Damn the Torpedos Playstyle

Tsk tsk. You obviously haven't read Earth God, the most authoritative author on tactical philosophy in Civ4.

And I better add a smiley here in case you get offended when I actually mean well, one tactic I learned from that invaluable thread. So, here's a smiley :)

I'm curious if other players play this game the way I do, which is:

1. I never give techs away.... ever! (Hey you have scientists?)

2. I don't join wars unless I want to. (You're "cautious" with me and I'm going to join your war?? And if I do you make peace? Where are my free techs for joining??)

3. I declare religions whenever I feel like it. (Stupid, but fun sometimes.)

4. I love any trick I can pull on the AI e.g. conquering cities with settled GP, conquering wonder cities, stealing cities early, stealing workers, killing scouts in the early game, beating the AI to wonders, etc.

5. I never settle generals as I love creating "uber" units.

Needless to say I'm at war mostly. But frankly my dear.... that's the way I want it.

PS. I kind of struggle on Noble. But it's fun.
I believe this strategy is more aptly known as the "Play like Tokugawa" strategy. ;)
:lol:Thats a good one :D

And aelf, always remember the Saint Equation: 1tactic+1=1 etc. :crazyeye::spear:

Hahahah, aelf you're so mean. :)

Playing a game the way you want to play without being constrained by considerations of the AI's reaction is certainly a strategy and one that would probably be quite fun. At low levels its even a viable strategy. Some people may well enjoy playing low level games any darned way they please, other people (probably the majority) are more considered in their approach as they try to win on increasingly difficult levels.

Metastrategy conceit: is strategy the way you play or the way you win?

Let's say I choose technologies to give away. You ask for...Liberalism? Metal Casting? Music? Ok, yours!
You ask for Rifling? Assembly Line? Industrialism? Hell NO! And the fact that you are 5x more powerful than me makes this even less viable. You could try and crush me even with an obsolete army, and I should help you modernize it? No, thanks.
