I know) who found himself a one-way portal from Krynn. As a general in the armies of Queen Takhisis he learned to rule with an iron fist and was dismayed to discover the reptilian races of Mystara had fallen into barbarianism. He discovers an ancient temple in Brun and takes the relics away to a more remote region. He ends up in the Malpheggi marshes near Darokin and begins enlisting the Lizardmen there. They take to the teachings of the Temple of the Frog and he soon has a strong army. He raids a nearby town in Darokin called Athenos. As he makes plans to invade further, the full strength of Darokin comes down on him and so does a surprising army of Halflings form the Five Shires. (My characters had a hand in all that.) They were not able to defend the city well, so The Draconian named Xargass commanded his army to take the ships in the harbor and flee to the ocean. They did and the few who survived found a remote region in Davania and begin to rebuild there. The frog peoples and more Lizardmen of Davania soon joined under the command of Xargass. Does this seem far fetched? It is because the Immortal Ka (who loves unique races) wants to preserve this new nation and see what will become of it. He made sure enough survived the trip and even allowed winds to speed their journey and allow them to escape Darokin's small navy.

I've been thinking of Ochalea and as far as history I'm aware of they were always under the control of Alphatia or Thyatis. Maybe in a post War of Wrath scenario (which I'm considering now) they will have freedom and be a seperate civ. If I do this scenario, I will throw them in there.

My biggest problem is that I can't pt more than 31 per scenario. I wish I could put 60 and then I would be more satisfied. Maybe Civ 4.

P.S.-I adjusted the ones you thought were different in the earlier post above. I agreed with you.

This is off topic, but I wanted to share this with everyone.

You can thank Kinboat for these glimpses at the first Gnolls in Civ3!

Well. Imho, The malpheggi swamp is not a place where you expect to find a country, at least during thyatis ruling period.

It's already difficult, sometimes, to imagine how a small leader (even if mighty) like the Black King from Denagoth can survive in an area on the nearly edge of thyatis borders. Essentially, he is not a priority, otherwise his death valley would be his tomb :-)

But if you call Malphegg a country which originate from this swamp, and is now establish somewhere else (in Davania it seems), there is no prob

It was much smaller and more insugnificant in the Malpheggi Swamp. Not all the Lizardmen followed Xargass, but those that did now live in the Eastern regions of Davania. Near the Vulture Peninsula. They are now combined with several humanoid races and and Xargass has a prisoner mage of Alphatia that supplies him with life extending magics. The empire he is building is not rivaling Thyatis, but he intends to. He calls his army the Malpheggi, to remind those who followed him and have become generals themselves, where they come from. They desperatly want to take control of Brun, which Xargass has discovered was once partly ruled by the Lizardmen. Before Blackmoor caused the Cataclysm of Mystara and reshaped the planets land masses.

I belive for reference to that is the Gazetteer for the Emrites of Ylaruam. Tombs of Lizardmen who once ruled the land are buried under the sand, under the tombs of Nithia. That is where Xargass found the artifacts, that he is only now learning to use. I may not add those into the game for purposes of making the Malpheggi too strong. Xargass discovered technology in the Temple of the Frog. Guns would make his army quite devastating in Mystara, but would cause another Cataclysm if he rebuilt the machines that Blackmoor built. The energy used to power those machines had a bad reaction to the magical atmosphere of Mystara. They could drain al the magic from Mystara and Xargass doesn't want that because he would die.

Sorry I'm rambling. Memories that got me into writing books in the first place. I mean to have Malpheggi be in Davania, not near Thyatis. As you said, anyone trying to grow an army around that Empire would be squashed or at least invaded.

EDIT: My 900th post  Do I talk that much?

Wow, those Gnolls and the terrain/city artwork is great. If I wasn't already dying to see this in action, I most certainly am now. :D

Sorry I'm a bit behind on the city-list stuff, i've been a bit too busy for my own liking these past few weeks (working non-stop for 12 days) but things are back to normal now, so I hope to get a few lists done next week.

EDIT: My 900th post  Do I talk that much?

Are you sure you want the answer to that? ;)
