Deity Challenge 6 - Polynesia, Archipelago

Spoiler :
Cleared up my island without too much trouble with galleases.

Right when i finished doing that Mongolia DoW'ed me, and even though i wanted to go after Napoleon (who was becoming a swift runaway) i had to sail towards Karakorum. Upgraded to Frigates after liberating Singapore.

Killing Genghis wasn't hard, he had few galleases and a whole lot of Cats. Kept two of his cities.

Straight after that Alex DoW's me , ok, postponing France again... There i had an extensive battle on water and on land, took me about 30 turns to get two of his cities. After that i signed favorable peace deal, upgraded to Batleships (around t.200) and DoW'ed Attila.

Meanwhile, second army was slowly assembled - 7 Frigates, 2 Privateers. In the process Rome DoW'ed me. I trained units for a bit, while finishing 2nd army and then sailed to his little island and claimed two cities on it. Put that army on hold for a while.

I saw that if i don't act quick, i'll have to build a bunch of nukes to cut through Napoleon (since he had 20 something cities already).

So, army number one Sailed towards London. I took it and instantly lost to a bunch of english ironclads. In the process, both my lancers got killed, so i had to wait another 10 turns for a landship to cross ocean. That delay nearly cost me a game.

In the end, two fleets were synchronized to take Paris and Moscow on the same turn. I underestimated how many bombers, submarines and whatnot Napoleon has.. But, luckily, 8 Battleships, 4 submarines, a G.W. Bomber, AA gun and 3 destroyers were enough to take Paris in 2 turns.

I lost 90% of my second fleet during these two turns.

Russia was just easy to take though.

Game wasn't too hard, even though i had to divert from science for a bit to kill early Roman invaders. Also, i really enjoyed playing as Kamehameha. His 'small' bonuses are quite big actually.

Yea I have to say Wayfinding is HUGE. Ruins gave pottery, two free archers, 20 culture, 100g, 60 faith, two citizens and I'm sure a few other things that I'm forgetting. Meeting city states and civs easily netted about 200-300g and around 20 faith. Plus, it lets you scout out the best possible places to settle as well as the proximity of other civs so you know how to tech.

Definitely one of, if not the, best civ on a water map. Although I have to say I didn't get much use out of Moari Warriors or Moai. Still a lot of fun, since exploring is the best part of civ :)

Turn 210 Domination victory.

Hmm at this map. Never been able to build so many wonders in diety before.

OK, I had a 286 turn Domination victory.. I took out France as my third, and it cost me a ton of time and units. I should have taken him out earlier as he was runawayish.. and he had soooo much oil!

Even after I had taken out his capital + a 22 pop city he was in top 3 score list for the rest of the game.
The other civs went down easier to battleships.. I did note that Napoleon had a massive bomber army when I took out the last capital (The huns)

Well done Old Peter with the 210 turn Victory!.

I only had time to play til turn 40.

Too many good city spots, but I will resist the temptation and possibly traps

I went tradition and I will only settle one city and finish the NC
Spoiler :
to claim the faith natural wonder which i took the patheon from ruin faith

I will settle another 2 city spots when irons are discovered. This way I will not attract too much attention and beeline navigation

Yeah, that economic advantage she has is insane. But i wanted to try Kammy, because i never played with him. :)

I was thinking as an opponent, since you were stacking the deck.

T101 - Progress so far:

I took tradition in combination with a very aggressive settling approach.
Started with scout - monument - settler - settler and took the two spots with natural wonders that are close by (Mount Sinai to the east and Gibraltar to the north).

Obviously, I took the One with nature pantheon for +4 faith for my natural wonders. I founded the second religion and enhanced first. Due to my mediocre happiness situation (and due the fact that I will go for a domination victory) I picked solely happiness beliefs (+1 :c5happy: for each shrine, +2 :c5happy: for each temple and +1 :c5happy: for each city with my religion).

I was also able to build the Hanging gardens around turn 65 and even Temple of
Artemis at turn 85(!). World wonders were generally build late in my game so far.

Genghis Khan didn't like that I settled his island, so we are at war since turn 50 or so. He did a very poor job in that war, since this army didn't take my city:

In fact, they were just camping near my city, doing abolutely nothing but waiting to be killed by me

I'm currently building an army and fleet to kill Mongolia (and the rest of the world)

I'm gonna try this one soon. I like water maps and been a while that i played one in sp mode(especially deity).

With a good start(and iron!) a player can destroy every civs in less than 160 turns.

Pure military civs actually tend to be worse competition in my experience because they don't build wonders, and don't focus on expansion/science like they should.

Of the AI, Attila, and Genghis are likely going to do rather poorly in this type of game (my guess anyway).

edit: so long they have reasonal large land mass for them to expand. should be ok.

I skipped challenges 3-5 for now. This map seemed fun to try since I've never played Polynesia or Archipelago. The starting location was awesome with all the Salt and Marble.

Spoiler :
Played about 70 turns and everything's been so smooth. Settled three cities total, stayed on my island and got NC up very early by rush buying libraries. Hardbuilt one settler in cap. I've two maritime allies and the cap is size 11 already, nice :) Got religion with the help of nearby NW and took happiness beliefs.

Beelining to Compass and I can start buying/building Galleases soon and start killing AI. The cap will build one Galleass in 3 turns :) No early DoWs (didn't steal CS worker because didn't want to piss off AI too soon so I can concentrate getting to Compass asap). Mongolia is wandering around "my area" with around 8 units and a settler. He's Friendly but I'm expecting (and hoping) for a DoW from him soon so I don't have to take a diplo penalty by attacking him.

Rome and France are coveting my lands so I guess they are next in line to DoW me after Mongols but I really want to take England out before SotLs appear. Rome has built a bunch of wonders, including Great Lighthouse though and is settling close to me so he might be worth of DoWing soon. Btw absolutely no chance on Great Lib (gone T26) or Petra (went around T 50).

I don't know about military civs not expanding.. they plop cities on every little free spot if they can get away with it =P

But one thing about the guys on this map.. since they are all warmonger types you can get away with a ton of warmongering without any of them having an issue with that (except the one you attack) I found that to be a factor that made it a bit easier.

I hadn't thought about that. In challenge #2 everyone hated me (except Russia) after I beat up Pacal and got very poor trade offers with most of them. It'll definitely help if you can get more than 109g for a lux after some warmongering.

About some civs plopping cities anywhere they can, even middle of ice with no resources...I wish there wouldn't be unlimited happiness for AI in Deity, if it would make the AI consider the city locations more carefully.

jeespoks - dont fear the SoTL, use privateers to capture them.

Yes, they're really nice units to capture but I fear Elisabeth will build a ton of them and a huge fleet of SotLs is something I don't want to deal with, it'll get messy :)

But you're right: even though AI combat seems to have improved a bit with the updates, it still fights horribly on water.

I bribe Catherine to war against Elizabeth who hated me for no reason. I also bribed Napolean to war aganst Caesar. Attila DoWed Alexander many times. And Khan is my best friend.

after NC tech path is
Iron working-Theology-Compass- Education-Astronomy-Navugation

built Oracle but failed HS. bought university so the first GS is quickly born with Oracle's great scientist point to bulb navigation.

Turn 140+ situation:

Captured Rome and London. All CSs are friends. Napolean has triple military but I suspect all are land units. I settled 6 irons but I also bought all irons in the market to maintain naval domination.

I am at 172. I own Paris and Rome. Some of my Frigates have ranges and extended sight so they cannot be hit. Nappy still calls for MY unconditional surrender. I am worried about Russia and the AI getting to flight long before I do.

I will go to public school and then find where oils are.

First strike on the city that has oil deposit.

Napolean in my game has got industrialization but I think he is going to his next UU tech not flight. These will be perfect meat shields for my frigates later.
