good point ~ what SHOULD we use that GE for??
i'm going to hold off on playing (but not too long) to try and get some consensus here ~ perhaps TGL, and then Colossus for some GM points in that city ~ use the fishies to run some merchants later on as well, make a nice GM haven out of it.

Seeing as I have no BTS (and damned, just when I thought I am gong to get it tomorrow, the website shifted the shipping date yet again to 30 Aug!!!

Why OceanNavel? I see at least 5 hills in OceanNavel. With 3 seafoods and a source of pholky-deer, it will be able to mine all of them. i.e. it is a production site, not a commerce/GP/science site. It can also build wonders on its own if need be (so don't need to waste GE).
TGL should be built somewhere else, a science site ... wait a minute ... TGL = Library or Lighthouse?
if Lighthouse, maybe ... seeing we might lose it if we delay until OceanNavel's production capability is fully exploited.

Seriously, I wouldn't plan so much ahead as to the great library.
Only coastal wonders we can't get in the capital by overflow technique, so the TGL is an option or we can delay it till colossus but the the former has my prerference.

Well, I guess it'd depends. Is there another coastal city in our future anytime soon? And are there any other wonder we really want aside from what's available now?
BTW, I don't think we should build more cities until our economy is more stabelized, we're already running a pretty high deficit in the early BC with 3 cities and a capital

Well, that doesn't help much.
But since berserks thinks we can't expand much more in hte near future, I say we use the coastal city we have, not the one we wish to have at a later date
Navel only as four hills that are in the BFC, and we'll have overflow from all the food there even working them all. I say put the Lighthouse there, and later Colossus, and use the city for Merchants and gold.
I also think we should start whipping out any wonders we wanted at the capital since we can't keep producing workers/settlers forever for overflow.

Navel does have 5 hills and a plains horsie. So that also counts as a sixth production tile with 4 hammers. It's got a fishies, a clam, a crab, and a deer, so enough food I'd say.

I started off by taking a good around, as this is the first time i've gotten a hold of the save. I hired 3 artists @ Fuschia Town, not worrying about polluting the pool there ~ it's such a mish-mash anyway. I also slowed down growth at Harbor Village and have it work some of the regular grass cottages. And it's building a Barracks with next to no production I let it finish since we only had 2 turns left on it. Finally, i adjusted the slider, and see that we're losting 3 gpt @ 60%.
Oooo, and I notice we're the Celts, too ~ perhaps this is the extreme handicap that Imhotep gave us to compensate for the capital.

I whipped the libraries at both HV and Fuschia (except, foolishly, I didn't realize it was the first turn at Fuschia for the Library
) ~ on another note, we've got 170 food available at Fuschia; we could probably whip almost any wonder along the way.

Next turn, Charlemagne, er...Gorosei wanted Open Borders now that we had writing. I accepted, and when I pressed enter, in 1920, ABCs came in, and we traded techs with him: Archery for Masonry. I also decided on Metal Casting for Forges and the Colossus.
1840, Calippus (Great Spy) was born.
As Fuschia's only producing 4 epts, I think merging him for 12 epts is better than Scotland Yards +50% for now.

I chose Aesthetics next if we want to go for the Great Library. I also hired 2 scientists at HV, and notice that we CAN'T BUILD THE GREAT LIGHTHOUSE at Ocean's Navel. It's not built yet, and we have all the requirements . . . i wonder if that coast to our west is just coast, and not open sea ~ would that make a difference??
AFter my 15, we're at 40% sci, +1 gpt, but we're still doing great on tech progress (I *think*, this normal speed throws me off).

I don't know about you, but i was starting to get a bit wonder-happy. IIRC, we've got win by conquest and domination, so I think we should get started on the smashy-smashy in the not-too-distant future
I'm not sure, but I don't think i've ever won militarily on Normal speed. However, it strikes me that WE should strike soon!!
Oh, and, can anyone figure out WHY we can't build the TGL?? Im, am I right in my hypothesis? Surely you could let us know this?!?
in either case, we should figure out what to do with the two great people (maybe save the GE for the TGLib?), and decide on the near-future's tech path. Personally, I think construction, and then back to the bottom of the tree for more military techs is the way to go.

- First, there is no great lighthouse. I would just settle that great engineer. But where ? capital for more base hammers ? Ocean'navel or gold city ?

- War ? Do you want to start a pre-cat war ? We need boats anyway to visit Sengoku and he's bit far. I think we need to settle a city in the southwest before attacking him, so we could station units. I'm in favor of waiting for cats and consolidate more (stealing all wonders), but if you want war, a dozen swords you'll get.
- Techs : construction seems fine, if we want that war quick.

If you take a look at the cottages in Harbor Village you'll notice that a cottage grassland actually gives you a loaf of bread instead of the usual 2. That's why I had them building cottages instead of farming it.

I start by settling the great spy in the capital like discussed and change weights setting Gorosei at 3 and Sengoku at 1. Since we're going to attack the latter, better not to spend too many EPs on him. We could use EPs for revolting one city or just sabotaging a strategic resource if need be.
I change the capital and HV from research to forges. Well, that was the plan but I figured the forge would be quicker with some overflow and queued a worker before. Forge goes down from 6 to 3 turns (including 2 for a worker)
On first turn, Aesthetics are done unlocking three wonders. Who was talking about wonderhippies ?
But to my dismay, we can't build a single one out of those three. WTH ? Oh, each one has another prerequisite tech. F4 tells me I can't rely on those lousy government agents to get them (yeah I know keyboard can't talk, but Ralph ain't the only one allowed to take devil fruits)
Sengoku asks for open borders and I gave him. I'm planning to send a boat over there anyway. It allow for some trade routes income too. Speaking of boats, Ocean's Navel is busy building a library not whippable yet. I keep it since the city needs the culture to expand
The great engineer is settled in ShellTown. The representation bonus is coming handy with all the settled guys.
After Aesthetics, I beelined construction. So we got mathematics first allowing our chops to harvest more hammers. We even got a little boost towards construction (Not my fault there's nothing in the treasury, Luffy used it all on food and Sake)
Fushia Town gave birth to yet another artist, though I've been firing artists (and governor recruiting them again) all turns
Construction done, I picked currency. Some markets would help us increase the science slider and expand more.
Once Ocean's Navel could whip the library I did it and whipped a trireme two turns later. The city still lacked a granary but I needed to get some recon done before sending our army down there. The granary was ordered after the trireme.
I thought I should mention that Gorosei and Sengoku don't know each other. Since we've been able to trade with Sengoku, they may know some other civs elsewhere. Well, they wouldn't spit mysticism so I researched it myself followed by polytheism.
We reached the 50 million souls mark. Isn't this what you would get when you are close to domination victory ?
With the amount of EP invested towards Gorosei, we could see what he was researching. He discovered bronzeworking around 1200 BC . He must had an awful start.
With polytheism done and an acqueduct finished in the capital, I shuld have plenty of wonders to choose from right ? RIGHT ?
Okay, I have nothing against Pholkero theory of closed seas but I'm suspecting the chief pirate did some worldbuilder manipulations (read wonder boosted civs). I think I didn't mention that this game started in 3960 BC
Anyway, I didn't bother about stonehenge and it was built somwhere in the world a few turns later. On the research front, I headed for COL. I didn't go literature figuring that the great library is out too (we have time to check anyway)
I didn't revolt to caste system because whipping is our friend. I gave poly to Sengoku for Meditation.
I also oredred a settler to found a new city near Sengoku. We can call it Navy Gate. We need a second costal city and I think this one would do. Another one at the clam/iron estern coast would be nice too but we should see how we get out of this war first.
We already have a nice army (6 gallic swords already) but still no boats. One is nearly finished in Navel's Ocean, another one should be whipped/chopped. With two galleys, we should be able to start the war. Just ferry four defensive units and send the rest after them. The trireme would defend in case the navy actually has some warships. I don't think we'll find much of a fight
One last thing
No religions for us it seems. We are researching civil service, kinda of huge when you got a capital like ours. After that, I think our best course is optics. We're pirates, and I think it would be useful to discover what other surprises Imhotep has set for us. I was going to say it is about time rather than useful but remembered it's 1000 BC Believe me, it is not an illusion from playing normal speed, our research rate IS insane.
I set the capital at emphasize everything to forbid the governor from hiring any more artists. Do with it what seems right to you. (I found some units on goto orders and one city at avoid growth setting which I saw way too late )

Hm...I begin to feel that I should have made this game Deity level. I never thought that Fuschia Town would have such an impact. Anyway, we'll see what comes. Still this might enter the history of DM and CFC for the easiest Emperor game ever .
