You play GTA SA too?

SA was easily the best GTA game of all time. Rockstar's new "serious business" thing they inaugurated with GTA IV pisses me off. SA, on the other hand, was one of the pinnacles of video gaming.

Hey! I liked IV! The story was very well done IMO, and kept me engaged for quite a bit.

The sandbox was somewhat lacking due to the realistic aspect, but the story made up for that.

The story was stupid, unnecessarily constricting, and permitted choice in meaningless ways. I didn't actually care about any of the characters and thought most, if not all, of them were douchebags; the only one I kinda liked was Michelle, because even her betrayal (lolspoilers) was nuanced and she was endearingly awkward early on.

Plus, there was none of the funny that SA, Vice City, and III had in spades. There was none of the connection to a specific culture: Niko himself obviously wants to be some variety of "American", not Bosnian, but the identity crisis aspect makes it impossible to connect with anything at all, whereas, say, CJ came with a big old "HEY THIS IS BASICALLY NWA AND PAC" sign, and West Coast rap permeated the story and the setting.

Well, I enjoyed the story. I don't have any longer an explanation to back it up, so I'll leave it at that :)

Also, I will admit that I never played San Andreas long enough to actually get into the story. Most of the time I spent in that game was dicking around, which is something that I do miss from IV.

Completely agree, though I will give GTA4 a bit of credit in that the city itself was wonderfully realised. It just lacked some of the fun of the earlier series. Hell, I put Vice City as my favourite simply because of the brilliance of the radio shows.

Spoiler desktop :

Got my two monitors setup back, which is lovely, so new desktops. I've shown the first one before though. Just need to work on affording that third monitor, so I can have more space filled with blackness.
