My father pumped diesel fuel into my Mustang by mistake, which takes only unleaded gas. What to do now? Do I need the service of a merchanic?

Has it actually burned some of the diesel? You can easily siphon out the rest of the tank, but I'm not sure what diesel will due to a regular ICE, could just make it sooty inside. If it has been running with diesel then the internals probably need a good scrubdown.

The gas station right around the corner from my house, so I guess it hasn't been running for any extensive amount of time with diesel, maybe 1 mile tops.
Now, how do I drain the diesel? Where do I put the diesel after I drain it?

If it hasn't been running that long then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. At most your spark plug will be dirty and you might have to clean it. As for siphoning get a big rubber pipe that is long enough to reach the ground when the pipe is stuck to the bottom and a couple of those large PVC buckets. Stick the rubber pipe into the tank until it reaches the bottom then suck on the pipe until diesel starts coming out. SPIT BUT DO NOT SWALLOW!!! DIESEL GAS IS POISONOUS!!! If you feel uncomfortable sucking on the pipe, find some other method of suction. Once the diesel is flowing, gravity and fluid dynamics will take control and empty the entire tank into those buckets. Then just fill up gas containers with the diesel and store.

For some reason I feel dirty after writing that tutorial.:mischief:

You need the get every last ounce of diesel out of that car.

Sucking it out will not accomplish that.

The diesel will destroy your injectors and any rubber seals (especially the two o-rings) on the injectors.

It will also foul your fuel pump and filter. You need to take the tank down and have it flushed out.

Take it to a mechanic, and hand your father the bill.
