Democratic Succesion Game

Just to clarify, is this the current discussion on where to settle?

city_sites.jpg

We could also adjust the choke city into two cities. One just south of the gold, which would grab the gold and food tile and the second city so that it grabs both the cow and clams. I'm hesitant about both sites, but it looks like we're going to get squeezed fairly quickly in regards to land soon.

I agree on grabbing the choke point with our first settler (the current one in the queue). We need to stop his expansion quick. A protective civ isn't one I'm really wanting to deal with. One note, if we have horses we may want to consider doing an early rush before he can build up his defenses.

We need that gold for sure. I can almost guarentee that Qin will fight you for it too. The only thing that makes Qin not the worst neighbor to have is that he respects your strength...i.e. he isn't crazy like Monty or Shaka.

FYI, first settler pops in 5 turns.

Good thing AH is done in 4 :D

Maybe DS could play up until AH is done and than post a screenie of where the horses are?

I agree, and coincidentally, AH will be discovered 1 turn prior to Settler completion.

I also think that the two city approach, depending on what the Warrior finds to the NNW may also be the best way to secure additional land between us.

I also love the idea of a chariot rush.

I know...wish there was a civ with a UU that was like an axeman but with a movement of two, lol.

Agreed,

I'm inclined to take the choke city first, and backfill later, we can't afford to lose more land.

I also agree, but give him an additional 5 turns, as is customary so far to play 10 turns.

Of course. I was merely asking if he could take a pause and post a screenshot before completing his turnset. I apologize if I didn't make that clear.

2680 - Start a mine.

2600 - Fortify warrior in Delhi

2560 - AH done, parked research on writing. Found copper and horses.

2520 - Warrior defends vs wolf. Settler done, start warrior. Qin adopts slavery.

Paused for discussion, settler unmoved.

Horses location

Copper location

My experience of BTS says that if copper is that far away, there is most of the time, a iron nearby the capital.

I've experienced this also.

I would recommend a city on the copper resource in this scenario, then another city on the plains forest 1W from the mountain, which chokes off the continent and gives us allot of production potential up there also. It's a gamble, but it should really pay off for us.

2E 1N of the copper will take Copper, Cows and Gold, and it's an excellent chokepoint. We will need to get some fogbusters too, to avoid barbarians showing up.

Did you mean 2E1N of the copper? Anything east of the gold will miss the copper entirely. The spot I was looking at was 2N of the gold, which takes all 3 and forms a choke on expansion. Yep, that matches up if you meant the copper. :)

Then 2 more city locations suggest themselves, one to the west of the copper and one between the clams and horses. The coastal desert is suggested by the blue circle, it makes use of an otherwise unusable tile and gets the horses.

How best to get the border pop? Thinking about researching archery, writing, build a warrior or even barracks until archery, then an archer and library. Or use a monument which is cheaper?

Just curious, but why archery?
Mostly paranoia. It will be a long time before we have anything better than warriors. But it's probably one of the reasons my qscores aren't all that good. :crazyeye:

2520 continued -- settler & warrior start for the new site. warrior due in 3. research set to writing

2440 IBT, warrior defeats wolf. promo to woods I. Chop completes

2400 Warrior completes, start worker. start road towards new city site

2360 Elephants sighted to the NW

2320 Bombay founded, starts monument. Still don't have Qin's borders

Got it.

I'd prefer Bombay work the grass forested hill for the additional :hammers:. The faster we get the border popped the faster we can grab those :food: resources and speed up growth. That should shave off another five turns.

That ivory looks good too!

BTW, how many turns are we playing each? Ten?

Agree with working the forested hill (or plains forest). This is one of those cities that really needs a border pop.

10 each.

I'll have a look at our save, to see how our economy took this far away city.
