Its an old saying: Rather Die as a freeman than live as a slave. But what would you rather choose? If there was a hope of liberation (soon), I would live as a slave, but if not, I'd rather die than lose my freedom. So if some Nazi came into my house and I knew I was going to be a slave at some labor camp. I would rather just die right there.

POW's have hope for freedom. Your poll did not specify whether or not one could emerge from slavery at some future date; thus I felt it was not an option.
Obviously, if life as a slave could lead to a life of freedom, the tune would be different.

If I'm alive, I can plan, grow a rebellion, become a leader and free everyone, including of course myself. No matter how small it is, there's a much bigger chance to do this if I'm a slave than the chance of doing it after I die. And life does not "end" when you are not free anymore. Nothing that was done can't be undone.

I don't think the POW's you speak of in this case were easy to take. In any case, most slaves actually weren't sacrificed, so there is that.

i think thats kind of a cop-out. The question should have 2 options;
1) Die honourably, defiantly and with your integrity intact.
2) Live the rest of your life as a slave, but live.

Oddly enough, that article has only one source which is an invalid link. Sorry but i dont beileve that thats the majority of slaves cases.
Give me another link. The aztecs beileved that ritual sacrifice was necessary for the contiuation of human life. And it made perfect sense to use slaves or POW's as the sacrifices rather then your citizens

In all seriousness, history has always been about master-slave relations with varying amounts of generosity from the master. Long ago, people became slaves by force of the pointy stick. Nowadays people become slaves for a few hours a day by force of the shiny flat metal thing.
Thus, I shall always live as a slave. If I were to become a free master, I'd just get assassinated and die.

doing backbreaking labor from sunup till sundown is a fate worse than death. Unless i can get myself a cushy job sitting on my butt all day with minimal work I think i'd prefer death
