Diplomacy

I've been lurking, so if it's cool with everyone I'll take over England.

%&*% I was late. Won't happen again.

I see no reason not to let BL join, welcome.

Sucks that we have had so many no shows already, but I hope we don't abandon ship... I'm fine with BL joining if thats ok with everyone else.

Hey, when's the due date for building new units for someone who has more supply centers now?

The number of builds is listed with the orders.

A date would be nice though...

Also, I'm fine with BL taking over England.

Yeah, I know that, I'm wondering what the due date is. We're currently in the Winter Phase, in which we build or disband units. :p

I'd say we should probably make it one or two days.

From my last post:

The next due date will be determined once we've found a replacement for Lord Iggy and decided if we want to proceed with this game. It will definitely be after the 14th as requested by Camikaze who will be away.

Looks like we've found our replacement already, welcome Backwards Logic. I'm also going to assume that those who have already commented want to continue with this game as they haven't said they want to start from scratch. I'm fine with this, just thought I'd make the option available as so many NMRs this early severely reduce the quality of the game.

With this in mind I will make the next due date the 16th as per Camikaze's request since he will be away. I know this is a long time for a Winter order, however, I want to be fair to Camikaze. Following that I will try a four-day schedule as previously suggested for Spring/Fall moves and a one-day schedule for the build/retreat phases.

How come England used recommended moves in spring but now both England and Germany held this turn? England making those moves last turn and then holding this turn is terribly unfair, as the moves were mainly set up to have England grab a couple neutral supply centres.

But now England has taken no supply centers, so with no new supply centres, they have no new production, so they put themselves in a vulnerable position to me and Germany.

I obviously have no problem with this, but it seems way too advantageous for me. If you guys want England and Germany's moves handled with another solution other than holds, I wouldn't have any problems.

Indeed, that is what I mean by the game's quality has been severely reduced. England was given moves in the first round suggested by an impartial observer. I don't know if we want to go down that road again, though the main person affected by this is France and they have expressed an interest in keeping it fair by giving moves to those who have NMR'd. If no one else cares I wouldn't be against giving them moves again if Triskelli wants to come up with some logical moves (being the impartial party here). I really don't want this to be the solution for every NMR though. NMRs just have the most impact in the early game.

If no one objects in 24 hours than we will go with moves that Triskelli comes up with (if he's willing - don't want to assume here).

I'm fine with the build orders being due in the next day or so, and then having Spring '02 delayed until about the 16th.

On one hand, it's really bad for the ones who NMR to do so, especially in the early game, as that can really hurt them later on.

On the other hand, it's also unfair for the people who do send in orders that the people who don't get moves anyway. While being impartial makes Triskelli unlikely to favor someone over anyone else, he also doesn't know what's going on behind the scenes, and he also gets the benefit of being able to send moves after he already knows what everyone else's moves are.

In my opinion, maybe Germany should get some moves, to reduce the advantage this has given to Bowsling and, to a lesser extent, me and Austria. England I'm less sure about; they've already gotten one move when they NMR'ed, I'm not sure we should give them another one.

That being said, England not moving is a huge advantage for me in the North. I'd like to hear some more opinions on this matter.

Hmm.. Well, I'll suggest some moves for England and Germany, based on average moves for the two powers.

England:
A Yor - Bel *FAILED*
F NTH CONVOY Yor - Bel
F NOR - Nor

Germany
A Mun - Ruh
A Kiel - Hol
F Den Holds.

That means that Germany gets two builds, and England gets one, whereas France loses a unit. These are extremely common moves from these two powers, and are my best guess based on the political situation. Germany moves to Ruhr to decide who gets Belgium, or to try and take it himself this coming turn.

People, let's try and keep it together, huh? =]

No blackmail over Sweden? :p

Indeed, everything you say here is true and why I don't know how to proceed here. NMRs in the first turns are brutal because the neutral SCs can be very important to the outcome of the game.

You're correct in that England has already been given a free move after an NMR and perhaps it isn't fair to deny them another. Now we have a new player for England, however, and it would be best if the game remained competitive. I don't know what to do here which is why I asked what the rest of you thought :)

The recommended moves from Triskelli sound okay to me by the way if we do decide to go that route.

I'm open to whatever. I'm fine with no moves or the proposed move.

I'm sorry, but that does not sound acceptable to me. I had already negotiated the low countries with Germany and England, and I had based my plans on those negotiations. While I can accept having my plans disrupted by betrayal, it should be done by the actual English player.

The suggested moves do not need to be anything significant. They just need to be the obvious moves (like A Kie-Net, which, if not executed, gives me a chance to stop Germany from acquiring the SC without English support). If the player wants anything specific done on that turn, than they should send in their orders on time.

Unfortunately, Iggy hadn't sent in those moves. However, I do agree that if moves had been negotiated, then those moves should be followed, at least for this first turn. I hate to mention this, but Choxorn requested that I not bounce him in Sweden, and I changed the moves when he backed it up with a post from Stuck in Pi. Matthew, should we change England's orders for this turn as well?
