Zerver will very likely join our team officially as a unit artist within a few days. The terms of his workload and other business is still in discussion, but...

'Ram' promotion? For melee units - decreases City Defenses by 5% or such after attacking (even if dead), requires City Raider I or II. Or a Ram melee unit, 2 :strength:, decreases city defenses by 5% after attacking.
 
^we will have a "special" promotion only for melee and cavalry units. but we won't say anything more. :D
 
More UU ideas:

Generic melee unit: Starts with City Garrison I, ideal for Maccabee fx

Generic 'Barbarian civ' unit: +X% strength when attacking from Forest. Inspiration is from ancient Germanian warfare, where a German Forest-based surprise attack could at least hinder the Romans.

Steppe Rider: Double Movement in Desert (or maybe Plains too) instead. Maybe it's crappy and very situational, but that's what we have the Gallic Warrior for, innit?
 
^thanks. we have ideas like this for the unique mercenaries you can hire, but we're implementing that much later.

so, yes, it is possible you can run down enemies with hordes of Steppe Nomads, Arbalests, and Eagle Warriors while you're playing as Canada.
