Actually in my game just one AI - arabia - had coal, and I had just denounced him to get the favor of the other AIs, so his 2 coal was not going my way. The other AIs must have spam built factories, because I didn't see a single coal for sale the rest of the game, and no CSs had coal. Never had any such problems getting coal before, but I guess that just adds to the "fun" of this map. I managed to finish the game without a single factory

Yea no coal here either and never got around to building factories. Funny that Austria went CS crazy in everbody's games. I've never seen her buy so many CSes like that before. Usually see 1-2 maybe 3-4 and sometimes none.

The only AI that had coal was Arabia and it had only 1 ...

Only solution would have been through city states, not sure why I didn't try to get it right away before these city states were getting absorbed. Probably told myself I could buy it from an AI at some point, but it never happened.

Even Austria with its mega Empire at the end had no coal to spare (but had like 30 oil, aluminium etc).

Here is the screenie. I think I would have got the Science Victory if I had factories since I'm not that far when I get the Diplo one.
